Yes, that's the plan since there aren't really any single card solutions that quite do it for 3 monitor gaming anyhow... Besides, I don't only play sims. Eyefinity is ok, but Crossfire is not. ATI doesn't seem to have enough horsepower to really make 3 monitor gaming comfortable.
-
I gave the portrait configuration a try, but ATI/AMD's drivers made it very difficult to get all 3 monitors to be portrait at the same time. It just didn't work out very well and I went back to landscape mode. It gives me a better field of view this way anyhow. I'm regretting having gone with ATI this round. I'm pretty sure I'm going to upgrade to Nvidia cards in the new year, and I'll use this ATI card for my HTPC.

You're probably GPU limited right now, and no matter how fast you push your CPU, you won't see a change in framerates.
-
I'd go with the 570. You can always add another 570 later on in SLI for more power. Two 460s in SLI is great right now, but leaves you no room for upgrades in the future.

Those voltages are a lot better. I don't think it's good to exceed 1.65v for RAM. So those temps are your stress load temps? If so, they're quite good. Mine get just over 70C at 4.0ghz and 1.25v + vdroop.

A release right before Christmas would be fantastic!
-
Wow. Those are high voltages. It's strange how much i7s vary.
-
What are your voltages for your CPU and RAM and what's your clock and timings for your RAM? My i7 is running a stable 200x20 without any problems.
-
That's very strange indeed. What revision of the 920 do you have? The C0 or D0? On my D0 I can pretty much get to 3.5ghz simply putting all settings on auto and boosting the blck to around 175. If I want to get to 4.0ghz I need to tweak the memory timings and voltages too. When things get unstable, try bumping up the voltage. I can't remember what was giving 3.5ghz, but it was under 1v. Probably something like .95v. Not all 920s clock as well as others. You may not have been lucky and good a good overclocker.

What kind of displays and what resolutions do you plan on running on the videocard? 1+GB is typically recommended for resolutions above 1920x1200 and for those who plan on using high quality textures and anti-aliasing.

Well this is just worse than all of the previous ones. This just broke everything for me. -
TrackIr software for Win7 64 bit games
RSharpe replied to joker62's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh let's hope this one works! -
It all depends on what your CPU can do and what temperatures you're comfortable with. They say to keep below 1.4v on a 920. I give mine enough voltage to remain stable at a given clock, and no more. My 920 D0 and uses 1.216v to run 4.0ghz stable using air cooling and it maxes temperature at around 72C on full load using Prime95. I've noticed a huge difference between the stock 2.66ghz and the overclocked 4.0ghz on DCS A-10C

TrackIr software for Win7 64 bit games
RSharpe replied to joker62's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Doesn't work for me. Tracks within the TIR software, and both lights remain on in DCS A-10C, but there's no response whatsoever. -
Is there any way to confine the training text (And radio dialog for that matter) to the center monitor on a 3 screen Eyefinity set up? Right now, the text wraps from the center to my right side monitor. Since I'm using bezel correction, the text is also disappearing behind the bezels. Is there some sort of fix where you can tweak how this text is displayed? Thanks.

I haven't been able to experiment with tweaking the settings yet or take FPS readings, but I seem to be getting OK framerates with 3 screens running at low settings, except for textures on high. I was running on high with only 1 screen and the experience seemed to be similar. Hopefully, with when the game is finally optimized for performance, things will improve some. I am settled on a video card upgrade next spring anyhow. Loz, does is there a video performance overhead when using bezel management? I just did this quick and dirty setup last night as both new monitors and the HOTAS arrived yesterday afternoon.

1. Sapphire ATI 5850. A bit underpowered, but I'm going to stick with it until I see what new cards become available early next year. No point in upgrading now before I know what my choices can be in just a few months. I met get a triple monitor stand later. 2. Intel Core i7 @ 4.0 ghz, 6 GB triple channel DDR3 RAM at 1600 mhz, Gigabyte X58A-UD3R, Sapphire ATI 5850, 3 x 24" 1920x1200 monitors (1 LG 246WP, 2 Dell U2410), TM Warthog HOTAS, Track IR4, Logitech G35 headset.

TM Warthog diagnostic program?
RSharpe replied to RSharpe's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the reply. I'll check all of that stuff out tomorrow. I tried using Windows 7 controller, but I wasn't about to access the HOTAS as I normally can other gaming devices. I'll check again to see if it might be buried somewhere else. -
I just received my TM Warthog HOTAS in the mail and I set it up tonight so I'm new to this. I was wondering if there's a diagnostic program somewhere so you can test the functionality of all of the buttons and switches outside of the actual game. The manual that it came with actually contains very little information. Thanks.

The Dell monitors are IPS monitors and are much nicer than the LG, which is MVA. When I'm computing most of the time I prefer using the Dells. Anyhow, the wiring is a bloody mess down there, but I don't spend much time under my desk looking at the wires. The monitors are all 24" 1920x1200. I'm surprised that this 5850 can run DCS ok for now. I'll upgrade to a more powerful card(s) next year once the new generation of cards come out from Nvidia and AMD.
-
Today was an interesting day. My TM Warthog HOTAS and my two Dell U2410 monitors arrived by mail today and I just finished getting myself set up. Now, all I have to do is spend many many hours trying to figure out how everything works! I haven't even had a chance to set up Eyefinity properly yet.
-
This is fantastic. I'm having a lot of trouble remembering the startup sequence and having this on my notebook next to me will really help. Thanks!
-
I think Crossfire won't work outside the family of chips, but they can work within the equivalent family, even if the pairing is not optimal. I believe the two cards will default to the lowest card. So for example, a 5850 will work with a 5870, but the two would work like a pair of 5850s while in Crossfire mode.
-
So you're getting good results with 480 SLI and running 3 screens? I'm thinking of 580s but I think Nvidia cards are more finicky about monitors. I have on 1920x1200 screen, but it's out of production and I was thinking of picking up two more Dell U2410s. However, I hear that Nvidia is picky and there might be issues if all three monitors aren't identical in spec. Did you have any problems getting Nvidia Surround to work?
-
We'll see. Since both Nvidia and AMD are releasing a bunch of new high end cards in the next few months, I'm going to hold off for now. Doubtless there will always be better hardware released, and new releases will only drive down prices for the old cards. I wonder when the DCS code will be finally optimized.
