xxJohnxx Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Hi, I installed a new ASUS GTX 780 to my existing ASUS GTX 780. They are running in SLI. Now i started getting crashes. I had similar crashes before, which I could fix by repairing DCS. However, this time this didn't fix anything. So I need your help guys. What would point to that problem: # -------------- 20131205-213954 -------------- # C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at E8277787 00:00000000 00000000 00000000 0000:00000000 E8277787 001BE210 0000:00000000 EB1A5FB8 001BE250 0000:00000000 Direct3DCreate9Ex()+3B58 EB1A5E98 001BE290 0000:00000000 Direct3DCreate9Ex()+3A38 ED294781 001BE2E0 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+1788D ED294BAC 001BE340 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+17CB8 ED294C82 001BE380 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+17D8E ED295BF8 001BE5C0 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+18D04 ED294CA7 001BE600 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+17DB3 ED294612 001BE630 0000:00000000 D3DXCreateEffectEx()+1771E EB3BA254 001BE800 0000:00000000 ?draw@DXEffect@Graphics@@QEAA_NHW4PRIMTYPE_ENUM@render@@HHHH@Z()+614 EA21C89B 001BEB00 0000:00000000 ?GetLoadPriority@NGModelLods@model@@UEAAMXZ()+4D1B EA21DE0E 001BECD0 0000:00000000 ?GetLoadPriority@NGModelLods@model@@UEAAMXZ()+628E EB3CCD51 001BED00 0000:00000000 ?DrawNormalLights@DXRenderer@Graphics@@AEAAXPEAPEAVRenderObject@2@H@Z()+A1 EB3CFA4D 001BED40 0000:00000000 ?DrawObjects@DXRenderer@Graphics@@UEAAXPEAPEAVRenderObject@2@I@Z()+16D EDBCE658 001BED90 0000:00000000 ?DrawZWrited@RenderParserImpl@@QEAAXXZ()+1F8 EDBDF664 001BF090 0000:00000000 ?RenderScene@SceneManager_Implement@@QEAAXPEAVsmCamera@@_N@Z()+364 EDBE1E1E 001BF3C0 0000:00000000 ?RenderMain@SceneManager_Implement@@UEAAXAEBVdPosition@@W4vCameraType_e@@AEBUViewport@smSceneManager@@PEAVContext@Graphics@@@Z()+4FE EDBE307C 001BF5A0 0000:00000000 ?Render@SceneManager_Implement@@UEAAXXZ()+65C 4015811B 001BF630 0000:00000000 4015A9CD 001BF690 0000:00000000 40170D24 001BF6C0 0000:00000000 40170BFB 001BF6F0 0000:00000000 402053F8 001BF760 0000:00000000 402069F9 001BFD60 0000:00000000 4020965B 001BFE10 0000:00000000 77B2652D 001BFE40 0001:0001552D C:\Windows\system32\kernel32.dll BaseThreadInitThunk()+D 77C5C541 001BFE90 0001:0002B541 C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll RtlUserThreadStart()+21 It seems to point towards Direct X, however I am not sure what to do about it. xxJohnxx Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 Hi, Please let me know any information to fix this problem Will do! will DCS Run if you disable SLi? Good idea. No clue why I forgot to check that. Will report back tomorrow. Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
xxJohnxx Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Well, it seems to run with SLI completly disabled. It will crash when it is in "singe GPU" mode when SLI is enabled. SkateZilla Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Check other games, could be a bad SLI Connection or Driver setting. xxJohnxx Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Check other games, could be a bad SLI Connection or Driver setting. I played some hours in World of Tanks since then. Worked fine, altough it isn't a really system demanding game. Drivers should be up to date. Did a fresh install after building in the second 780. An hour ago I got another crash while playing DCS computer completely frooze and only resetting it helped. Also tried to update the BIOS. Now it isn't even starting even more. But that's another problem. Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
