  1. Hey all, Another question from the persistent noobie :) Basically, I'm trying to get to grips with the data link and the shkval sensor. Am I right in thinking the DL is not just for sending data to wingmen, but also for saving target points for my own use, should I find myself solo? Secondly, if I lock a target from a distance and I am south of the target, then sneak round to the west of the target, hover up and uncage skhval then it will automatically pan to the point I have on the datalink, however it is often just off the mark meaning I cannot instantly fire. I presume this is because it is attempting to face the same coordinates but from a different angle, and as it's not a perfect system has difficulty? Is there a way to compensate, or do I just need to be quick with the slew/lock? Finally, the only way I can manage to get my skhval to auto slew to the target, is to go through a process of selecting the point I have set on the DL (Say, tank target one), disabling the sensor then uncaging it from standby. Is there a way I can make it auto slew when it is online? Uncage seems to just flick between autoscan and normal mode! Thanks very much Conure
  2. Thanks a lot - I only just noticed this reply, sorry for the delayed response!
  3. Okay, I haven't come close to mastering the Black Shark yet (Infact I haven't come close to even getting to grips with the basics), but I am extremely excited about the A10. I have also just graduated and am starting work so will shortly have a little money to put towards a new setup. If my PC runs DCS black shark just fine, do you think it's safe to presume I can probably run A10 okay too? if so, I can spend any available finance on a new cockpit. Basically, this is my current setup... Keyboard, mouse, Saitek evo force....It's not great, but it does the job (ish).. What I want is a real setup, but I'm not looking to spend a massive massive amount. I am thinking rudder pedals, a joystick (or yoke...not sure, I also like civilian flight sims but I think a joystick has more utility?), a separate throttle, and trackIR. This, I believe, will greatly enhance how realistic it feels? Can you guys recommend any decent stuff that wont cost a huge amount? Thanks
  4. Thats what I had going from flight simulator 95/98/2000/2004/X (yeah, I'm showing off now!) to an actual lesson, I actually found the real aircraft easier as you get feedback. Same as with driving versus the xbox I guess! Yuu lack an extra important sense in a sim... Btw, how did you get the time flying those things? That's incredible and I am disgustingly jealous...
  5. Hey guys, Just curious if any of you guys fly helicopters outside of the sim, military or civilian? Would love to hear your thoughts on how close DCS: BS is to a real machine!
  6. Thank you guys, I am looking forward to the future, where I can use rudder pedals, a decent stick, throttle and trackIR. I bet it's a totally new experience...
  7. Thank you! Please could somebody link me to a break down of setting a TP on the map then activating it, and cycling between them? In the manual it tells me the buttons (in Russian) which don't translate to my own cockpit! I think the manual was written a fair bit before... If anybody could explain that'd be amazing, Thank you!
  8. Hello guys, I have now watched all of the tutorial videos on youtube, and am beginning to get a bit better with the shark. What I want to be able to do now is select a target, neak up on it, pop out, take it out then get back into hiding...From what I have read and watched, is this the right process? I don't want to get into bad habits! 1: Approach target point and get a visual (from a very safe range) on an enemy 2: set enemy position as a TP on the pvi-800 3:move into covered terrain and approach target 4: pop up with a view on target and shkval will auto slew to the selected TP 5: kill enemy, hide... This saves all the rapid (inaccurate, panicked and out of control!) slewing or struggling to target enemies with the HMS (which is a NIGHTMARE with a hotas and no trackIR!), allowing me to select, say, 3 tanks in a region as TPs and then rapidly flick between them when I am in range...? I don't actually know the whole process for setting a TP yet, but am I heading along the right line with this? Am I inventing capabilities the heli doesn't have, and misreading? Thank you! p.s - is it worth dropping chafs when a tank has a lock on me? I am presuming that its shells are unguided and therefore its useless?
  9. Hahaha, half the time the FFB doesnt even work...Are Saitek always this bad, or is it just this stick?
  10. yeah checked that! i just found afew old threads, seems the evo force is just a bit crap!
  11. Hello! I am using a saitek evo force feedback pro, and I know it's far from the best FFB stickl but I'm under the impression FFB sticks with this sim should hold the stick in a position in which the trim is set? or..Something like that, is this possible with this stick? I've tried reinstalling etc but no luck! Thanks
  12. alright guys, cheers. shame the INS thing doesnt work! I'll check an online server, do they have teamspeaks or in game chat with them?
