  1. Hello all, I am doing some research of real-world and Lock On F-15C avionics. While I don't work for ED and there can be no specific promises or commitments, the Russian avionics improvements in v1.1 "Flaming Cliffs" for Su-27 and MiG-29 aircraft shows that sometimes it's possible for new features to be implemented. As such, I am interested to know your suggestions and thoughts, how the F-15C avionics can be improved. I will try to organize the suggestions into an ordered list for ED to consider, and also to provide feedback based on my research of the real-world systems accumulated so far. Since this has the potential to become a long and involved discussion, I decided to separate it from the main "v1.1 features" discussion into its own thread. Here is the list as I have arranged it myself so far. I will be editing this list directly in the first message of this thread to keep it up to date as new ideas and suggestions come up. Ideas to date (07/12/2004 - need to be re-ordered): 1. To fix the code and separate the HSI nav system from the combat modes on all aircraft (not just F-15), so that the HSI continues to show the NAV information about the next waypoint even when the radar or other systems are being used against a target. 2. To implement a finite angular and range resolution for all radars, so that closely spaced targets at a distance appear on the display as a single target. 3. To use time-limited "legacy" tracks, so that targets leaving the TWS scan zone, or returning from STT to TWS, not all tracks are immediately lost. 4. To review the operation of the TWS mode, and ensure that it is not going into STT incorrectly when a target is designated (needs further discussion, especially regarding ECM targets). 5. To ensure RWR is working correctly (needs further investigation, especially regarding accurate symbology). 6. To allow the AIM-120 Rmax zone to expand if the F-15C pitches upwards at the moment of launch, to represent pilot-assisted "lofted" launch trajectory. 7. To implement the "Sort" ("Expand"?) submode, which zooms in the radar display to help "break-out" closely spaced targets. 8. To replace the existing "burn-through" model with a "kinematic ranging" AOJ submode, for estimating the range to an ECM target. 9. To introduce a fighter datalink display on the MPCD (needs further investigation, which F-15Cs actually have such feature). 10. To introduce an air-to-ground radar mode. 11. To let chaff be more effective when rearwards-facing ECM is used. 12. To introduce the "passive Sniff" mode. 13. To let the pilot manually "interrogate" IFF. 14. To review the close-combat auto-acquisition modes (include SuperSearch and ensure correct lock-on range). 15. To introduce the Python and other Israeli weapons. 16. To add color to MPCD display. 17. To introduce night vision goggles (NVGs). 18. To let a single ECM aircraft cover other targets near the same bearing 19. To expand TWS mode with (N)DTWS and HD(ND)TWS 20. To include low-altitude, Med-PRF clutter on the radar display 21. To include Vector and Range Gated High (RGH) search modes 22. To include the "miniraster" function while locking a target 23. To make the arrestor hook functional 24. To ensure the "automatic trimmer" is working correctly 25. Default Master Arm switch to off during ramp start. 26. Add ADI and VI master modes 27. Research the Israeli helmet-mounted sight 28. Collimated HUD display that moves with pilot head, as in Il-2 29. Correctly scaled HUD wrt other instruments 30. "Data fusion" model for use with datalink - AWACS has limited detection range 31. Check for any radar gimbal limits in roll during scan and TWS mode, as on Su-27 32. Check to ensure gunsight radar lock is not being lost at close ranges or in vertical flight without reason 33. Check to see if lock is lost in co-speed tailchases in real life Thanks for your interest, -SK Lock On v1.1 "Flaming Cliffs" beta tester

  2. This mod is LoMan compatible and works for LockOn 1.02 and 1.1FC. Structure Lights Mod V2 download The structure lights will be brighter and visible from longer distance. The runway lights will be smaller and dimmer. The antenna towers will be seen as red and white from longer distance in the daytime. See this 'before and after' comparison. A larger screenshot is here. Compared to the previous version of the mod, the lights are darker and the lit windows are less, but the pop-up of the objects is less noticeable. For better image quality, higher setting of video AF is recommended. I hope you like it. :)

