Hey guys. Have played a lot of KA50 and a little of the A10 beta, however at the moment my current PC can't run it very well. I havent really looked into Lock On with FC2, but saw the whole pack for $70...How are the graphics compared to say, DCS:10, and the requirements etc? Is it a good sim? Sim HQ seem to think so, but I always like to double check here first :) Thanks

Thanks EtherealN, as always your advise is great :-) I will follow what you guys say and just wait til it goes gold. I think if the sim gets some more optimisation I will probably be fine without an upgrade as I'm not too bothered about the glow effects etc! Thanks again, Con

Hmm, sound promising. Perhaps it's just an optimisation thing...If I could get a steady 30fps at medium graphics on final release I would be very happy. I hope with optimisation that is achievable.

Hi Killa, that is all I needed to know for no really - If it is far from optimised now (and I am reasonably happy with it now) I would excect that even a few more FPS will be much better. I have tried OCing my cpu, infact it's at 2.5ghz now, but for some strange reason if I up it anymore my internet stops working..Apparently it's something to do with the PCI Express settings auto changing!

Hi everyone, I'm quite short on money at the moment so don't have a huge amount to spend. I just had a couple of questions about a possible upgrade...Basically, I'm playing the game on high texures, with low shadows, low water, heat blur off, HDR off, 2x AA...Now I'm perfectly happy with these settings, the terrain and cockpit look great. The problem I'm having is, strange FPS dips. On the tutorial for example, I can be flying over the coast with a lot of autogen and getting a steady 45-60fps, but when I look at a particular point (usually near the airfield) it drops to about 13. When I'm on the ground at the airport I usually get about 16/17fps. Whilst this would be terrible for an FPS game, for DCS it's alright, but I was wondering...Due to the strange dip in FPS and fact that generally I get extremely smooth frame rates, is this an optimisation issue? I know the next beta release is supposed to be quite focused around optimisation, and even an extra 5fps in these areas would make the game 100x more enjoyable, is this a possibility? Secondly, if not, my specs are this.. 4GB DDR2 800mhz Geforce GTX260 876mb Intel C2Q Q6600 @ 2.4ghz 7200rpm hard drive with a lot of free space Windows 7 64bit It is well maintained and free of software bugs etc, but I think the CPU is the weakest point in terms of A-10, is that right? If so, do you think I could get a noticable performance boost from buying a new socket 775 CPU, as I don't really want to upgrade the motherboard etc due to money concerns. So I watched part of the start up tutorial a few days ago to learn how to start up the Hog. Got about 2/3 of the way through convinced it'd be easier to learn than the shark...I mean..Starting an engine by just moving the throttle...EASY! Anyway, 48 hours later and I have learned the truth and feel quite stupid! Could anybody please tell me which the best plce to start is? I am presuming navigation and the EGI system...What do you guys think? The tutorials are a great start but too fast/focused to be a particularly useful as an in depth learning tool. If somebody could maybe hint at a few areas to focus on first that'd be amazing :) Thanks

At times its definitely higher, though I'd say that's due to the altitude. The GAU-8 murders my fps though...not sure why because the graphical effects arent great!

I've found that when I unload the GAU it hits like 8fps if I fire it directly into a city! Not sure what the reason for that is...I understand its 90% my PC, but is it possible there will be any more optimisation before release? Hoping to get a few FPS mroe maybe :D

Hmm, I frequently only get about 22fps in combat...perhaps I should leave the game until I can upgrade! :(

Hey all, Just curious, I'd say the game is at the limit of what I'd consider playable on my Q6600/GTX 260..dropping at times to 16fps.. Is this way lower than most of you get? Just curious!

Hi guys, I was surfing vids of the A10 on youtube and came across this...I expect it's fake but..I've got no idea what's going on! Can anyone enlighten me? As with the title, even though it's via what looks like a shkval-esque screen it could be disturbing... Anyway, it's probably fake :D

Ahhh I spoke too soon, just found that airforce base's have much lower fps! Is most combat performed in smooth FPS zones? If so, and the FPS will only tend to take big dips at base I can up the graphics a bit...That said the game still looks great on medium, in my opinion..Though I wish I could have HDR and Heat Blur!! Also, I am playing the training mission in which I have to take off and land, I tend to ge 16-19fps on that on final approach and with certain camera angles, is that quite normal? Will the FPS get much lower than it does there? It's quite a built up area with a fair bit of water etc...I think if it goes any lower it'd be unplayable! Thanks

Quick extra question which is probably easier to answer :D in BS I pressed Alt+Enter (I think) to control the view with the mouse..This way great for start up as I don't have TIR! What's the command now? I checked the control log but can't find it!

Hey all, Got a weird one here...Is it normal for DCS A10 to run smoother than Black Shark? I bought the game today and am playing it on: Q6600 @ 2.4ghz 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram GTX260 896 And on higher video settings (at 1900-1200) the game feels significantly smoother. Could this be a result of me being one of the lucky ones (in terms of optimization with my rig, with regards to A10) and one of the unlucky ones (with respect to rig optimisation for KA50) ? Very confused about this...Though certainly not complaining...The A10 is WAY more manouverable than I expected, it is snowing heavily here too meaning tomorrow is no work..Cannot wait to lose the next 72 hours to this :D

Sorry for not doing a bit more research first guys, I should've done..Anyway, I bought the game and am currently downloading the beta, can't wait :-) Do we have a rough date for the next update, or is it a "when it's ready" thing? Con

Hey guys, Played the hell out of Black Shark now. I know the A10 isn't out yet, but what's the Beta like? Is it reasonable playable and stable? I might buy it now depending on what state the beta is in! Also, I only have a joystick (though I managed Black Shark okay with it), I presume this is a bit friendlier on the joystick only player? Cool, thank you for the info :-) Do you think I could OC my CPU even on a stock fan? It's nto very big and idles at about 38oC! My mobo has some auto overclock feature which goes up in 5% increments, but am slightly paranoid about breaking it! Think it'll really make a big difference? Couple more questions have come up that I'd been meaning to ask! First...How far away can the shark be heard in quietish conditions? I know I am way beyond the weapon range of most of my enemies most of the time, but I was curious about whether or not they're even aware I'm there. The reason I ask is because I saw a video of an Apache attacking insurgents, and they didn't even seem to be aware it was there - I'd imagine the twin turbines of the Shark are not quiet! Secondly, does anybody have a range chart of typical enemies? I'm never sure at what range it is safe to engage! Thanks :)

Hi all, I've been away from the sim a good 3 months and have just returned as RL work commitments have settled down at last! Before getting back into the sim, I am ashamed to admit that my Russian/Georgian history is a little weak (nonexistent)... Is there anywhere I could read an outline of the conflict that the campaign depicts? Other than that, I see the A-10 beta is out. How is it looking? (stupid question as it's obviously great).. Quick other question..Last time I played my PC was a wreck. I've tidied it up a lot..Specs are as follows: q6600 @ 2.4ghz, gtx 260 with 896mb video ram, and 4gb ddr2 ram @ 1066ghz (or something similar). Do you think I could enable AA and AF with this system? If so, how can I do it as there areno in game options, I presume there is an external program to force it? Thanks for any advice :) Hope you are all well!
