  1. It works with both my throttles just fine. The only problem is you can't set the idle detent to correspond to the fuel cutoff in the game. You have to use the keyboard or a joystick button to simulate lifting the throttles over the idle detent.
  2. evilnate, did you actually test with another person? Or did you just start a server for yourself.
  3. Yes, but not all of it is complete.
  4. 1. No. 2. Yes. 3. Not in the beta, but there could be third-party coop campaigns after release. 4. Nothing, since multiplayer doesn't work yet. :( You guys could play the game individually and talk about how awesome it is over Vent, though. That's what I do. The beta is also good to familiarize yourself with the jet in singleplayer before they finish multiplayer compatibility.
  5. Nav training - I'm told to keep my speed up to 300 knots, which is difficult. The plane usually caps out at around 280, which causes the instructor to complain. Also, voice is not yet done for this mission. (I'm sure you already know this.) DSMS training - The voice and captions don't match up. They often have different copy and sometimes completely different instructions. I'm sure you already know this too. :) Landing training - Lua error. Doesn't start. I'll get a stacktrace if you need.
  6. C'mon guys ... don't be mean now ... Press the "TGP" OSB twice to make it the SOI. Then, use the slew hat to move the camera, and the DMS switch to zoom. Use the TMS switch to toggle between AREA and POINT modes.
  7. If you're on the fence ... turn your MASTER ARM switch to ARM :P
  8. You're welcome :P
  9. Hey VRS guys -- I don't want to condone piracy OR start a flame war, just throwing out food for thought ... You gimped the hacked version of the SuperBug, that's fine, but borking up the alpha just makes it seem to people like this guy that you were lazy with the flight dynamics. Then he goes and posts on forums saying VRS SuperBug has great avionics but a lousy flight model. Obviously it's bad that he pirated it, but as long as he did, maybe consider gimping the game in a way that doesn't engender and spread the belief that your software is substandard? Personally I don't own the 'Bug (waiting for Pro, then I'll pick it up) so I don't visit your guys's forums that often ... maybe this idea has been mentioned a hundred times before and if so I'm sorry. Just putting it out there.
  10. You just download it again off Steam.
  11. You got it! DxDiag: http://gist.github.com/608190
  12. If you buy the Steam/Direct2Drive version and blow your computer up, all you have to do is install Steam or download the D2D version on your wife's computer. No difference.
  13. No matter what, you're just "renting" it really. Buying a game gets you a license to install one copy on one computer. Really BUYING the game would be paying ED $10 million for the source code :P
  14. Ever since I built my new computer I've been getting really weird problems. Rather than bore you with a plea for help, let's play a game. I'm going to name a problem, and you, helpful reader, are going to say the first word or phrase that pops into your head when you hear that problem. This should represent your first instinct on where the problem originates. Examples include "motherboard!" or "drivers!" Thanks for your help, Internet people! First, some things you should know: i7 930 -- overclocked to 3.2 GHz. Temps well below 70°. Case temps below 35°. Lots of these problems were verified even before I tried the OC. Gigabyte UD3R -- a capacitor fell out of it once before I installed it. I successfully snapped it back in and the computer booted fine. Win7 x64 and Win XP Pro. Radeon 5870 -- Also O/Ced, done using their automatic O/C software. Temps look normal. 6GB 2000MHZ RAM SSD boot and magnetic applications drives Now, onto the problems! Flickering black screen during POST. Occasionally, from POST to just before the login screen is displayed, the screen is black, periodically flickering on to display a distorted image, then returning to black. The flicker is regular, about every 1.5 seconds or so. This can happen randomly but seems to always happen when rebooting from XP to Win7. Spins on shutdown, ultimately reboots. Been a while since the computer successfully shut down. Usually it spins on the "Shutting down..." screen for hours (if I left it), then ultimately reboots with a message "Your computer recovered from an unexpected shutdown" Unexpected reboots during startup. Occasionally reboots during startup, during the Loading Windows screen before the login. After reboot, will default to Startup Repair, which hasn't worked in a while. Startup Repair loads Windows but immediately reboots. One or two reboots later and I can usually get to the login screen. Leaves some USB devices unpowered on boot. Does not always power on every USB device after booting. I can fix this by simply unplugging and re-plugging all of my USB devices once the computer is done booting. Keyboard occasionally unusable during POST. Anyone's guess as to whether the USB keyboard will be usable during POST. Sometimes it powers on for POST, sometimes it doesn't. Unplugging it from my HUB and plugging it directly into the front panel makes it always work during POST.
