Splash90 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hi. Just thought I would post some pictures of my A10c cockpit build, It's about 3/4 to completion. Just testing that everything works before I take it apart to add all the detailing to the mock up ejector seat and front panel. Loads more to do but It's coming on. I wanted to create a reasonable platform to fly from with stuff in the right place, so accuracy was unimportant, just a visible representation. Hopefully it will okay when it's finished. Anyway let me know what you think, good or bad. Regards Mark

A how-to would be great, of course, but what kind of material did you use? The whole thing looks pretty sharp, though. Keep us updated! Splash90 Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 Hi MacFevre, thank you for your kind words, Nothing too clever has gone on here, just really basic woodwork. I built a timber frame and then covered it with 3mm MDF and hardboard, putting in extra support on the ejector seat. The switch panel below the throttle was home made from an old joy stick and keypad, which I took apart and rebuilt. The ejector seat is loosely based on the A10C and F15 seat, but I still have lots more detailing to add. the green seat covers I had made, am no good at sewing. The right panel I use for my speaker control, mouse and a plastic sheet for writing the JTAC stuff. Have seen your front panel, looks excellent.

Your top dash is all wood? I could swear it looked like plastic or the like. It looks great. However you got the subtle curves, you did a good job. Splash90 Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Hi Thank you all for your comments, just thought I would answer a couple of questions. The MFD's monitors are the Lilliput ones from Amazon that many people are using, It's nice to be able to press the buttons rather than using the mouse. I have posted a couple of pictures of the front section to show what I'm doing, I made the top section using a flexible MDF, this was quite tricky to do because the MDF didn't want to conform to the shape, I had to do it over a couple of days, screwing and gluing small sections at a time, while damping down the mdf as I went along, It was a right work up, and not the best material to use, that said wood is cheap, so it didn't matter if I messed it up. The fire pull levers are made from plastic trim, then painted. The Ext stores jett panel is 2mm plastic card, that modellers use, really easy to work with, I shall make the others in the same way. I am only putting these details in to make the pit look a little less boring, not sure how far to go, as the front section was only intended to house the MFD's and my rudder pedals. The oxygen bottle is made from an old WD 40 can with bits stuck to it, by the time I add the lettering, fittings and hose work it should look the part. As you can see, because these are purely visual, I can use any old junk that's in my workshop. I will be starting the work on the detailing fairly soon, so will post my progress. I have seen some of the work that others are doing and I think it's amazing, but don't think I will going to that level. He says ? All the best