  13. Hey again, Another question! I've installed patch 1.2 and so now I can't play the tutorial style missions. I've been practising my navigation skills from the video (and have been so sad as to take notes..) but now I want to practice just locating NDBs etc. I've flown the 'how to take off and blow stuff up mission' maybe 20 times now, but STILL don't feel confident enough to try anything else. Are there any missions I can download which let my practise specifics? Also, when flying over an NDB in order to update the PVI (is it an NDB you fly over?) it says press uncage shkval - is that the same uncage shkval which usually switches the TV on, and if so, does it have a different function when in INU mode? Thanks, I know the answer to this stuff is probably in the manual, and I get most of it, but just little things sometimes confuse me a bit! I often find it easier to grasp when you guys explain it. Thanks again you great and knowledgeable people! Conure
  14. And that make it even clearer, thanks :)
  15. Cleared it up perfectly :) thank you!
  16. Strange, put it into tracks and it wont appear!
  17. Hi guys, Just a question about trim, I've watched the producers notes, spent around 15 or so hours on the sim now and read a fair bit of the manual, but STILL don't quite get the trim! Is it attached to the autopilot, for example, when I release trim the chopper often wants to keep going that way, I've found then I'm manoeuvring I need to hold and release trim every time I turn (else it spins and goes a bit uncontrollable), yet in the producers notes he says using it should be a rarity, can somebody please shed some light on this? Thanks!
  18. if only I'd started a few weeks earlier....What actually is it btw? Looks fun
  19. That link is excellent!! Thank you, I will work my way through it now.
  20. Thanks guys, that has cleared most of it up! Why is that if (hypothetically, I know I shouldn't do this) I switch off the altitude AP, then pitch the chopper down to say 40o with max collective so the chopper moves at 280km/h, if I release the trim from the position I'm holding it at (the 40o angle) it will ALWAYS pull up (as such gaining alt and losing speed)? I'd presumed initially that the shark was trying (with extreme difficulty) to maintain angle of pitch, speed and altitude (which was impossible), however I thought that if I took the altitude hold off it would maintain that angle of pitch, it doesn't! I will also go find some more articles on the trim, Cheers!
  21. Hi all, When I try to trim the shark on the pitch (using the input representation, red box thing..) if I pitch it down a lot it will ALWAYS pull back up a bit. What I think I've realised is, that (as I read a while ago) the trim on the heli is very different to that on a fixed wing. When I read it initially I thought 'yeah yeah, you'll tell me it's different but we both know it'll do exactly the same thing..' Seems I was wrong! Is the trim in anyway connected to the autopilot? I'm not totally sure how it works, despite reading up on it, which is having quite a negative impact on my ability to control the heli! Hope you guys can help! Thanks
  22. Very interesting stuff - it really adds to the immersion to know how realistic it is. I wonder much it costs to make something like this!
  23. Hi all, First of all, thanks for all the help you've given as I've started to get to grips with the fundamentals of this sim, however when I don't understand something it hugely frustrates me and I can't find the answer to this question online! I'll try to keep it as brief as possible, but what I'm trying to understand is the 'nature' of the simulator... We have, for example, a number of systems...Oil pressure, altitude, various GPS (or whatever it is called) systems, damage systems, which all seemingly work independently... Does the game run these systems as independent processes which exactly replicate the real instruments in as much as they work based on an external input that the simulator provides by means of simulated physics, or do they simply simulate what we should see? What I'm trying to ask is, are the helicopters systems independent of the data input (altitude, oil pressure etc) and do these variables (oil pressure, altitude) exist as external variables fed into the helicopters systems, and the helicopters simulated systems therefore process this data, or do these instruments work on the basis of 'real altitude is 30 metres, instrument knows this, add 3 metres for purely cosmetic simulation of a deviance'. In addition, if all these sub systems are truly independent, is it at all possible to one day load the game and have one of them fail, or does failure only occur upon damage, and the game always presumes perfect, brand new parts. Hope this has made some sense, although I think sometimes my thinking goes a bit too far.... Thanks all :)
  24. What do you mean it won't bind it?? Have you tried each axis yet?
  25. Those 2 are perfect :) Thanks
