  1. I remember reading a book about Warthogs in the (first) Gulf War. They had to ferry across the Atlantic without any of that. I think it even said there was no trim, but I'm not sure I can believe that. Sore hands after a few hours of that, I'd imagine.
  2. Go into the flight plan page in the CDU, and press the button for the currently active plan. It should switch from "auto" to "man." Quite useful for setting up a flight plan with various targets.
  3. In an unfortunate coincidence, Eagle Dynamics got the controller from Reagan National to code the ATC.
  4. That's good to know. So maybe getting shot down so often wasn't entirely my fault!
  5. CMS left/right changes the active countermeasures program. Forward starts a program, aft ends it. Not too sure about the z axis - been trying to figure that out myself.
  6. There's also the Logitech G940...which is slightly controversial, but actually a fairly decent deal for the price. It includes rudders. They're not that important for DCS A-10, but if you want to fly IL-2 or Rise of Flight, they're nice. It works for me, but other people have been rather annoyed by it. So, ymmv, as in so much.
  7. I think he's referring to when the tutorial requires hotas commands. Those don't show up in yellow, I think. That might be confusing.
  8. HOTAS stands for "hands-on throttle and stick." In other words, the idea that you can control most of the avionics and weapon systems while still keeping your hands on the controls. The coolie hat, china hat, tms, dms, cms, etc switches and hats are all on the throttle or the stick. That's how it works in the plane. Of course, you could use the OSBs if you wanted to, but that's just another option. Learning the hotas switchology is really essential to being able to fly effectively. Practice until you can accomplish all the different functions by memory. Yeah, there are a lot of functions that are only on the hotas. Hm, as for the joystick. It looks like it has a hat switch. Only one, though? You might be able to set up a switch as a modifier and effectively add another, but that could be annoying. I'm not sure if using a game pad as an alternate controller would be too fiddly or not. Might be worth a try. Otherwise you'd probably have to use the keyboard.
  9. Ah, good call with DTS setting. That solved some stuff. What exactly is coordinate ranging, though? The manual is sort of unclear on that, and search didn't turn up much.
  10. My guess would be it's related to fraps or whatever he's using to record the screen.
  11. This one? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68182 It's probably because you're running a 32 bit OS. It can't fully address 4GB of memory. You should be fine - 4GB isn't required.
  12. Once I got cleared to taxi...when I was circling the field at about 6000 feet. At least he didn't repeat himself.
  13. Does coordinate ranging mode figure into this in any way?
  14. Yeah, as mentioned by everyone, this is pretty great. One minor thing I've noticed: Kopitnari now appears to be Kutaisi in the sim. Had a few confusing minutes there! On the plus side, it looks like just the name changed - the frequencies and and ILS info were still correct when I checked.
  15. Well, besides that little difference... :)
  16. Would you comment on the issues regarding the question of that release?
  17. Who's running the page?
  18. Theaters are moddable? I didn't realize that.
  19. There are some USNG training materials at http://publicintelligence.net/us-national-grid-training-information-and-maps/ The grid zone and square designations are different between the two, I think, but follow similar patterns. The grid coordinates should be (functionally) the same, as they're both based on UTM. Learning to read one ought to be useful in learning to read the other.
  20. I recently read Driels' book on weaponeering (http://www.weaponeering.com/), and now I'm thinking about applying some of that to DCS. The manual doesn't really address weapon modeling. A (cursory, I admit) search through the forums hasn't turned up much either. Are CEPs and measures of effectiveness available for the sim? I guess I could find them out experimentally, but that seems sort of perverse. It also might be interesting to try out a target acquisition model, too. Terrain data might be hard to generate, though. Also, does anyone know if any aspects of JMEM or JAWS or similar tools are available in unclassified forms or minus classified data sets? I'm going to assume not.
  21. We're all waiting for dis simulation, aren't we?
  22. I certainly am. Sending a PM.
  23. For your second problem, yeah, that's been discussed a bit (thread here in the beta forum). Apparently the text sizes are that way in the actual jet. You can use zoom to make them larger, though. I changed trackir z axis to zoom, seems to work alright.
  24. 4.8? Wow. What sort of cooling setup do you have? What temperatures are you getting with that?
  25. Gotcha. Eagerly looking forward to giving it a try whenever.
