Performance/FM Development Status DCS 2.8.3.37556 Open Beta FEEDBACK
IronMike replied to maxsin72's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
There's nothing wrong with wing rock, to the contrary, we fixed it to be as it should again. It was not as pronounced as it should have been for a while. -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
We're a bit baffled atm why our fix did not work, and it is pretty high on our list to fix it, apologies that it still isn't. Something just doesn't want to play along, and we are trying to find out what. Hopefully in the next patch, fingers crossed. -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023

Very quickly into its service, indeed, and the weathered cockpit as is would have looked like that a couple weeks in, on the boat. This has been confirmed numerous times by maintainers, by Dave "BIO" Baranek, pilot SMEs and others who worked on and in the jet. You can hear it from the man himself in this video on the timestamp (20:30). BIO btw was a real Top Gun instructor, and was also part of the Top Gun movie. -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023

I know, and I appreciate it, but that still does not change the fact that we do not get to decide how the jet really was. It's part of the Tomcat, and these things make the Tomcat and set it apart from other jets, too. Some will like it, some won't, that's just how it is. And because we know you guys, and value your preferences, we try to give you as many options as we can, and when we can. You mentioned the pilot body. The day it arrived, you were able to turn it off... etc. Some things take longer, because it takes more effort or would be premature to offer such an option. You will get it, that's what matters most I think, even if I personally think it should not be optional, but my personal perferences come in a very distant second to yours. -

The decision of what we model, or not, is not up to whether you like it or not. We could just as easily decide not to make it selectable. It's a bonus courtesy that we do so, in light of a bigger picture at the end of FORGE, and we will not waste time on stop-gap measures in the meantime, just because you disapprove of something, which simply was as is depicted. Same goes for the weathered cockpit, etc. This is how it was, and, sorry if you disapprove, but you will have to live with it. I heard you the first time, you do not like it, and some others don't either. But again, the Tomcat's history and its accurate depiction is not part of a personal wishlist of any of us and does not care about our personal preferences. You may dislike it, you may tell us so repeatedly, but that does not change that it in fact was like that in the jet and that we decided to depict it as such. Thank you for your kind understanding. -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023

There's a distinct difference between a gameplay breaking "feature", and one that is a visual representation of how the jet was, whether you think it is horrible or not. We already said that once we are done, you will be able to put together "your own jet". -
Thank you Spice, always great to hear first hand experience!

MT white flickering on windshield/ canopy upon loading in server
IronMike replied to Tweety777's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thank you for the report! Would you be so kind and show us a video if possible, please? Or a screenshot maybe? Also could you please clarify what you mean with "until the server fully loaded"? Do you mean the mission, that is, is it happening only when you spawn right after server load, or do you mean when you fully loaded into the mission with your jet on a server that has already been running for a while? Thank you! -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yes, this is unfortunately a limitation for the time being due to missions, as the new set is treated like a new spawn. -
Yes, it was, but not enough. We need to change more, as we basically ran into its limits, if you like, or if that explains it better. We just ran out of time for this patch to keep pushing the matter, everything from here on out, is much more involved unfortunately and requires a great effort to get it right, hence I'd kindly like to ask you for your patience. Suffice to say, we feel the same as you guys do about the probe light.

No worries. What I read some reported to have helped was to make sure that the MT exe in the control panel has threaded optimization turned from default auto to on. -

Even more so, you will be abel to tie it to a livery even for as long as you wish. However in service these things would change in the same jet, too. Wire might have gotten lose over a mission, replaced with the metal plate, or tape, etc... It was not really like "this jet will only get wire for the duration of red flag" or similar. -
Unfortunately no, but this is precisely what I meant that just increasing its strength does not fix the issue. We need to change more about the light to make it work as intended. Which we will.

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It really shouldn't, because it was a reality of the Tomcat. We will do it in the end as a service to you guys and out of good will. What if someone doesn't like where the RWR is placed, or how it looks, or whatever example you want to think of. Could make that a special option, too, and "no one loses anything in that way"... This is not something arbitrary, but part of the jet's history, whether you like it or not. Please be patient until we finalized forge, and then you will be able to put together your very own jet, to your very own preferences, unlike a real Tomcat pilot, who could not do that. For four years we got asked "Forge when?" - now that it is finally here with its first elements, some already want it turned off... What was and what wasn't in the jet, generally is not part of a personal wishlist, or something we make up out of thin air. Grumman did not design the jet, the placement of buttons and the workarounds needed for parts of the jet, with the personal preferences of simmers 50 years later in mind... It's not something any of us have a choice in. It is how the jet was, and that is what we are depicting as accurately as we can, whether one likes it or not.- 158 replies

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
No, not until we are done with forge. And it is not "weird stuff", it is a part of the Tomcat's operational reality. Once we are done, you will be able to put together "your jet", according to your own preferences. -
Check in the bug section @DSplayer posted a fix, if you want to keep using the mod.
-
Thank you for the mod, and thank you to @DSplayer for providing a solution.
-
We'll talk more about this in the update we will publish soon, to not spill all beans ahead, but once done, it will be pretty sweet imho.
-
Sorry don't have one atm.
-
Are you using any cockpit mod, re: mirrors? If not, please show a screenshot. If yes, cockpit mods seem to be currently conflicting with the mirrors. It would be up to the mod-creator to update them accordingly. Also, is this in MT or ST, please? Forge elements cannot be disabled. That's how it looked and what was used in the real aircraft. Later, once we are done with Forge, you will be able to "put together your own jet" just as you like it best.

Performance/FM Development Status DCS 2.8.3.37556 Open Beta FEEDBACK
IronMike replied to maxsin72's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Lateral refers to stick roll input (aka left/right) and directional controls is the rudder. To avoid wing rock at high AOA, it is best to roll with rudder only, and not use any lateral stick input at all, or you can relax the AOA, roll for exampel 90°, then pull again with the stick, and so on and so forth. The worst is cross-inputs, which means using rudder and lateral stick input at the same time, which can also lead to a departure from flight. Using lateral stick can also lead to roll reversal at high AOA, meaning you will command left roll input with your stick, but the aircraft will roll right. -

It's a figurative speech, and it means we made a decision to wait, because the spotlight and major attention is now on MT, deservedly so. We'll publish it, when we feel the time is right, which will be soon enough. Whether that makes sense to you, is irrelevant, to put it bluntly, we have our reasons. Please realize that we neither invited you to give, nor need your approval to make decisions of any kind. There's a difference between constructive feedback (which we care about a lot) and disagreeing with almost everything we do, as you seem to be doing lately (which I hope you will understand we do not care about just as much). Thank you for your kind understanding. -
Performance/FM Development Status DCS 2.8.3.37556 Open Beta FEEDBACK

He wasn't polemic Maxsin, you take everything as a personal attack. Yes, I agree with Frosty, he gave you good advice, twice, and you say I should tell him to stay quiet? This forum is not your personal playground, everyone shares it equally and the way we get all along with each other is to not take every bit of disagreement as a personal attack. And quite often you say "all was ok" - but that doesn't decide when someone else needs to stop giving their input. Then they say something, and instead of reacting to that level-headed, you feel attacked. You need to change your attitude, not him. It's always the others, not you. That's not ok. And we are seriously getting tired of this victim attitude of yours. It's happened "too many times", because you keep taking every bit of advice personal. It's your behavior I am not agreeing with. I hope I am being crystal clear on that. And no, this is still not a personal attack, I am trying to help you get along with everyone else better. If you don't want to take it, that's fine, but don't be surprised if this back and forth keeps happening "too many times" then... If you want to discuss this further, please PM me. -
