  1. Yeah I was actually thinking the CORSAIR Hydro H70 for cooling but if I don't need that much awesome. The Power supply I tend to stay on the lower side of things also. I was planning on a 750w for like ~$120 or so. The case, hah I have a 90 lb shepard/lab mix that sheds EVERYWHERE. So that makes sense to me! I just read your EDIT too, wow. $500+ more after the conversion. Ouch. It's funny I never thought RAM would have a compatibility problem with MoBo's. I've never looked at the supported brands on a motherboard website before I purchased them. Guess I should start.. odd too because you'd think ASUS + Corsair would be pretty fail-safe in terms of compatibility. I tell you though for that price, under $1k. That is a GREAT deal, and I'd finally be in the "high-end" category also (well maybe after new video card but those are always upgradable separately from the MoBo) Thanks for your help!
  2. See that is.. Insane to me. I couldn't imagine a constant 60+ fps. And for the $330 it's not THAT much of a leap either. I don't know if this is asking too much but how much was your setup without the video card? CPU, MoBo, RAM, Power Supply, Case.
  3. @EtherealN I've always built myself mid-range systems. My Q6600 is doing okay for the moment but I definitely have to play with my settings to get it to run the way I want. I would LOVE to just max everything out for once with a flight sim. My thoughts were that the 2500 would be a considerable upgrade from my current setup at a very* reasonable price. You are happy with the 2600k I'm assuming?
  4. Hey guys and gals, I saw today that newegg has the new 1155 socket i7's and i5's. Is it just me or does a $209 core i5 at 3.3Ghz (turbo 3.7Ghz) Seem REALLY, REALLY cheap? Even the i7 2600k at $330 (3.4Ghz and 3.8GHz turbo) seems like a great deal. When do you think the 1155 motherboards will be showing up again? Also, the 2600 and 2600k, what's the $20 difference for? Same goes with the 2500 and 2500k. I might have to jump on these I won't lie. Thoughts?? :geek:
  5. Thanks. I tweaked the color on some of them yes. But it's close to that kind of blue out here some days. Still getting used to it myself I'm from NY.
  6. Here are some shots that I took from a recent airshow in Las Vegas. Hope you Like!
  7. I would go with an SSD hands down. It not only improves in game FPS (no stutter from loading scenery) but improves EVERYTHING else in Windows as well. Load times are faster, no more defragging, quick boot times. I saw a 30-40% increase in performance when I upgraded.
  8. Thank you! I just set up A-10c the other day with my dual monitor setup and was wondering if there was something similar to it with Black Shark. Gunna set this up when I get home tonight (If Beta6 doesn't come out!) Yay Friday nights! One question, in options.lua, is the name of the multimonitorsetup "camera+ABRIS+Shkval" what you named the first .lua you created?
  9. P.S. anyone know of a good app so I can view these threads on my iPhone?
  10. Beta7? If that interview is at all correct, the next release will probably be Gold.
  11. So I got the OCZ SSD, only to find out my nforce 680i LT MOBO doesn't support AHCI. I'm not sure how big of a deal that is but almost everything I've read says to set up an SSD with AHCI instead of IDE for the SATA port. :( I also read somewhere that in order for TRIM to be used properly by windows 7 it had to be configured using AHCI. Does anyone know how big a deal that is, or if there is any validity to that? (I've already played BETA 4 and there is a HUGE difference already.) Even allowed me to up my resolution to 1680 x 1050. I guess my HDD was a bigger bottleneck than I thought ;)
  12. haha @ EtherealN. Yeah I'm not sure I'd go with the G310 also. Your built in video from the MOBO might be just as good. I have a ATI 5770 and I'm quite happy with it. I think my bottle neck is just my Q6600 (as I have it at stock 2.4Ghz) so I get some major slowdown (firing the cannon at low altitude I drop to about 2 fps!) Also a video card with at least 1GB of memory would probably help with a sim also considering you're constantly swapping out scenery.
