  1. Study and print out the HOTAS section of the manual. This is the core section for learning to fly and fight the plane. Everything else will build off of your ability to manipulate and use those controls. The training missions are helpful, but I learned mostly by reading the manual and repeating instant action. That gives you various targets and a fully prepped, configured and armed plane to practice with. Ramp start procedures are pretty easy to pick up later. Definitely turn on labels too. You can always turn them off later if you want. You really should read the manual, though. 99% of the info you'll ever need is in there. However, with certain things (notably CDU usage), the information isn't laid out in a way amenable to learning. If there's some section that is just totally opaque or confusing, do a search in the forums here and odds are someone will have produced a video or a document explaining it. The community information is really helpful and well done. The wiki has a page with listings here: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/DCS:_A10C_Training_Supplements You can also hop in a MP server and ask. Most people are eager to help out online.
  2. The ministick on the joystick? Check your axis binding in DCS. Otherwise you could try resetting your controllers as explained here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61018 and retrying.
  3. Is it possible to switch to 2D navigation? Haven't experimented with that, but it might be a quick way.
  4. Was it after a reload? That might be the culprit. I'd like to get an official answer on this, too. I've seen mentions both ways.
  5. Anyone know if the SDB is going to be modelled in DCS at some point? Has that even been integrated IRL yet? Anyway, another plus for this. Although the requirement to limit "collateral damage" would imply a need for some more robust planning tools as well. As it is, working out areas of damage effect is sort of trial and error. Some standardized weaponeering tools might limit the tendency for contingency planning that results in the usual loadout being six -65Ds and four CBU-105s.
  6. This should be emphasized, too. I've had huge results from adjusting FLIR level and gain. I usually start by setting the level and then bumping up the gain until everything pops. Also, range seems to have a big effect on the best FLIR settings. Far away objects require higher levels and gain, closer less. So keep that in mind as you ingress.
  7. You are correct.
  8. You can only join whichever is available. Just means you have to practice a bit more, is all. Versatility ;) Although MP missions are usually with Leos or M1s, so if you know either FCS you ought to be fine.
  9. You can filter the debrief. Can't remember which field exactly, but set it to your pilot and you'll only see stuff relevant to you.
  10. That's a nice touch. Going to go experiment now :)
  11. Neat skin in there. Is that available anywhere?
  12. What do you mean? The other one should still work if the other is damaged.
  13. In game terms, it basically means the amount of control the JTAC will have over the pilot. Type 3 is usually just a data point and a "cleared to engage." Types 2 and 1 will have IR or smoke markers and there will be more restrictions on your attack. I can't remember the last time I had a Type 1 in-game, but basically you'll have to tell him you see the mark, you see the target, when you're beginning your attack run and then he'll clear you to engage.
  14. Press and hold one of the bottom OSBs of the operational MFCD. A screen should open showing all the different options. Click the one you want, then the bottom OSB you want to apply it to. http://www.dcswiki.com/index.php?title=Display_program_MFCD_page_(A-10) I think you might be able to hit DMS down to swap, too. I forget if this works when one MFCD is not operational.
  15. Now I see where they get the lower figure for A-10 landing rolls. Nice work.
  16. Maybe a community track database would be a good idea? On the wiki or in the files area?
  17. I'd use a joystick. Any basic stick with a few buttons is enough. No TrackIR, but I can't see it adding much.
  18. The mission creator can set a random chance of failure. If you check in the debriefing, it should show component failures. If it happened on the ground, sounds like that's what happened. Not sure about the air one - sometimes AAA sneaks up on you.
  19. If you haven't already, you should download paulrkiii's excellent emergency checklists (in his signature here http://forums.eagle.ru/member.php?u=70884). IIRC, they mention that the APU shouldn't be turned on after an engine fire due to fire risks.
  20. I don't think the A-10 has a delayed CCIP mode...you can try using the HUD designator to quickly set a SPI, but that's not the same.
  21. Pretty sure I've had CADC failures repaired with the engines-off procedure before.
  22. It's a good time to buy, too, since they're going to be adding player-crewable Challenger 2s soon.
  23. They should be in this format: NXXXXXXX E0XXXXXXX You'll get input errors otherwise. And yeah, make sure you're clicking the right OSB like Chris said...I don't know how many times I've hit the wrong one because of the perspective.
  24. Hint: try waiting a minute after ejecting and see what happens :music_whistling:
  25. Good discussion of bullseye and BRA here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60316 and here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67205 There's a picture option. BRA/bulls has to do with distance, I think. 100 nm or less is BRA, otherwise bulls. Or something to that effect.