ENO Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) I'd have sworn an upgrade like that would require a repair and / or reinstall. I know some config information is kept in the saved games DCS folder as well. I would start with a repair, then a saved game DCS folder (delete / rename), then a reinstall- with SLI turned on. DCS has proven to be somewhat finicky to hardware changes... so before I got too worked up those are the 3 things I woul do in that order. In addition, there are some configurations that work / don't work that include the use of windowed mode... might be worth looking into how yours is set up. If it's in non-windowed mode now... try windowed mode. I know it sounds sort of random- but at least if you can narrow down what part isn't working properly, you can work towards a solution. Have you taken any of your PCI voltage away from stock settings? With two 780s working for a living, you might need to revisit the setting if it is off "auto." ENO Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Well, it seems to run with SLI completly disabled. It will crash when it is in "singe GPU" mode when SLI is enabled. Single GPU in SLI mode? I can see why that wouldn't work- or am I missing something? I just re-read and saw you've tried a repair already... the repair isn't going to cause adjustments to your DCS folder in saved games, so I'm still going to suggest you go rename that and let the game recreate it. Flashing your BIOS- unless it wasn't up to date enough to run SLI- might have been overkill. Hopefully you didn't brick your system by flashing improperly! xxJohnxx Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Hi, I'd have sworn an upgrade like that would require a repair and / or reinstall. I know some config information is kept in the saved games DCS folder as well. I would start with a repair, then a saved game DCS folder (delete / rename), then a reinstall- with SLI turned on. Did all of the above. Unfortunatly it didn't help. In addition, there are some configurations that work / don't work that include the use of windowed mode... might be worth looking into how yours is set up. If it's in non-windowed mode now... try windowed mode. I am running in windowed mode. Will try fullscreen later on. Have you taken any of your PCI voltage away from stock settings? With two 780s working for a living, you might need to revisit the setting if it is off "auto." I am not sure where exactly this option can be found. I assume it would be this BIOS page: Single GPU in SLI mode? I can see why that wouldn't work- or am I missing something? In the NVIDIA control panel, there can be set diffrent profiles for the diffrent applications. The profile included an option to set the SLI-rendering-mode as it was called, to "single GPU". That was what I refered with single GPU in SLI mode. Sorry if it wasn't clear Flashing your BIOS- unless it wasn't up to date enough to run SLI- might have been overkill. Hopefully you didn't brick your system by flashing improperly! The BIOS I ran was several versions old. Changes have been made at several places including PCI-E compability, accordingly to the changelog. So I updated the BIOS to the latest version. The update itselfe whent fine, however, when starting up the computer, Windows wouldn't boot anymore after the POST. After some trial and error I could solve this by resetting the BIOS to default. Keep us posted and we'll try to get you back in action. Thank you for your help. ENO Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Wondering if you had one card slaved to physx and one for graphics? Sorry I'm no master at it- I'm just running down a list of things I'd check into. 1 "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
xxJohnxx Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Hi, Wondering if you had one card slaved to physx and one for graphics? Sorry I'm no master at it- I'm just running down a list of things I'd check into. Sorry I am not exactly sure what you mean. Physx assinged itself to the second GTX 780, as I have set it to "auto". But I haven't set anything. I also don't think that one card is just the physix and the other is doing graphics. But I am no expert on this topic either. Thanks for your help! xxJohnxx Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Hi, I have to cancle an earlier statement. When SLI is disabled, DCS still crashes. Thanks for your help! xxJohnxx Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Okay, just a little update: PROBLEM SOLVED! When installing the new graphics card, I downloaded the latest driver (331.82). I now tried to revert to the previous one, which worked well. And after installing 327.23 drivers, I could finish two hours of flying without problem! Thanks for your help! Best regards, Jonathan EDIT: I just saw that I have used the 331.40 drivers also for some time, and they also seemed to work. I am going to update to those drivers, and will report back if they also work.