  13. Thanks all for the replies. That deal on the second post was almost too good to pass up. I have DCS: Black Shark, DCS: A-10c, and FSX that I'm going to try and fit on the 120g OCZ. Oh and Win7 64-bit of course. If I have to only have 2 installed at once so be it. Usually when I'm playing DCS I'm not into FSX so much anyway. Can't wait to see the improvement! Gets here tomorrow =)
  14. Are SSDs going to be dropping in price anytime soon or is there a new generation on the horizon that I should wait for? I'm getting jumpy not having one and I only hear good things about them. But $250 for 120 Gig?? :helpsmilie:
  15. I concur, this really is a fantastic sim. It brings me back to the days of Jane's Combat Simulations when I used to bring the literature into school with me and read up on all the systems. I just wish I had a better computer to really get the most out of the beautiful graphics! Thanks ED
  16. Hi all, I've made up my mind about purchasing an SSD and I only have one concern remaining. It's the SLC vs MLC choice. I read a few reviews on both, apparently SLC is no doubt better but WAY more expensive. And after reading a review on the OCZ vertex 2's they seem to run circles around the WX velociraptor. I'm still on a conventional 7200rpm drive so I'm thinking the 120Gb OCZ vertex 2 will be a HUGE upgrade for me without the need for an SLC drive. Also SLC has a much greater lifespan which had me concerned.
  17. So I'm in a little bit of a Dilemma. My computer seems to be nearing it's end. I love flight simulators but my machine chugs with FSX and even BlackShark. I'm running a Q6600 2.4 GHz with a Radeon HD5770, 6 gigs of 800MHz Ram, Win7 64-bit and a terrible old Hard drive. SATA 320GB 7200 rpm. I'm not even sure of the brand it's not a WD caviar black though I know that. Here's the reason I'm posting in this thread, the HD. Do you guys think I am being bottle necked by my hard drive (Both my OS and games are on this drive) with these simulations? And if so, would it pay for me to upgrade to a SSD and keep the 320GB as storage or just get a new system? I mean obviously it would fix everything if I got an i7 system but would it be a waste for me to get a SSD on my current Q6600 setup? Or can it possibly improve my experience with these mentioned sims for a lot less money than a new rig? I can purchase a new i7-950 system for about $1k. Or I get get a SSD for $200 (SLC I'm guessing from what I've read) Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys!
  18. I don't have this system currently no. I have a Q6600 also and I'm looking to upgrade myself. I'm not sure whether to go with an 1366 i7 or something a little cheaper like a 1156 i5 build. I really like the build that I posted for you but it's getting to be a bit over my price range. If anyone knows any shortcuts I can take that would be much appreciated. I don't really plan on overclocking so I'm never really sure which hardware is worth the money or where I can save since I'm not OCing. Also is it even worth upgrading right now? Will I experience a huge jump from a quad core Q6600 2.4Ghz to an i5 or i7? Current system: Q6600 6 GB 800Mhz Ram Radeon 5770 1 GB Win 7 64-bit
  19. I saw this "combo" and seemed similar to what you were looking for. Lower clock speed on RAM (1600MHz) and not the Rampage III mobo either. Seems like a pretty solid package though. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.518975 -i7-950 -6 gig corsaire dominator 1600 mhz ram -sabertooth x58 mobo -900w 80 plus gold certified power -WD caviar black 1 TB harddrive
  20. Hey all, I was just wondering if Saitek.com still exsisted or if its temporarily down. I was trying to download the Profiler for my x-52 (not Pro) controls. If it is no longer up, does anyone know where I can get the latest drivers? Thanks
  21. I cannot wait until the A-10C module is released. I don't spend much money on video games (possibly because I work on them for a living,) but I purchased DCS: Black Shark and I plan on buying every module after. This type of simulation has always been why I love PC games/simulations over consoles, and I haven't seen one this good since Longbow 1 & 2. Keep up the good work everyone, and you've got at least one fan here that will gladly spend the $ to keep you going!
