SuperKungFu Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I did a lot of modification to the key commands so it would better adapt to my joystick functions. If I reinstall or build a new PC, I don't want to go back and adjust hundreds of new key commands again...is there a file I can backup that contains my current key configuration? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Luzifer Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 The DCS folder with all the configuration should be in the "Saved Games" folder in your user directory.
cichlidfan Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 There is a separate file for each controller for each aircraft. The best way to save them is to use the Save Profile function from the Options>Controls screen. This is covered on page 23 of the DCS User Manual. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
SuperKungFu Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 its strange when I go into the options control screen, all the save profile function is greyed out - I can't click on it. Is there a specific file that is stored somewhere that I can simply backup and replace when I reinstall? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 It is greyed out until you select a cell in the column for the controller that you wish to save. You can save/backup your Saved Games\DCS World\Config\Input folder which includes everything but using that will overwrite any changes to the keyboard map too. If you look at the folder/file structure under the Input folder, you will see that there is a folder for each aircraft and then a subfolder for each controller type. I have never tried using those files just like that (unless I was reinstalling the same version that created them) since I have created/edited the saved profiles so that they are just the way I want them. I always import my saved files. It should work as long as you are careful to only use the files that you need. I would still advise being careful when the sim is updated as the controls include changes on occasion. lanmancz Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Is there a specific file that is stored somewhere that I can simply backup and replace when I reinstall? Yes - as it was said before - the best thing in this case to backup the whole DCS directory from your Saved Games folder in your system user folder - in Win7 for example in : C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\ Just copy the whole DCS folder to USB drive for example and after reinstall put it back in there and you will have all your settings and everything back. Only re-use the input files of a previous version and use them only after you carefully examined them if they are still compatible with your version of DCS (like cichlidfan wrote). !
