  1. Insulting me isnt really the best way to go is it? Not a friendly, community based approach is it? Look we all have different levels of what we want to get out of these sims, first and foremost they are meant to be FUN, if I want to learn ALL the ins and outs of flying a helicopter I will go do it in the real world. Sims are supposed to let you do things you CANT in the real world. And I WASNT looking for a shortcut, I was just looking for some easy to follow starting tips to reduce my frustration whilst I try to learn, which UncleStains and yourself provided, although the former didn't include unnecessary attutude
  2. Cheers, some actual directions I can follow. I know I just need to practice but its not always easy, the choppers are the Dark Souls of DCS
  3. Yeah I know, its just frustrating, most aspects of DCS are set procedures, click this then click that...set speed to this to do that but actually flying choppers are all on 'feel' and 'instinct'.
  4. None of these videos are helping me slow down to a hover without leaping 200ft in the air. They keep saying 'balance cyclic and collective' but to be honest that advice is useless to a novice
  5. Yeah, you right...I never was great with choppers in older sims and games so its no surprise I'm struggling in a study level sim
  6. Not regularly and I ust cant seem to do anything smoothly, and my gear is the Warthog HOTAS, my curves are around 25 for each (based on Grim Reapers control setup video)
  7. Well i do have the AH-6J and UH-1M mods or should I use a 2 week trial for one of the ED chopper modules?
  8. Yeah I my elbows are supported. As I said above I know i need to learn more but im not sure where to start exactly
  9. So I am having real trouble with slow flight and hovering, when ever i try to slow down to hover I just climb and the chopper pitches up and down like crazy when i try to use the cyclic and torque pedals and the speed seems to jump back up again. I theorize there are 3 possible reasons for this: 1) The Apache is a really hard bird to fly at slow speeds/hover and I just need to practice a bit more. 2) The Apache is easy to fly at slow speeds/hover and I am a complete, unskilled moron who needs to just practice for many, many hours 3) I am not a complete moron but I do need to make major adjustments to my controls as I am making things harder than they need to be. But whatever the correct answer is I need some guides that really break it down for me so I can find out which of the above is correct
  10. Yup, I cleared all the axis and buttons and reassigned and it worked, so i did have a conflict somewhere. Thanks for the help
  11. So I am trying to assign a control for moving the TADS cursor but what ever I assign, be it an axis or a 4-way switch I cant get smooth motion, the actual button in the cockpit keeps jumping back to centre when i move it and the cursor screen stops when ever it does this? These axis and 4 ways work fine in the side MFDs so I'm not sure what is wrong I am assuming I have a control setting screwed up somewhere but I have no idea what
  12. Thats it...only had it assigned in the George menu. Got it working now. cheers mate
  13. So I assigned George to the 4-way + push button on my Warthog stick, with the push set for show/hide. But for some reason it wont show George. The keyboard command works fine and i can use the direction buttons assigned to control George but I can't show/hide, I tried assigning a different button on my throttle but that didn't work either. Is this a known issue or have i just borked something?
  14. So I have the Hornet, Tomcat, Super Carrier, Strike Eagle, Apache, Warthog, Fishbed, Sabre and Spitfire. Now I see on youtube plenty of tutorials for DCS but I was hoping for some recommendations for the above modules? Right now I mainly use Grim Reapers videos but wouldnt mind checking out others
  15. Yeah, I understand better now, I just need to put in some hours to get used to flying a helicopter
  16. First full fidelity one at least, been flying various chopper sim/games since Gunship 2000
  17. Aah I see, that wasnt the collective...so one more dumb question, where do i note how much collective I have input? Is there a display in the cockpit or hud somewhere?
  18. Yes Yes, but like I said it does seem smooth or in sync with throttle movement Yes No Not tried yet Yup
  19. But the training mission clearly states collective percentages for taxiing and take off...am I missing something?
  20. So ive just started trying to learn to fly the Apache but I am having an issue that im not sure if its me, my throttle or the nature of the bird. Anyway I have the collective assigned to one of my throttle axis, which are locked, but ingame the collective number % on the hud never seems to match the physical position, the numbers jump up and down by 10 or 20 as I move it and sometimes it just doesnt seem to register the movement, i.e. pushed all the way but still showing 60%. I have noticed in jets the % does move a bit by 1 or 2 but nothing like the Apache, so is this a hardware setting issue, a me skill issue or just how the real Apache collective works?
  21. Oh and exactly the same thing happened with the JSOW training mission, dropped the first 2 and nothing EDIT: And I just tried the Apache take off training and as soon as I tried to take off the cyclic went crazy...it works fine in free flight
  22. Ok I am still having issues with the training not proceeding, Im on the JDAM mission, i input the GPS co-ords, dropped 2 bombs when 'in zone' as told, both hit 2 buildings and destroyed 2 trucks but the training did not move on to the next part. Tried it twice and nothing, what do i need to do to move the training on?
  23. Ok so ive managed to set up some custom snap views but is there are way to make them stay in the view without holding the button? Like a toggle? Only its a bit useless if you are trying to manipulate the screen while keeping the snap view button pressed (mine is on the same hand as my mouse)
  24. My favourite plane is the F-4 so maybe I should wait for that and let my love for the plane overcome any issues I may have. As for my history on sims I am definitely an enthusiastic amateur, been flying since Strike Eagle 2, Dogfight and Gunship 2000 on the Amiga, bought Fleet Defender, Falcon 4.0 (but couldn't run it on my PC) and loved Janes Navy Fighters, USAF, DIs Apache/Hind/F16, I've also owned alot of WW2 sims and MS Flight Sims but never really went study level with any of them. Its annoying as I'm at that age when modern multiplayer games are full of annoying children and modern single player games are often bug filled or MT filled and are too short. DCS seems to be a platform where the devs know what they are doing (mostly) and have very talented third parties working for them but even after 30 years of various flight sims games its still very intimidating to get started on...its almost like taking a course at a college or university...which is also a scary thought for someone a few years from 50
