  1. Ironically I've been able to fly the Hawg with my fellow e-Marines in the 15th every night, but I haven't yet fielded a flight with anyone in the 72nd. A lot of them seem to be on the fence about DCS: Warthog due to its lack of a dynamic campaign and a 28,600-pound-force afterburning turbofan.
  2. To be fair, due to Falcon's dynamic campaign, this isn't exactly the case. Ground assets didn't sit around and patiently wait for you to light the fires; one of the selling points of Falcon 4 is that the war was always going on, whether you were waiting for your INS to align or reading a debrief or flying. The bubble -- that's a different matter. Ground assets don't "de-aggregate" from the bubble until you are within a certain distance from them. But even aggregated up into the bubble they still engage in war in a high-level sense. That all being said, like DCS: BS, DCS: Warthog leaves it up to the mission designer to decide whether you ramp or start taxi. If you really like a particular mission and want to ramp it, you could move the clock back a bit and change the first waypoint of your flight to be a ramp start. Might not work for all missions though.
  3. I thought about that, but then you would have to say "Tower menu 2 inbound" as opposed to "Tower 2 inbound" which sounds a little better. People can of course edit to suit their needs.
  4. Here's my VAC profile. Open it up in the builder to get the feel of it. Generally you can say what's on the radio list, with 3 exceptions: - I didn't do any of the JTAC menus, since those are contextual. - I changed the wording of some of the radio items that aren't realistic ("I'm lost" vs. "Alpha check home plate") or poorly translated - None of the individual receivers (Wizard, Soganlug, etc.) are supported, obviously To get around that, I have fallback commands "one" through "ten" to select items from the list. So, if you wanted to ask Wizard what the bogey dope is, you can say "AWACS one request bogey dope" (assuming Wizard is AWACS #1). You could also concievably do JTAC this way, but it's going to sound like "JTAC two one five" or something indecipherable. Still might beat using the ol' fingers. Two prevent these numbers from conflicting with your flight member numbers, you reference your wingman with "two from one" and your element with "three from one". So you can say "two from one break left". Very much WIP, let me know your suggestions. DCS Warthog.zip
  5. Definitely a contrail. ... ... It's how they poison us, you know.
  6. Speaking from my experience as a Cessna/Piper/Citabria pilot, I can tell you the whines continue long after you flip the battery switch off.
  7. Discovered VAC thanks to your post and made myself a DCS: Warthog profile. It's so much more awesome to play the game now! I'll upload my profile shortly.
  8. I have no X/Y bleed. When I want my jet to go left and not up, it does exactly that.
  9. You'll note on the briefing it says Firefly is available on 30 FM.
  10. I'm mainly saying "versatile" due to the variety of control types. The X-65F has two rotaries with Z-axis, an analog ministick (which admittedly cannot be mapped to bindable axes :( ), and a pinky wheel. Of course, no airplane will use all these control types, but for any given game, it's possible to find a decent subset of the X-65F's many controls that at least sort of matches the real-life HOTAS. That being said, if I had $400 to spend as I please I would be pretty hard-pressed to make a decision one way or another. I do miss the dual-stage trigger and the quality feel and anodized metal of my Cougar, but I do NOT miss its handling. I also find the layout of the X65F's controls to be ergonomically poor; that's one thing the F-16 TQS has that cannot be beat. I am, however, now 100% sold on force-sensing; it has made me a much better formation flyer. (Virtual Thunderbirds pilots notwithstanding. :P )
  11. I have the X65F. Really enjoy the force-sensing. I miss the construction quality of the Warthog but the X-65F has two rotaries while the Warthog has none. Warthog is better for DCS: A-10, but the X65F is a more versatile stick all around IMO.
  12. 6'4"
  13. It's definitely that specific mission. I'll check my settings and drivers when I get home.
  14. You should make a tutorial on how to do JTAC in the Khazsomething Gap mission :) I don't understand how I can call IP Inbound, find the mark, call mark contact, find the target, lock the target, and get fire clearance, all in the time it takes to get IP-to-target. Freaking playing the keyboard like a piccolo, that. :)
  15. Gotta tell ya, if I managed to get myself in the seat of an F-22, you wouldn't want to be in my lap...
  16. Beta 2 -- the game freezes for me during some of the Georgia missions (tried the two new Georgia missions). Sound continues, but the video freezes and as far as I can tell from the sound, nothing is actually happening. The first time it happened about 15 minutes in to the mission, the second time about 5-10 minutes. No obvious reason why, it's not like I was doing anything at the time, just flying straight and level. Anyone else?
  17. Let's put it all back in our pants, gentlemen. No need to compare e-peen size by hanging out your flight log here.
  18. Eh, spoke to soon. The English hideout mission green-screens me. The Russian one doesn't. Anyone else? Bueller?
  19. Full reinstall of the app. Works now.
  20. Sticklers will remind me that the VHF AM radio is capable of frequency subdivision in 25-KHz increments ... just to head them off ...
  21. There are two VHF radios in the jet. The VHF AM radio has format xxx.xx. You were looking at the VHF FM radio.
  22. Ran the beta 2 patch, launched it, started a mission -- worked fine. Looked great! Was really excited but ... oops, forgot the tower frequency. Backed out so I could look it up. Started the mission again, tabbed out during the loading, so I had to force-quit the game. Started the game up again, and when I got in game, I can hear the audio, but the screen is completely green. When I move my trackir the audio changes, and I can see the pause dialog, but the 3D is just solid green. Exited, rebooted, tried again, same thing. Any ideas? Reinstall from scratch?
  23. Ah sorry, I mixed it up. The "online achievement tracking, chat room, dynamic campaign" feature was REMOVED in the beta 2 manual. Sorry for getting your hopes up =/

Training mission #5: Fly into LAX airspace, communicate with approach and tower controllers, and land without violating airspace or breaking the law. (What? They do it in Jetstream...)
