New PNY GTX 580 Graphics card
RSharpe replied to badaboom's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I really want to get away from AMD. The drivers are software are so consistently poor. There are all sorts of little things that remain broken such as the stupid Displayport auto-dedection in Windows and constant crashing with Flash video. However, AMD's new 6900 series cards seem better suited to gaming in beyond 1920x1200 with their 2GB/GPU specs and ability to run different monitors as long as the resolutions match. I have 2 Dell U2410s and 1 LG L246 right now that work fine in Eyefinity. I need more GPU for 3 screens though. I would love to go back to Nvidia, but their Surround solution seems too half-baked, like an afterthought. -

My problem with Nvidia SLI in surround is the need to have 3 identical monitors... With Eyefinity, you can at least mix and match different monitors, as long as they`re the same resolution. With Nvidia, you need them to have the exact same refresh rates at the same display modes, as well as sync polarity. -
EVGA Superclocked GTX 570...
RSharpe replied to Atomic978's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It would help if you guys mention the resolutions you're running at, since everyone has different monitors. -
Well obviously the two 5870s in Crossfire is tons more GPU power than one 470, but he's also running Eyefinity, which is pushing a lot of pixels.
-
It could be that you two just have different standards since you just got your upgrade, or you guys are running different settings and missions. You won't see much difference between those two systems. Even stock, his CPU is only 270mhz slower than yours with turbo boost. Plus his 5870 is slightly faster than 470.

I got serious flickering above a T-55 on my TGP as I was passing overhead while zoomed in. I noticed that when I zoomed out a bit that the flickering stopped, but when I zoomed back in, the flickering started up again. This was using Beta 4

I used to play this mission quite a bit in Beta 3, but I haven't been able to play it since doing a clean install of Beta 4. When I get ready to FLY in the mission, I get a "Player: Invalid 124 MHz frequency continue?" error and a crash, and then the sim starts up in the startup training mission. Has anyone else been able to get this mission working?

TrackIR 5.1 software released, with 64-bit support
RSharpe replied to Moa's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm using Track IR 5.1 Beta 2 right now. Has anyone noticed that the TIR software has problems detecting the device? It sometimes recognizes it again when I unplug and replug the device in its USB slot, but never immediately upon startup. Am I the only one with this problem? -

Unless, like me, you're sick and tired of ATI/AMD's constant driver and software issues. -
Guides are exactly that. They're guides. They're not bibles with rules written in stone. They get you in the park, and get you thinking about what you need to think about, but you need to do a lot of the work yourself. For those who cannot bother working on it, they should hire someone to do it for them, and buy a custom built system with bin selected components.

which video cardshould I upgrade to?
RSharpe replied to egorter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey it's your money. $310 for a 470 or $350 for a 570. The 570 performs like a 480, only cooler. Obviously the 480 is faster than the 470. -
Anyone running a single 6970 Eyefinity
RSharpe replied to WynnTTr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Too much monitor for a card not really built for the purpose. -

That's too much money for an obsolete card. For $50 you could get the much better 570 from a cheaper retailer. -
Anyone running a single 6970 Eyefinity
RSharpe replied to WynnTTr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I wondering if it's really enough horsepower. Frankly I think you'll need at least two 6970 to do the job across 3 X 1920x1200. I'm moving to 580s in SLI in the new year. -
Video 1 is fantastic. I need some help though as I'm not quire sure how to clear markpoints after you're done with one run and would like to reset for a second? Does anyone have some advice? THanks

I now use pinky+TMS up/down to zoom in and out from the joystick. I also have zoom in and out mapped on two buttons on my mouse as well. -

Maybe I missed it, but what is the serial number of your HOTAS? I'm just wondering if there's a batch problem. -
Does anyone have images of the various skins available in the sim?

I've not had much experience with the sim yet, but I got some decent screenshots of a bomb drop today. -
That's also a lot of bezels.

Make sure you have enough voltage. Sometimes I've been able to set the clocks high, and the computer is stable enough to boot up, but will start to stutter when processing if it's not getting enough voltage. This is very noticeable when hyperthreading is on.
