Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive
bartleby replied to Eight Ball's topic in Chit-Chat
Sort of regretting my purchase. The FM is admittedly a bit better than ARMA's (which is pretty bad), but it's decidedly a low-fidelity simulator. I get this overwhelming feeling of flying through syrup. Might try the link hassata posted, but just a suggestion for anyone expecting Black Shark level flying: try the demo first. -
As mentioned, the hog only does range. From my understanding of how TACAN works, transmitting bearings takes a lot of power and makes a lot of heat, and I think most small planes don't bother with it.
-
The stick friction slider on the Thrustmaster Warthogs is pretty conveniently located....
-
Exciting news. Return of battlefield commander is neat - I joined the beta right after it got taken out and never got a chance to try it. Seems like a natural extension of CAS planes. Looking forward to more details. I'm sure there's an interesting story to the development... I guess Flying Legends is going to be a WWII-era prop plane? I admit to being a little less interested in that particular aspect of simming, but the fact that ED is potentially making study (?) sims for planes NOT under military contracts opens up a lot of future possibilities. What I'm trying to say is that Phantoms are legends, too!
-
Just remember not to try to use flaps when landing a plane with a missing wing :)

In the mission editor you can assign probabilities and times for system failures. Set the hud probability to 100 and that should do it :)

Not sure how to install an older version, unfortunately. Also not sure how to troubleshoot a TARS install...especially considering I haven't been able to get it working with the Hog myself. :( Actually, you might try this, found it with google: http://ftp.4players.de/pub/hosted/ts3/releases/
-
Ah! So much for my comparison, then. Thanks much for the info!
-
He mentioned that TARS wouldn't work with the new version of TS3 in the other thread - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1196111#post1196111 So I guess you'll need to roll back if you want to use it.

I ask because I am in the interesting position of being able to pick between two Warthogs, one version 1 and the other version 3. I was just wondering if there were any substantial differences or if they were relatively minor. In my cursory external examination, they feel similar. Some of the throttle switches seem to feel a little better (particularly the china switch - always felt odd on my old v1). Not overwhelmingly so, though.
-
Is there any information available about the changes? Anything significant?

I RMAed my Warthog a little while ago, and got the replacement in the mail yesterday. When I was setting it up, I noticed that the tag on the USB cord said "Version: V.3." Searched here and simhq, didn't find any mentions of different versions. Anyone else's say anything different?

The left hydraulics power the brakes, so if you start the right engine first you'll have to pull the emergency brake handle. Most checklists suggest starting the left first.

Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?
bartleby replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just got my replacement in the mail. It's a definite difference. Worth considering if it bothers anyone. -
The EAC won't arm unless you're in NAV mode. It certainly will arm on the ground, though. Make sure you're allowing a proper alignment, setting NAV, and arming radar alt and SAS.

HOTAS for DCS Series & more
bartleby replied to DarkTrooper's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've had a G940 and a Warthog. Had an X52 some years ago, haven't used it with DCS though. Of them all, I prefer the Warthog. It's hard to get across how solid and wonderful the feel of it is. Solid metal construction, great switches, heavy buttons. The feel is fantastic and hugely surpasses anything I've ever tried before. It's stiff, which I like. I got rid of the X52 because it felt too loose for me. Of course, the downside is the price. A Warthog + pedals setup is at least twice as much as the G940 setup. The G940 is alright. Not as bad as some people say, but definitely a bit rough. Logitech seem not to be working too much on fixing the bugs, sadly. -
Probably a sim issue, but if you're not in TR mode it should only give a bearing. Could be you accidentally left set it to receive only mode?
-
Yep. Set your TACAN to A/A TR mode, hit TCN on the NMSP, then range should be provided in the upper left of your HSI. That's a lot of acronyms. Hm.
-
Merkavas? Huh. Interesting.
-
Have people really been having a problem with TKs? I don't think I've ever seen one in my entire time online thus far*. Sometimes there's poor airfield coordination, but not awful. Maybe that's changed with the Steam release, I dunno. *Though I have to admit I (accidentally! I swear!) downed a teammate with a maverick once. I wanted to see if it would track and thought it was in training mode...apparently not : /

Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?
bartleby replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Contacted the people I got it through (Amazon third party) and explained the situation. They said just to send it back for an RMA. That was easy. Anyone wondering about this, it's worth contacting the vendor and seeing what they say. -
Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?

It's not the end of the world, but this is a 500 dollar piece of gear we're talking about. I don't mind being a little finicky about it. -
It'd be nice if they'd suppress tooltips while the cursor is hidden, too.
-
Huh. Just tried setting up a switch in options. Doesn't seem to be taking. Anyone else able to do so?
