TM Warthog Throttle - suction cups

I use the AB detent on my TM Warthog HOTAS for the FC3 jets, but lifting the throttles over the stop tends to cause the throttle unit to slide as a certain amount of lift force is required. In the heat of a dogfight, it can slide an inch or so!

 

I don't want to screw it to my nice desk, so was wondering about suction cups. I stumbled across these little beauties on ebay

They seem to be ideal - has anyone got any experience or comment? Or an alternative I can by in a store in UK?

I just stuck some Velcro to my table and matched it with the position I wanted my controller to sit. With some Patience It can be removed at a later date without marring the finish on your desk

You can buy friction pads (non-slip pads) at most home improvement shops or on Amazon. Or you can always go high tech and use egrips.com stuff. I use egrips on my phones/ipads etc. Might be easier than suction cups.

Interesting, thanks. Maybe a grippier surface than my desk is all the pathetic grips pads under the WH need. When the throttles get lifted, those pads do nothing!

There really is no substitute for screwing it down is there no way to build some kind of floor mount or possibly a chair mount mdf is your friend

That will probably work but I would go with Velcro in that case. The industrial (all plastic, no cloth) variety should work well.

I am inclined to agree that bolting it down is best. Without seeing the set up, it is difficult to see what could be rigged up.

well I can say that I bought some basic anti slip mat from B&Q (DIY store chain in UK)

and 2 cut-to-size layers underneath the throttle have done the trick on my Ikea desk! No slip when lifting throttles over the detent. Very pleased :)

Good to hear, Ratfink. Sometimes we tend to over-think/over-engineer things! :)

 

 

PS: I have them on my rudders as well. Works like a charm.
