Which pedals are worth the money?
Revvin replied to Ein Name wie kein Name's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm 6'3" and never had any issues with the CH Pro Pedals being too close together. -

It gives you a big hit to framerate but it looks absolutely superb. The textures were great anyway but with this patch and the texture pack it really makes things look so much more lifelike in the tones of colours in your surroundings, the lighting, HDR etc.

The view from the other side of Steam: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/304378/how-valve-shook-up-the-pc-market-1c-on-steams-true-value/ Its an interesting article

Generally new games are not competitive on Steam, they are normally at their full RRP although recently more games have been sold at a slight discount if you pre-order on Steam. Steam has had some fantastic sales lately though with some good bargains for older games and some more recent releases when publishers do promotions there. For new games there are a few I still liek to have boxed copies for such as ED sim as I have everythig nthey've done on CD/DVD since the first Flanker but for the convenience Steam provides I am buying more and more new titles there and paying the little extra for the ability to download the game whenever I want, automatic patching, the Steam overlay, friends list etc.

Does that TV not have standard VESA mountings?

Whats the weight distribution like Ghost? seems adding a tower to the back with an already heavy screen would make that end quite heavy, is there any danger of the rig tipping?

Agreed, a source (no pun intended) would be nice. I've not heard any news of Steam being hacked this year, not even amongst the current crop of high profile hacks/DDOS attacks including Sony, Nintendo, Codemasters, Bethesda, Epic, EVE Online and Minecraft not to mention US Sentate servers. There was a recent list of email addresses and passwords released by a hacking group so could it be possible that rather than Steam being hacked you were perhaps using a common password across a few providers/sites and have inadvertantly had your Steam account stolen through a third party being hacked? I've found Steam to be very reliable and secure, more so now with the Steam Guard feature they added a while ago. The Steam software is pretty robust, well featured and not intrusive and to cap it off the regular cheap game deals they runs its hard to resist using the service.

NEW TO CH PRODUCTS - NEED HELP PLEASE
Revvin replied to spn's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Using the Control Manager software you can assign any button to act as your shift button to allow for an additional command per button but to make any button your actual mode change you need to use a small ammount of scripting and that wil lgive you up to four modes (commands per button) with two shifted functions in each mode. For more help and information with your CH gear drop by the CH Hangar some time its a site dedicated to CH Products gear. -
BTW how did you fix the acrylic table top?

The stuff I used stuck like s**t to an army blanket! I nearly broke devices trying to separate the velcro, it certainly held my old HOTAS Cougar in place and does a grand job holding my current CH Fighterstick to a speaker mount I use to centrally mount my stick in front of my office chair. Thanks for posting those pictures, as a prospective buyer it helped answer some questions on the flight stick centre mount. How are you finding getting in and out of the Obutto? The reason I ask is I'm looking to ditch my current computer desk and just use an Obutto for everything, flight sims, racing sims and FPS. I worry that maybe I'm asking too much from a solution but the Obutto looks like it might serve a purpose. For racing what I thought was buy an extra flight mount and fix it to the side so that when I am using my Fanatec wheel I can unscrew the centre stick mount and place it into the spare mount on the side and just pull the wheel into position. My question now though is when I want to fly could I keep the wheel hooked up to the desk and still have enough clearance to yank and bank while flying without smashing my hands on the bottom of the steering wheel. The FPS side of my gaming I'm not so worried about as I know the keyboard/mouse tray is up to the job from talkign to other users of the Obutto but I do wonder if the wheel and central mounted stick will clash.

HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles
Revvin replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You missed the point, if you've not tried it you can't make such bold comments, if you'd said that "I've tried CH's editor and don't feel the editor that deals with scripting is as strong as program x" then thats a difference of opinion, but not having tried it you can't possibly make that statement. This discussion is going away from where it started so I'll leave it on that simple fact, your follow up post is a whole new discussion :) -
HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles
Revvin replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Its not about comparing either, the Cougar was also capable of compelx programming but when you make blanket statements about CH's capabilities without having tried the software available then as a programmer I'm sure you'll understand there is not logic to your view. If ED make an F16 sim next then the Warthog and Pro Throttle are out of luck if users want to have a close copy of the real throttle which was why in my first reply I wondered if Thrustmaster would release a standalone Cougar throttle unit. Both the Warthog throttle and Pro Throttle have been criticized a little for not having rotaries to hand like the Cougar throttle and Saitek gear, perhaps a separate USB Cougar throttle could be a nice little earner for TM. I think it was a good move for Thrustmaster to move to a proper GUI for general programming instead of the DOS legacy stuff before. -

No problem, just rebutting your comment "I don't know what CH environment offers but their editing tools cannot compete with a one that has been use for ages by professionals" its difficult to say something can't compete when you don't know anything about it. -

Revvin replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What I meant was just the Cougar throttle unit, a standalone without the sticky throttle action or rotaries that travel further than the output they give. If they could price it reasonably I think it would do well for them, but he'll what do I know, we just like getting new toys :) Well I'm not going to get into an argument over which device can do what but it does appear you have no idea what the CH Control Manager is capable of in terms of advanced scripting. -
How about using some heavy duty velcro? I once stuck a HOTAS Cougar to my desk using some I bought at a DIY store. According to the wording on the packet a 50x50mm piece of that stuff could hold 1kg of weight suspended from it.

HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles
Revvin replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
CH Scripting to me is far easier than TARGET's but maybe I'm just more familiar with CH's that uses one GUI to do simple and complex (scripting) programming of my gear. If ED come up with an F16 sim next then perhaps Thrustmaster will just re-release the HOTAS Cougar as a standalone USB device that could be combined in TARGET with the Warthog stick which is just the same as the Cougar F16 stick but with an extra button. -
Ah I wondered if it came with any kind of mounting bolts, screws, clamps etc as I would want to get one too for the extra space.
-
Nice pictures, how does the acrylic table top fix to the frame?
-
Look forward to seeing it, it will spur me on to get one :)

Yeah true, Ruggbutt has a 42" LCD mounted to his Obutto using a wall bracket bolted to the existing monitor frame IIRC. I was a little concerned that the monitor may be too far away on the Obutto as I currently use a 24" widescreen LCD but where I have my seat and racing wheel now is pretty much how far away I would be in the Obutto I think looking at the pictures online. Nice TV by the way, thanks for posting the model.

I remember trudging home in the snow from the Virgin Megastore in Cardiff with my copy of Falcon 4.0. I finished work early that day just to make sure I got to the shop before they closed due to the worsening weather. I also agree with Pilotasso that I was a little underwhelmed by Falcon 4.0 having been a huge fan of Falcon 3.0. I remember the big boxed sims and glossy manuals of the Microprose games I played on my ZX Spectrum before seeing Falcon run on a friends Atari ST. I bought an Amiga 500 to play Falcon and then a PC to play Falcon 3.0, the manuals and assorted documentation was amazing. Falcon was also the reason for me buying my first modem, a 9600 baud external modem to play online having read about competitions in Enemy Lock On magazine - a subscription only mail order magazine dedicated to flight simulators. I used to read endless AAR's from dogfights completed in competition ladders on the Head2Head BBS based in Bristol in the UK. What still amazes me is looking back then at the intro's to those older sims and the CGI scenes and being impressed by them back then and then comparing those to what we actually have now in our sims like the DCS series and IL-2, we've come a long way.

I hope to be getting an Obutto cockpit in the next few months, what model LG tv did you get? I'd be interested to hear what the quality is like compared to a smaller standard LCD monitor as I hooked my PC up temporarily to my 42" Sharp LCD downstairs and was not overly impressed by the quality but maybe I needed to spend time tweaking it for PC use.

I voted even though I'm a TrackIR user, I voted so that gamers may get a choice and perhaps we may even see some new innovation.
