Turkish Airbases For Caucasus Map Update
smoking_ace420 replied to smoking_ace420's topic in DLC Map Wish List
A remastered Caucasus map could be even better than Syria or Kola Peninsula. There's more opportunity for peer-level warfare there than in Syria, and more room and opportunities for ground combat than in Kola as well. -
We really need these export versions of the fighters in this sim as using the standard Soviet model for Iraq and Syria is a major tweak needed for more historical realism. And what's up with the Mig-29 not having ECM in the sim?

Yes, but I would like it if the followed a little further behind the convoy. RedStormRising(Syria).miz

Strela and Shilka units keep over taking the armored convoys they're supposed to be protecting from air threats whenever they slow down when under fire resulting in the SAM units cutting in front of the tanks on the road and getting blown to bits by enemy units. Helicopters can do ground escort, so SAM units should be able to Escort ground units.

One thing that DCS is still lacking in since the original Su-27 series are the availability of large pre-made missions with high detail and historical realism to give the sim a more video gamey feature of being able to dive straight into flying them without having to spend literally weeks creating a mission ourselves from scratch (or maybe longer depending on how busy you are in life). They also could include the full, advanced versions of the IADS and A2A GCI dispatch scripts included in the triggers for those of us that are too lazy to learn how to code. It would really save time from having to spend 5 hours on a Saturday afternoon on making a new mission, and then weeks afterwards making various tweaks such as moving radars placed unknowingly behind a hill. The templates for the realistic locations of SAM sites and types of aircraft that are stationed at airbases for the map will also be needed, and they're already available thanks to volunteers on the DCS site. https://flyandwire.com/2020/09/23/dcs-syria-sam-sites-template-mission-by-ssg_levi/ Maybe there's money to be made as a professional mission designer for DCS players? This mission took me weeks to make, and I was still tweaking it for over a month. RedStormRising(Syria).miz

Would it be possible for a few Turkish airbases such as Merzifon and Rize to be added to the Caucasus map via the downloadable update? That way, everyone could use them without having to purchase a new Caucasus map, and no one would be left out of multiplayer. It could even be done with the same level of quality the existing airbases in the Caucasus map are made. https://minstrelboy.blogspot.com/2016/10/map-of-turkish-military-bases.html

I have been playing this sim since the original Su-27 series from Strategic Simulation back in 1997 in the Crimean Peninsula (ancient history). In all that time, I never managed to get into multiplayer, but would like to find a squadron that does missions on the Caucasus map and Syria including non-full fidelity planes from Flaming Cliffs. My main interest is late Cold War based mission done with the most realism possible including historically accurate settings for the time. Hopefully, ED will eventually include more modern stuff from the 90s in the near future.

