Hello First of all, DCS BS is an awesome game, all creds to ED. Awaiting the A-10 and the patch, I would like to make a suggestion. What about having a Campaign creation competition? Everyone can participate, and the task is simple; create the best campaign under some preset rules/conditions, and the winner (top 3) wins a prize. The exact rules of the competition would of course have to be set by ED, here are som suggestions though: Rules and conditions: First, the preset conditions, where the number of mission should be set (5?), the overall difficulty (Medium?), number of AI vehicles (to make it playable on most systems) and so on. Mission should be for Single Player. The campaign is evaluated in three "parts" that are equally important: Playability: How well does it play? Any hick-ups? Is it any fun at all? AI: How well does the AI work? Is there any strange things happening, vehicles driving into each other, traffic jams etc. Also, can you fly over enemies without them engaging you and so on. Ambience: How well does the creator capture the "right feeling" with a nice briefing/background information/radio traffic and so on. You could also instate a fourth part, Realism, but then, who are we to judge this? Winner: The winner would be appointed here on the forum by a vote. Of course this will be very arbitrary and subjective, but on the other hand, the same rules applies for all. To prevent people from cheating (for example registering many nicks to be able to vote many times), the prize(s) should be very... humble (who would go through a lot of fuzz just to win a 40 $ prize?). Prizes (suggestion): 1:st prize: A copy of the A-10, and the hardback of the Flight manual for both the A-10 and the KA-50. 2:nd prize: A copy of the A-10. 3:rd prize: A copy of the Flight manual for either the A-10 or the BS. If there is many campaigns participating, well, it will be up to the Campaign creator to promote his own campaign, with briefings/pictures from the campaign here on the forum. Perhaps not all campaigns will be flown in the competition, but if we could get some disc space from ED, well, they would have several downloadable campaigns for those who are interested for the future. I'm sure my idea has many problems, that needs to be solved, but I think this could improve the interest for the game, since playing your own missions feels like... cheating, since you know it all. I also think it is a cheap way for ED to increase the life-length of the BS, meaning that there will not be ten posts every week on "When will the A-10 ber released?" So, I'm up for a fight in Mission Editor/Campaign Builder. Are you?1 point

