Kaiser78 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I build a mission from on my dedicated PC and had two planes one for me and one for my buddy. We were going to fly a teacher/student mission. We have run multiple missions for each other while learning to play this simulator. When I finished the mission I put it in a shared folder in dropbox like we always do. He downloads the mission and stores it in his Saved games mission folder. He loads up the server and we fly. For some reason whenever I try to connect to him I get connection interrupted. Sometimes I get Stream error. So we try to load a different mission. Then we have no issues connecting. We have the same version of A10. He can run the game in the MP server as a single player without issue. I can run the game in either plane, as well as he can as a "SP" mission. I run Helios in a pit and he is just getting started with his pit. Any reason why I cannot connect to him even though the mission works for both of us individually?
nomdeplume Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If either of you are running any kind of advanced firewall or antivirus software you might want to try temporarily disabling it - perhaps something in the mission file is triggering a false positive and it's interfering with the game's ability to load the file. That might explain why other missions work okay. You could also try clearing out the ..\Saved Games\DCS\Logs folder and then reproducing the problem. Something in the logfile might give a clue, and you can of course upload them here for others to look at. Have you tried hosting any missions yourself, or is your buddy always the host? Might be interesting to see what happens if he connects to you instead.
ENO Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Sometimes he may need to open the mission in his editor, then save it- sometimes as a whole new file name. I use mission.1.2.7.a.miz- save as mission.1.2.7.b etc. example. Then play it. Sometimes- not always. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Kaiser78 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 I will try what you guys suggested. We did check the logs (all of them as far as we can see) with no apparent errors. We will try the resaving the file. The reason why he always hosts is because my ISP will not unblock what we need to host. Port 10308 I think. I have packet forwarding in my router but they just don't want to bother with us. He is also in downtown chicago with a T1 line so we rarely have issues with download/uploads. This was the first mission we had any problems with. Only other thing that comes to mind is that I did create some .Wav files for our mission and that was the first time I tried that. I will keep you posted. Thank you.
Sabre-TLA Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Are both your planes set with: SKILL = Client I think you need at least one of the planes to be set this way for someone to connect using multi-player. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Kaiser78 Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 OK after some testing we found that when I created the mission I made some sound files to mimick the messages that were being broadcast to the coalition or all. When we removed all of the sound files the mission loads fine. Server PC has TPC and UDP packet forwarding on 10308. No sound files no problem. Sound files added it doesn't work.
Kaiser78 Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Just a little more info that may be of use. Looking at all of the other missions we have done and downloaded (FOB Vetka) all of the sound files are .ogg. In my missions I used .wav files making the files extremely large. ~15MB. Could there be a timeout issue for such a large file?
Grimes Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Possibly yes. It really depends on the codec you use to save the audio files. By default wav files aren't that optimal, but if you switch the audio into mono and then saving them in the GSM 6.10 codec you can save a lot of space. My mission "On Station" has 55 short audio files. I tried quite a few different codecs to get the file size down, for a while I simply saved em as ogg, but I tried wav later on... Default ogg: 2.0 mb Default wav: 7.1mb wav GSM 6.10: 0.6mb If you aren't already using it, I'd recommend audacity to convert files as needed. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