This would make for an awesome WW2 map. Let's dive into an intriguing "what if" scenario where the Allies, after defeating Nazi Germany, turn against the Soviet Union and bomb Baku using B-29 bombers: ### Alternate Timeline: The Baku Incident #### 1945 - End of WWII: - As Nazi Germany collapses, the Allied forces (U.S., Britain, France) and the Soviet Union meet at the Elbe River. However, tensions between the Allies and the Soviet Union are already brewing due to ideological differences and territorial ambitions. - Instead of focusing on post-war reconstruction, the Allies begin to view the Soviet Union's expansion into Eastern Europe with increasing alarm. #### 1946 - Operation Unity: - Secret meetings are held among the Allied leaders in which they decide to counter the Soviet threat before it becomes too formidable. The plan, codenamed "Operation Unity," is devised to curb Soviet influence by targeting key strategic locations. - The focus shifts to Baku, a critical oil-producing region in the Soviet Union, which fuels much of the Soviet military machinery. #### 1947 - The Baku Bombing: - In a surprise move, the Allies execute a coordinated airstrike on Baku using B-29 bombers. The operation aims to cripple Soviet oil supplies and diminish their military capability. - The bombing causes significant damage to the oil fields and infrastructure, leading to immediate repercussions in the Soviet Union’s war strategy. #### 1948 - The Cold War Turns Hot: - Enraged by the attack, Stalin orders retaliation. The Soviet Union swiftly mobilizes its forces in Eastern Europe and attempts to push into Western territories. - The Allies bolster their defenses in Europe, leading to intense skirmishes along the newly established front lines. Major cities across Europe face the threat of aerial bombardments and ground invasions. #### 1949 - The Nuclear Gamble: - Fearing a prolonged and destructive conflict, both sides consider the use of nuclear weapons. The specter of nuclear war looms large over the globe. - Diplomatic efforts for peace are intensified by neutral nations, fearing the catastrophic consequences of nuclear conflict. #### 1950 - The Armistice of Vienna: - After months of intense negotiations, a ceasefire is brokered, known as the Armistice of Vienna. The agreement leads to a tenuous peace and establishes new borders in Europe. - The world remains divided, but the sheer devastation of conventional warfare and the threat of nuclear annihilation force both sides to reconsider outright war. #### Long-term Consequences: - The post-war era is defined by rapid technological advancement, driven by the military and economic competition between the West and the Soviet bloc. - Countries on both sides of the divide invest heavily in space exploration, leading to a prolonged space race. However, the global economy remains in a fragile state due to the ongoing arms race. - Humanitarian crises and displacement are rampant, with millions affected by the destruction and political upheaval. In this alternate timeline, the turning of the Allies against the Soviet Union significantly alters the course of the 20th century, leading to a more intense and immediate conflict rather than a prolonged Cold War. The world remains on edge, perpetually aware of the thin line between war and peace. What do you think of this hypothetical scenario? It's always fascinating to explore alternate histories and their potential ripple effects!

This would also be excellent for a story based on the Soviet Union deciding to lash out like a cornered animal instead of accepting defeat.
-
If we could get 90s era planes and weapons, it would also make a great 90s Cold War goes hot alternate timeline where the USSR decides to roll over East Germany Tienanmen Square style.
-
We need modern planes and weapons from the 90s for this to be a great map unless they do WW2 or early cold war stuff. Otherwise, it ends up like Falklands missing vital planes like the British version of the Harrier used in the early 80s, the excocet, and the Mirage 4's used by Argentina.

F-15 MSIP, SU-27SM, 90s Tech Weapons
smoking_ace420 replied to smoking_ace420's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I thought the F-15 received an upgrade in 1991 after the Gulf War. This is why I wanted to make a 90s mission based on someone like Putin coming to power instead of Gorbachev. -
For Cold War missions, nukes would really add a whole new dimension to creating more realistic missions. The B1B for instance only carried nukes before 1994. Without them, we can't make a genuine Cold War mission with B1Bs. I would also like to see how easy it would be for air defense to shoot down incoming B-52s like in the movie By Dawn's Early Light.

F-15 MSIP, SU-27SM, 90s Tech Weapons

I meant just high intensity conflicts between nation-states. But having PLO and HAMAS/Hezbollah units would be great for the Syria map. -
More options for the mission planner
smoking_ace420 replied to metzger's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yes, and we also need to be able to assign specific targets to individual wing men in the advanced way point actions instead of having them all attack the same target. -
The F-15 received a major upgrade in 1991 and then again in the mid 90s. It would open up a whole new world in mission making to be able to simulate mid and late 90s combat in an alternate timeline where the cold war continues into the 90s and goes hot. Add some B-2 Bombers to the mix, and we could even make a Kosovo map and simulate the Yugoslav and Kosovo civil wars. I would love to see how a 90s Su-27SM would fare against the contemporary F-15s at the time. So far, there is no way of creating a realistic mission for anything past 1991 since the sim is still almost entirely based around late Cold War planes.

One thing that's badly needed in DCS especially for the Syrian, PG and Sinai maps are the appropriate languages for the nationalities of the pilots involved in the region. Hearing an American USAF guy talking on the radio for Syrian interceptors is just wrong, and what about NATO's 2nd largest military, Turkey? And then, there's the lack of Georgian being spoken for the Caucasus missions.
