  1. I'm just formatting my PC to go back to Windows 7. I've tried Windows 8 on and off since it launched and not got on with it, I thought a Windows 8.1 might change that so last week I installed Windows 8 in preparation for Thursdays 8.1 update. I thought it would give me a few days to play around and get used to Metro etc. I've been building PC's for over 20 years so it's not like I'm not used to change - from DOS to Windows 3.1 to Win 95, NT etc etc and I'm fine finding solutions to problems and updating drivers but I just got fed up with finding work-arounds with Win 8.1, driver issues, games not launching properly, the browser suddenly deciding to forget how to display pages etc, it just all got a bit too much like me spending time fixing and finding work-around rather than working or gaming. I've now got a nice fresh Win 7 install in the time it's taken to type this so with some updates tonight I'm back to a solid working platform with none of the growing pains Windows 8.1 has.
  2. Combined Arms for DCS WWII would be great
  3. Fantastic news, lots of exciting stuff to come including the map SDK, This will be such a great addition to the DCS series
  4. Congratulations on getting the project funded, I'm looking forward to seeing the alpha!
  5. 777 mentioned it on their Facebook page as Sharpe said, I'd love to see a Korean War combat sim, we've not had a decent one since Mig Alley but I'd prefer it if RRG concentrated on WWII else DCS World will just become a mish-mash of aircraft.
  6. I don't see why people are getting so upset about it, I paid full price for the Mi-8 but I've hardly used it since starting a new job but I don't feel bad its now on sale because it will tempt more people to try premium content in DCS World. I've already sent the newsletter to two friends I gifted modules to in the Steam sale and maybe they will buy some more content now.
  7. I posted that days ago, it nearly failed to get approved but I did some 'I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine' deals by approving other people's stories to get it done, if more people comment the hotter the story gets and it may appear on the front page if it already isn't deemed too old
  8. Don't know, don't care, just want my HDD full of combat aircraft :)
  9. I used to love bombing in Warbirds and Aces High and would fly them in RRG's sim if the terrain is big enough. Terrain size was one of drawbacks in IL-2 for decent medium-high bombing
  10. A fantastic price for the content available, those who don't have them should take advantage now. I've gifted friends a few pieces of content to get them into DCS World Wags> Are the databases for serial keys synced up between Steam and ED's store? I bought A-10A and SU25 on the Ed store a while ago, the SU25 key worked on Steam fine but the A-10A one says its invalid. Had the same issue with Huey until it activated on Steam today.
  11. I think it's more an issue for the helicopter combat fans out there and it's not stopped them from buying Blackshark, Huey or Mi-8. Sure it's a feature I hope ED will resolve in time but its not a deal breaker when you weigh up everything else that this WWII project has to offer.
  12. I believe Wags said they have given Steam all the codes from the ED store purchases so it should work, I've had issues with DCS A-10A and the Huey saying I had invalid codes so maybe Steams systems have not updated yet. I do like using Steam, it's my preferred method of buying and downloading games but there seems to be a bit of bumpy ride with DCS so far so I might go back to the standalone for now while ED and Steam work on these issues.
  13. This new project sounds really interesting and I can't wait to see details for the Kickstarter. My personal preference would be one large install with everything in one place rather than two installs.
  14. Has there ever been a flight simulation where every user has agreed on the flight modelling/handling/physics? I don't remember one and I've been at it since the ZX81 and Spectrum days.
  15. ED have done the best they can, they managed to get our existing keys to work through Steam but this situation with Ubisoft is stopping them from releasing FC3. I have FC3 but I want to use Steam so Ill buy the separate modules when I can, if that means ED can move on past Ubisoft/Lock-on then it's a small price to pay
  16. I guess that will be the hook to keep people buying from ED if that's the only way to play the BETA's although ARMA 2 has a beta patch optional download and other games have launched alphas and beta's through Steam, I guess that will be up to ED if they want to do that too
  17. I'm really happy to see the news today about existing customers being able to use the keys they bought on ED's store to register products on Steam. I noticed that DCS: UH-1H Huey is not yet available on Steam and wondered if this was going to be released by ED on Steam and what the future entails for third party add-ons like future Belsimtek/RAZBAM/VEAO modules will be handled for Steam users, will they be released under ED's name on Steam as DLC? Is Flaaming Cliffs 3 going to be a problem because of Ubisoft and the need to own a copy of Lock-On? I don't mind that so much as the standalone planes are pretty cheap so at least I've been able to port across the more expensive ones like Black Shark, A-10C Warthog, P-51, Combined Arms etc
  18. Thanks to the team at ED for making this happen. I can't believe that a positive move in getting exposure on Steam for the DCS series and also making it possible for existing customers to migrate to this format can be seen by some to be such a bad thing. I think some people here are being deliberately obtuse just to create controversy and bad feeling.
  19. I think the activation system remains even on Steam as Starforce is listed as a third party DRM. it would be nice if ED could just rely on Steam and do away with the Starforce activation/deactivation thing but I'd settle for just being able to register my existing keys on Steam for now :pilotfly:
  20. That's great, thanks for looking into it
  21. I hope ED can work something out with Valve so that we can register our current keys with Steam
  22. There have been some games that you could transfer, off the top of my head I recall Command & Conquer games bought viaSteam transferred to Origin and a few months ago Simbin gave all boxed DVD game owners the option to register their game keys in Steam and enjoy the benefits of that format. It's not the end of the world but I would really like to be able to register my current game keys via Steam perhaps some time in the future if ED could explore the options.
  23. I'm hoping I can transfer my purchases through the ED store onto Steam. I hope that by using Steam it might do away with the activation system currently used? I fully understand ED's need to protect their work and completely support them in that but it would be nice not to worry about deactivating/reactivating and just using Steam as the method of DRM as I've used up quite a few of my activations already as its normally the last thing I think of backing up when it comes to doing a format.
  24. The idea behind Kick Starter is to fund small indie developers, perhaps even those small independent teams doing DCS add-ons not established developers like ED and certainly not people like Chris Roberts, David Braben or Peter Molyneux who have the money to get their own projects off the ground (certainly the case with Peter Molyneux) Its because of people like that using Kick Starter that proper indie projects don't get funding. I find the idea of donating money to ED quit bizarre, 159th Viper's suggestion is perhaps more sensible, buy a few modules. You could give those modules to friends, maybe they will start playing and then in turn buy their own modules and further support ED.
  25. Yes that's the box I had, must have been the European release box cover-art.