Just put this together at the VTB forums with the help of S77th-KonKuSSioN's tips (Thanks bud!). Also, be sure to check the VTB Mother of all Stickies thread for a great deal of resources for flight simming! Cheers! -LD Install your original Lock On via your CD. Depending on what LOMAC you buy this will install a version UP TO 1.02. Whether you have version 1.00, 1.01 or 1.02, doesn't matter and depends on when the disc was manufactured. This is fine - let's move on. Immediately apply the Flaming Cliffs add-on (version 1.1) before doing anything else. Installing the Flaming Cliffs add-on means you do NOT need to install any patch(s) numbered 1.01 or 1.02. Flaming Cliffs supercedes both these patches and will upgrade your copy to 1.1. Now patch LOFC (Lock On: Flaming Cliffs) directly to the very latest version. (At time of writing that is 1.12b). You DO NOT need install each interim patch for Flaming Cliffs - 1.11, 1.12a... Just go straight to patch 1.12b! ***There are a two types of 1.12b patch versions. One type is for those who downloaded FC, and the other type is for those who bought the FC add-on on a separate CD. (Disc from GoGamer, Naturalpoint, or included in Lock On: GOLD). BE SURE you are installing the correct version for your game. The two different patches are called CD and Web version. Double check that you are downloading the correct version of the patch for your copy of FC before installing it! Installing the wrong type will render your copy of the sim unusable. Visit www.lockon.ru for the latest fixes & patches. Once you have installed all the above, you can add mods by using ModMan. Version history 1.0: LOMAC (Lock On: Modern Air Combat): The original game developed by Eagle Dynamics and published by Ubisoft. 1.01: LOMAC free patch. 1.02: LOMAC free patch (this is where Ubisoft leaves the picture as publisher). 1.1: LOFC (Lock On: Flaming Cliffs): payware add-on & patch independently released by Eagle Dynamics (the developers of all LOMAC versions & patches). Features a HUGE number of fixes for existing users of the sim and a new flyable aircraft - the SU-25T Frogfoot with an advanced flight model (AFM). Can be purchased by download, or CD, or in an Ubisoft-sponsored project called "Lock On GOLD". NOTE: The initial copies of Lock On Gold had significant errors on one of the discs in the box and replacements were needed. Since Windows Vista was released this add-on & patch is called 1.1b. 1.11: LOFC free patch. This is where ED introduces two versions of the same patch; one for the Web version and one for CD owners of FC. Select your type. 1.12a: LOFC free patch. Released prior to Windows Vista and therefore only has Windows XP support. 1.12b: LOFC free patch. Adds Windows Vista (and XP) support. Same patch as the "a" version, but works on either OS. 1.13: To be announced. . . ? Q: Where can I buy "Lock On: Modern Air Combat"? A: Since its release late 2003, it has become more and more difficult to find a copy of the sim in stores. Mainly due to Ubisoft leaving the picture as publisher and discontinuing production/support for their product after version 1.02. Your best bet is searching Amazon, or eBay, (click links to perform a search) or look for a copy of Ultimate Flight Collection @ GoGamer.com (includes LOMAC, IL2 and Pacific Fighters). You can also buy LOMAC from Eagle Dynamics E-shop. Q: How do I buy "Flaming Cliffs"? A: You can download a copy directly from Eagle Dynamics and pay for an activation code online. This is known as the Web version of FC and uses StarForce activation. The second option is buying a "Flaming Cliffs" CD from GoGamer.com or search eBay, Amazon, Buy.com etc. You can also buy FC on disc from Eagle Dynamics E-shop. The CD version of FC uses StarForce disc check copy protection instead of an activation code. Q: Is there a bundle with both LOMAC and FC? A: Yes, the final (and possibly best) solution is to find a Lock On: GOLD copy containing both the LOMAC CD and the Flaming Cliffs CD. Unfortunately, there aren't as many copies around anymore.1 point

I had a look at DCS's network packets and they are encrypted which is standard security against attackers using packet editors, what I don't understand is why would you encrypt network data and not memory data? Does it really use that much more cpu cycles? I'm sure there's a reason for it but if you dont protect the raw data all an attacker needs to do is target and edit that raw data before it's processed by a certain .dll in DCS for encryption. When handling DCS's raw data all an attacker needs to be skilled at is hex, he doesn't need to know about encryption because DCS will decrypt/encrypt data for him, Forget ACMI exploits there for noobs, by editing the raw data it may be possible to execute more advanced cheats for example like turn aircraft labels on and off on MP servers on the attackers machine and you wouldn't know about it.. If it's impossible to encrypt the raw data because of MP lag then we need some form of program that'll read the clients PC for suspect running processes and a file integrity check that will run before DCS joins a server this isn't fool proof but it'll keep 99.9% of cheats away from the code.1 point

Bank and pitch steering bars are not working in real Ka-50. We did not implement it too.1 point

Yeah I totally agree, especially for when I'm trying to fly straight it takes me quite a while to figure out if I'm sideslipping. Anyways in your case, sir, after seeing your aerobatics track, I believe it would be fair to the rest of the community to have you flying the Shark by using a mouse and a blank screen, only getting instrument indications in barely audible morse code. Just to level up. Not that I'm envious or anything. :P1 point

Meanwhile I have bought a used 6years old (no issues!) MSFFB2 for 60€ on a popular internet trading site -and I love it! Now I'm caught between both worlds. (FFB and Cougar) But I have a eye on the new Logitech G490 that will bring FFB to a hotas-setup.1 point

Correct Regarding unit counts... that is up to the designer to best balance creating a battlefield that feels populated and maintaining frame rates for most users. There is no magic answer to this in regards to numbers, but rather up to the designer to best balance. Welcome to mission design.1 point
