  1. Hey guys, I finally purchased my i5-2500k. I got an ASRock Mobo, 8g 1600Mhz G.Skill RAM, 650W 80 Bronze PSU, 128GB OCZ SSD. So now I'm stuck on a video card. I'm asking on this forum because DCS titles are really the reason I'm upgrading in the first place. That said, I hear a lot that on-board video memory isn't a big deal if you're only running a game 1920x1080p, but I was wondering if that is the case with DCS/ or any flight simulation titles. I was thinking of keeping my HD5770 1gb and waiting for the HD 7850/7870 to come out in March, or just getting a 6950 2gb card now. I don't want to spend over $260 though, so I'm not looking to get a GTX 580 or HD 7950. Those of you who have more than 1gb video memory, does it make a difference? Especially if I might want to run an MFD or two on a separate monitor? Thanks for your time
  2. chinaiyf, Have you thought about OC'ing your CPU? I only ask because I was running an Intel Q6600 @2.4Ghz for about 3-4 years. I then bought an aftermarket cooler and cranked it up to 3.0 - 3.25 Ghz and it made an enormous difference. The overclocked CPU and an HD5770 is still able to run things fairly smooth on my system even now. Although I did just bite the bullet and purchase an i5-2500k. ;)
  3. Still my one major gripe with DCS engine. The terrain is sooo out dated. I can't wait for EDGE.
  4. I stand corrected good sir. this SIM.
  5. I was going to post this question until I came up on this thread. I've always used the speed brakes to get that little bit of extra time lining up my target. But this does makes sense. I can't believe the level of detail put into this game, it still boggles my mind. DCS series = best thing to come along in the flight sim world, ever, in my opinion. Can't wait for P-51D!
  6. +1  I totally agree ED should have re-worked the engine to make add-on modules work a lot easier. Might have been possible to do with only 2 planes (BS + A-10C) or a lot easier at least. But after P-51D and US Fixed Wing Fighter, we might as well forget that possibility. As far as the P-51D choice, I think it's awesome. The more variety the better :) EDIT: Also if ED really wants to broaden their customer base, making these modules more user-friendly wouldn't be a bad start also. It really is a pain patching different games, uninstalling them, re-installing them, downloading different torrents. Have ONE engine. Add-on aircraft. DONE. Money well spent IMO.
  7. Not sure if anyone else has tried this but, I was just able to uninstall the 1.02 patch from BS1 instead of the whole program. So there was no need to re-install version 1.0. Hope this helps someone save some time!
  8. For everyone complaining about the extra upgrade cost. It's perfectly reasonable to charge for that amount of additional work. Look at Blizzard as an example. Or any company that creates downloadable content. THEY ALL cost money. Some just add new campaigns, some just add new maps, some just add new weapons. This upgrade adds compatibility, more map area, better graphics, and a TON of tweaks. And for $20 (I'm assuming everyone complaining owns BS1) it's a steal compared to how much you play. I've paid for all ED's products, and still I've managed to blow more money in one night on coronas. ED has given me hours upon hours of entertainment. I for one, paid $14 A MONTH! for WoW, and I'll be paying monthly (at least for a while) for StarWars: Old Republic. We're trying to keep this simulation genre going, and if it's paying $20 for some great downloadable content, that's the least I can do.
  9. I wonder if you can try it out in FC2. Su-25T has SEAD capabilities, so set up a mission with an SA-10 and try your luck... I think I might try after work actually.
  10. Would a SEAD mission even help with an SA-10? I mean, what is the typical range of our anti-radiation missiles? Would you even be able to get one off before you're already tracked and fired on?
  11. Ah ok, that is different that what I've seen. Luckily I haven't dealt with that problem. But yeah I will try and post a pic and see what you guys think about the artifacts I'm seeing. Glad you were able to resolve your issue though ;)
  12. Just curious, what are you all referring to when you mention "tearing." There is an odd effect when I play FC2 & DCS:BS that looks like a vertical ring around my aircraft in the distance. Vertical lines almost. Would that be what you are experiencing? Thanks

If you read his blog you can really see how much attention to detail there is. Everything from radar systems to cold starts in the dark. I think this is going to be one to look out for.
  14. Well said sir. Although the game might include these aircraft, EA said that you will be able to customize your aircraft for whatever you see fit. If you want to make it all A2A with flares and what not, you can equip it that way, if you want A2G you can have that. So in essence, you can have a dedicated air superiority fighter.
  15. Wow, that updated cockpit is intense. Do you guys see a possible future for DCS Su-25KM one day? So much like the A-10A to A-10C upgrade.
  16. Hey, I was just playing some FC2 again, I've never actually tried out the Su-25 advanced flight model so I figured I'd give it a go. Anyway, I was you tubing some stuff and thought I came across a video of an Su-25T in action. But the HUD looks different in the video compared to the HUD in FC2. Is this vid even of a Su-25T? or another aircraft? and here is the HUD in FC2: [EDIT] - also, how do you embed a youtube video?
  17. Not much of a reason to not wait anymore, considering they fixed the power hit when switching from APU generators to the main Left & Right Generators. It no longer resets alignment. So the moment you get the APU up and APU Gen on, you can start the aligning process, then ask permission for engine start and move forward. But I'm curious also about the warning light by not aligning fully. Haven't taken off without aligning fully.
  18. Doesn't the x in the pipper mean unsafe to drop? It's a dot before you get too low.
  19. What kind of lord doesn't even have any new, interesting information about patches/release dates/new DCS modules?
  20. Cali you still running the setup in your sig? If so, I'm running something similar, just have it OCed. The game actually plays ok to be honest with you, but I've been so tempted since sandy bridge came out because of how cheap it is. The Q6600 to a i5 2500k would be very noticeable I think.
  21. ... Son of a gun. Nice one.
  22. I know I know, I'm just sayin I got excited when I saw it that's all. Thought the testers always had the latest build (with new terrain engine and all,) and I thought I caught you making a mistake and uploading a vid of it by accident. Not that it's really even a secret so I wouldn't matter. I'm just bored at work to be honest with you.
  23. They're scared they leaked the new map :megalol:
  24. Yes sorry I meant 3.4 I edited that. And you're right just like overclocking RAM speed wouldn't really matter for games either. But for the OP's purpose, and gaming in general, the new sandy-bridge is a no-brainer. (I'm not waiting for anything besides to stop traveling and actually spend my money on a new PC.)
  25. i7 990X Extreme @ 3.46GHz, 130W -$999 i7 2600K @ 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo), 95W - $314 Better CPU for less, why wait?
