IRL - Dispersed Airfields with the F-16?
percivaldanvers replied to percivaldanvers's topic in Mission Editor
Apologies for the late reply - I forgot to follow the topic and didn't get the notification and so assumed no one replied lol . Thank you this is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for! I've found a couple of decent locations on the Syria map. I will have to get some screenshots of where they were. Nothing really excellent but a few stretches of decently straight/flat/wide highway in Cyprus and Israel that I managed to work with using the F-16. That said, nothing I found yet has a really good taxi area, so the "stuck in the mud" problem is still a factor. -
I was playing around with some of the missions and gave this one a try. I'm familiar with the concept of everything you need to do in this mission (i.e. CAS working with a JTAC using nineline) but trying to apply it all at once was... humbling. Does anyone have a video of successfully completing this mission? I want to study a more successful run to see what I was doing right/wrong.

Hell yeah! I've been looking forward to this!

So this is a question about the real life Viper that relates to making realistic missions for it, so I'm hoping it's not inappropriate to ask here. With cruise missiles increasing in their capability to strike airbases, questions arise as to the potential usefulness of the F-16 in a warzone where it might have to operate from a highway strip or other dispersed location. I'm wondering how true this is. I know many countries chose to the Hornet or the Gripen specifically for their ability to cope with this kind of environment, and I know the F-16 is supposedly very sensitive to FOD. That said I've also seen footage of the Singapore AF carrying out drills for using the F-16 in a dispersed setting, and I know F-16s practice Highway takeoff and landing on the Autobahn during the cold war. So if I'm making a mission, is it realistic to make one with the Viper operating out of a road strip in a scenario where the air base has been taken out of action?

Struggling With Task Force Challenger Mission 1
percivaldanvers replied to percivaldanvers's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Interesting! I did notice that I did slightly better in attempts where I didn't go for as much of an altitude advantage. Perhaps that's why. -
4V4 Aim 7 Hornet missions Vs. Mig 29's
percivaldanvers replied to kennyuk77's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Wow thank you. Using this method got me my first shut-out victory on this. I'm not really sure why it worked, but it worked really well just going straight into the merge with fox-2s. At least much better than thinking I could win a BVR fight with aim-7s -
I got in a bit of a cold war mood and decided to revisit the Task Force Challenger campaign. Hoooo boy was I in for a rough go of it. Using the Aim 7 feels like a death sentence in the Hornet for me. Normally in a BVR situation I'll fire off a missile to try and force the enemy defensive, but I lose lock so fast that the Migs can recommit while I'm still defending their Fox 1s and then it's just downhill from there. For fun I tried mission 1 with the F-14A also using only Aim 7s and two times just trashed the enemy Migs and Fencers with no losses to my flight. Reviewing my flights I don't think I was actually moving that much faster or flying that much higher. Kinematically the situation was about the same in all flights: flying about Mach 1.1, launching at an altitude advantage of ~5000 ft. Every factor I can think of is the same, but I won 2/2 attempts with the F-14 with no losses and poor flying on my part (I forgot to prep the missiles prior to merge in one and still won) vs winning only 1/3 attempts with the Hornet, and losing my wingman in the one occasion where I did win. I can't seem to nail down exactly why that mission is so easy with the Tomcat and so hard for me with the Hornet. Maybe I'm just too used to relying on Spamrams...

Open Beta, CombinedArms.dll = ESET threat
percivaldanvers replied to ADHS's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Not sure if this info is helpful to anyone or not, but I had the same issue just now with Windows Defender. As with Apmech, allowing Defender to delete the file and running a repair seems to have cleared the issue up, but I'd certainly be glad to know any more info as it becomes available. nullnull -
Order the development correctly. If you can't get this kind of information up front - don't make the module. I paid for an aircraft with the understanding that it had certain capabilities only to be told now that it doesn't have those capabilities. I feel cheated.
-
We have discovered that the AV-8b II Night Attack Harrier has never operated in the Caucuses, so going forward the module will be disabled for this map.
-
It's honestly infuriating. I get the realism thing, but that stuff needs to be done up front, not years after we've gotten used to doing things a certain way.
-
I desperate wish we could have an export version F-16 with the chute, similar to how we have different versions of the F-14 and Mirage F-1. There's nothing more satisfying that pulling of a really short landing with a chute. I understand the reasons for not doing it, but I just think it would be really cool.
-
Since I discovered they added the option for ground starts in the editor I've started making improvised road bases in various parts of the maps where the roads are wide/straight enough. It's a shame we don't have arresting wires or an F-16 with a drag-chute though. Either of those would really increase the possibilities.
-
I would love to have this! Ever since we got ramps and the ability to start on the ground I've been doing a lot of improvised airfield operations, and having a placeable arresting wire object would dramatically expand the forward-area capabilities of aircraft with tailhooks like the Hornet and F-5.

Firing Multiple Single Bursts w/Rockets
percivaldanvers replied to percivaldanvers's topic in DCS: Mirage F1
Really? I must be doing something wrong. I can fire one burst on a trigger pull but if I don't touch the switch again after that the trigger won't release another burst. EDIT: I didn't have my bomb/rocket switch set properly -
Hi all, as I understand it to fire a single pulse with the rocket pods you select SINGLE on the salvo/single switch and you can fire one pulse with the rocket pods after which you have to reset the switch again or the pod won't fire. I find this a bit cumbersome. Is there a more convenient way to fire multiple short bursts with the rockets in quick succession? Let's say I have multiple soft targets near each other and don't want to dump all of my rockets on just one or come back to make a bunch of different passes.

Game very slow to start after 2.8
percivaldanvers replied to Dallas88B's topic in Game Performance Bugs
This has been in single player loading into free flight missions for the AH-64. That said I've also had it happen with the Mi-24 free flight now too so I'm no longer so sure how specific it is to the AH-64. -
Game very slow to start after 2.8
percivaldanvers replied to Dallas88B's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Sorry I should be more specific. I get bizarrely long times with preload. It will be stuck on 1/60 for what feels like minutes. I'd think it has something to do with the terrain or something but if I start from the same place in a different helicopter it loads normally. Occasionally it won't get stuck like this but I haven't been able to figure out the pattern of it. -

percivaldanvers replied to Dallas88B's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Just jumped back into the Apache after a long time away and I am also experiencing ridiculously slow load times in any mission with it on Syria. No other module gives me this problem. Performance is fine when I actually get into the mission, it just takes an unbelievably long time to load. -
IRL What are Modern Su-25s Like?
percivaldanvers replied to percivaldanvers's topic in Su-25T (Free with DCS World)
I guess what I should be asking and where I'm going with this thread is this: Which of the two Su-25s we have is closest to the experience of flying a modern one that would be in service today? Obv the A has the airframe, but the T has the modern HUD that it seems like the newer ones use. Would it basically be like using a T without the Shkval? -

percivaldanvers replied to percivaldanvers's topic in Su-25T (Free with DCS World)
Interesting! It does indeed look like the old cockpit with an updated HUD. I get a laugh out of those iphones glued on. I guess it falls under the category of "if it's stupid and it works it's not stupid" It's interesting how they do a popup for those rocket attacks, like they're lofting them.