  4. No, your delivery sucks. Period. Wether other people are focused on one plane or another gives you zero dibs to judge then in any way, or to be derogatory. Regardless of which, you focus on being derogatory to F-15 pilots. Stop it. Back to missiles: Your drawing is to the point and pretty much correct. You're right, we don't know the scanning rate, but we can guess it - in essence you can think of it as having the same scan rate as the F-15's radar (simply ebcause it's easy to see what the antenna is doing on the 15) - this has less to do with the ability of the servo to pan the antenna itself - you also need to scan in a specific direction long enough to register a solid 'hit' and get all the info you need. Once you're 'locked on' things change a bit. If you're about to surmise that under those circumstances, scanning 180 deg would take too long to be of practical use, you'd be right ;) The AMRAAM (and pretty muhch all ARH missiles) will typically scan a 'killbox' when they go active (Assuming they're not coming off the raile locked on target) - to give you a better idea, the simplest way to define a dkillbox is this: I have a target which will do a max of 600kts. The time between sweeps is 5 seconds. Ie. I repaint the target every 5 sec. If the last update I have is 5 sec old, I know that this aircraft could have gone about 0.8nm forward (if my math is right) So, I will scan in a radius of 0.8nm around the target. Now suppose my update for some reason is much older: The target beamed, or whatever, and the track is gone. The track is approximately 18 sec old, which means I need to scan a volume of 3nm around the target to make sure I capture it. You would NOT scan the whole 180 deg. See what I mean? The ability to gimbal to 180 deg is useful for use with special trajectories and final intercepts where the missile may have to maneuver radically or use a special trajectory where it needs to look to the side to see the target. Even then the 180 is not *strictly* necessary but i nreality you much accound for delays in homing navigation which may cause the seeker to move to track the target before the missile turns, so that gives you some extra 'leeway' for the seekr to pan during agressive target maneuvers.

  5. let me guess wags you tested it OFFLINE, try it online theres a big difference. Dont know why but there is. Also your test is rather tainted, by this i mean the parameters that you set up would dictate a hit on the target, i.e slow moving large radar deflection aircraft. Get some of your friends in a multiplayer environment have them flying about in a hostile environment then try the shots and see what happens:)

  6. A HUGE one... Vertical Scan shouldn't work by design at more than 10-12 km Octav

  7. Regarding ARH sytems not going after the designated target, have you guys tried this with non-jamming aircraft? I ask because I just did several tests of rapid fire TWS shots on 4 - 6 non-jamming targets (Il-76) at various spacings and altitudes and had no problems. Worked quite well in fact. My guess is that jamming aircraft are trashing the missiles' lock while not breaking the lock of the supporting aircraft. Hence, the missile is looking for the best RCS target out there, while the user thinks the missile should still be guiding towards the intended target. Just a hunch. The far too large seeker FOV is just making things worse. -Matt

  9. Well the "Reputation Influence" number is based partially on "Join date" and partially on the post count. In addition it can be raised further(I believe) by other members giving "rep points" - i.e. when a certain number of points has been reached. There is also a conspiracy theory saying that the F-14 Tomcat is perfectly capable of going into orbit and the only reason why it hasnt been allowed to dock with the international space station, is because Dick Cheeney has shares in the Space Shuttle. I think the rationale was that it would encourage forum members to be helpful and polite to eachother in order to gain some sort of "distinguished status"... and on the other hand, could be used by moderators as a means of "soft punishment" in case a member behaves in an inpolite manor. Anyway, its not my "cup of tea" :) Try: "User CP" > "Edit Options" > "Show My Reputation Level" - then remove the check mark in front of it. - JJ.

  11. I've noticed that some of the Mods and Administrators have the Rep feature turned off. How does a user disable this feature? I'd like mine to be disabled, please.

  12. Can any of the Moderators or Adminstrators explain this Reputation feature in detail? There is a conspiracy theory brewing on another forum that the Moderators are adjusting the Rep points so that only "Pro-Lomac" people are getting points and that some people have actually had their points reduced by the Moderators. I don't happen to believe in this foolish theory, but I thought I'd ask as there is a beer being wagered. Frankly, as I stated above, this Rep point feature is totally useless and serves no productive purpose on the forum. What was the rationale for enabling this silly feature?

  14. Hi Jason. Would it be possible for you to contact the Australian section of PC Aviator? I'm sure they would be more than interested in importing some copies of Flaming Cliffs to supply to us Aussies. http://www.pcaviator.com imo they are the best distributors of flight simulation software and hardware. Good people to deal with. They also sell Track Ir sincerely,

  16. Arrgh, now that would make life difficult . . . . we might see him when they start introducing helicopters. I can foresee the long-running debates on the sexuality of various SAMs and MANPADS already . . . . Anyway - according to this upstanding young gentleman, "the more punks I smoke, my rep gets bigger". See, I didn't even know that NWA frequented internet forums . . . . .

  17. It's just going to be a popularity contest, with no helpful meaning at all. That being said, the lowest rung should be: How do you start the engines?

  18. Positive "Can tell the difference between a plane and a bus" "Knows Where The Eject lever is" "Flying like a bird" Negative, these where easier to think of "So wheres the on button in this thing?" "Never passed flight school" "I tried cooking a marshmellow in my Afterburner, It didnt Work" "Canopies Why?" "I can fly a plane without wings, can you?" just a little bit of my humour :) rekoal