  15. Actually you guys have it completely bass-ackwards. Digital downloads are supposed to solve the longevity issue that optical media creates. PROBLEM: You bought a CD. Inevitably it will get scratched or corrupted. By then you've long since lost your proof-of-purchase so you're basically out of luck and have to either buy the game again or argue with a tech support guy for hours before he sends you a replacement CD. SOLUTION: Buy the game via Direct2Drive or something and download it. If you need to wipe your computer, download it again. If you buy a new computer, download it again. You can download it again and again, as many times as you need to. There's no need to burn a CD or keep a proof-of-purchase ... as long as Direct2Drive exists and is in business they will remember that you bought the game and will keep a valid download link for you. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. Of course, if Direct2Drive goes under, then it's time to start looking at burning a CD ... but even still, that doesn't exactly make it any worse than the old way of buying games. (Lost your Falcon 4 CD? Sure, just give MicroProse a call ... oh wait ...) Now, as to power5's complaint, that $50 in the past used to get you game, box art, manual, fold-out map of Korea, keyboard chart, quick-reference checklist, etc. ...yes, true. Nowadays $50 only gets you the bits and bytes of your game, it's another $10 for that map, another $30 for the manual, etc... BUT, stop to consider: Perhaps this is not because companies are trying to rip you off. Perhaps it's because, due to inflation and increasing consumer demands for more and more complex games, the cost of developing an A-level game nowadays is higher than it was in 1995. If Eagle did sell a DCS: BS box with tactical map, manual, keymap chart, checklists, etc., I bet it wouldn't cost $50. I bet it would cost $100, at least. The thing is, digital downloads gives you the CHOICE of getting the bare-bones game for $50 if you want to. If you do want all the bells and whistles, you have the CHOICE of buying what you need, separately. If you don't need the manual, don't get it. No need to buy the whole damn grocery store just to get the food you need. What you CAN'T do is get everything for $50. It's not 1995 anymore. Computers are really fast now and consumers expect games that make use of that processing power with super-complex graphics, AI, flight models, and avionics. And that ain't cheap.
  16. I believe I have clicked all combinations of those buttons in frustration, but I shall double-check to be sure when I get off work.
  17. What I need is some way to send Eagle additional money so that they can receive appropriate thanks from me. Is there some way you guys can bundle the $50 game with, say, sone cheapo $30 light-amplification goggles and sell it for $180? :P
  18. Just gave this another go on my Win7 64/ATI system and lo and behold, it actually works. It's no OpenFalcon (I miss you, you old cantankerous lady), but it certainly beats Allied Force. Only one problem ... can't map any keys. I map keys using the UI and the moment I exit the dialog, the keymap resets. Any fix? Or should I just use my joystick's keybinding software?
  19. Run the FSX missions, from beginner to expert, and tell me it's a bus-driving sim. A bus-driving sim where you can't see 200 feet in front of you, your bus has one engine out, a vacuum failure, and there's ice creeping onto everything.
  20. If you need to fall asleep for a month or two, there's some drugs that can help with that.
  21. 227 kg = 500 lbs. Looks like they forgot to convert before changing the units. :)
  22. Hey remember back when Microsoft released that game of theirs, Microsoft Flight, and we all played it and stuff and a bunch of patches and third-party mods came out, and then Eagle released DCS: Warthog, and we all played it and loved it and drooled over the announcement of DCS: Viper, and even after all that you guys were still arguing over the differences between Windows XP and Windows ME?
  23. Also, I just want to make sure of something here ... no one actually believes it's going to be a browser-based game, a la Farmville, right? That's just a joke, right? Cuz there's a difference between a social game that uses the LIVE platform and a game that runs in your web browser...
  24. Guys, enough spreading FOD. This comes directly from the FAQ: "The new “Microsoft Flight” retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect while offering all players a whole new look and feel..." So you can turn off easy mode, quit yer b*tchin.
  25. FTFY (fixed that for you)
