yup DCS legacy era has a huge void without the F4 phantom. I personally want an F4E from the 70s ( with its wing slats) since would have the internal gun and overall the most versatile too, as well as being the most exported of the variants. But tbh at then and of the day any phantom will do.
I agree. An F-4E Block 48 (which has slats, TISEO and AGM-65A capability :)) would fit the most scenarios. It flew combat missions in Vietnam, with Iran, Israel and was loved by pilots who used to fly the hard-wing Phantom. It could even be used in Desert Storm scenarios.
And I would also fly any Phantom, but I feel that the above version is the definitive variant.

I'm down! I'm still in the process of moving and getting internet at my new place but send me a PM.
I should be back online after work hours by next week. GMT -5hrs (ET US).

I love how this thread never dies. It's been almost two years of us spamming for this legend! :megalol:

i think the radar uses the doppler effect, so the capability of accquisition depends on the relative velocity between the radar and target, where at a low relative velocity the target is harder to detect.
I believe all radar sets use the doppler effect to a degree. Only the as-advertised pulse doppler radars actually use the doppler effect as a filter. Let me explain:
Radar uses light waves and because light waves move from the radar into the air, they change 180 degrees in phase upon incidence with a medium of higher density (an aircraft).
It stands to reason that if an aircraft is beaming the detecting aircraft, the phase change of some of the reflected light will destructively interfere with the incident light (see diagram below). When an aircraft is moving away or towards the detecting radar however, the doppler effect causes a frequency shift in addition to the phase shift from reflection. Therefore, the crests and peaks of the reflected and new incident waves do not line up and cannot completely destructively interfere.
Of course, this is negating the effect of wave modulation which is how most modern radar sets avoid this problem as well as jamming and interference from other friendly emitters. Modern pulse doppler radars actually use the doppler effect to filter out anything with a frequency shift smaller than a certain threshold whereas older radars do not have this capability.

When the spitfire is slower then his alternatives and adversaries by 50 kmh and more you cant callthe plane a successful design with a serious face. its crap.
I'll definitely have to call the F-86 unsuccessful then because it was subsonic during the wars it fought in the 1960's. I'm just going to forget about the fact that it fought in the Korean war in 1950.
I'll also forget that the Spitfire XIV could catch up to a 109K at most altitudes and out maneuver it and fly further despite it entering service way before the 109K.
I'll forget that the Spitfire IX was built specifically to win parity with the Fw 190A which it did (thereby succeeding in its primary role).
You win.

I cant help but think... spitfire is a failed design. its just too slow. If it was designed like somethin similar to a yak3 but with that 1700 hp engine... it would go ~590 kmh instead of 530 at ground level. It simply cannot compete with 40-50 kmh deficit against similar planes.
That's quite a bold statement. The Spitfire is the epitome of a successful design with over 22,000 built and with an adaptable airframe that could do a lot and be modified endlessly.
Recall the Spitfire XIV entered service in January of 1944, well before the P-51D, P-38L and at a similar time as the late 109G models. It is very fast indeed. The Mk. IX is a 1942 aircraft although our example is an uprated one. There a lot of Mk IX's around late in the war so they were just upgraded.
Saying the Spitfire is a failed design because an older version is what we have takes all that out of context. It's like saying the F-15 is a failed design as a modern fighter because it isn't a stealth aircraft.

Forgive me if I haven't searched hard enough but I do not see the Spitfire in my Kickstarters backed projects section.
See the attached image. I don't see the option to "request Key". My computer's been very uncooperative so I can't embed the image from imgur.
EDIT: NEVERMIND I'M SILLY I FOUND IT. DCS E-shop page. Derp.

Okay so I'm starting to think it's not just Raptr, but my actual DCS loading sequence.
Whenever I join an MP server, I first see the regular loading screen and then the map. After the map, I see the following two screens. The first one is always light blue, as if I'm zoomed into the sea on the map. Raptr is still on (see first attached image).
I stare at this screen for about 3 minutes and then this one appears for about 5 seconds (see second attached image) which is when Raptr disappears.
After the second screen, I am shown the regular aircraft selection menu at which point Raptr remains off. Are these loading screens normal?
-
Perhaps it's a driver thing?
I'll see if the guys at the Raptr forums might know and I'll post if I get a solution.
In the meantime, if anyone else has a solution, let me know :)
-
Yes, I have updated to 1.5. Still stumped.
-
Couldn't find any threads on Raptr turning itself off so I made a new thread. Sorry if it's been covered elsewhere.
Can't seem to find the exact problem anywhere else, but when I start DCS, Raptr says it's "turning on" and it manages to do so after a few seconds. Then it works normally, telling me my frame rate and my recording hotkey combo.
However, if I enter an MP server, all of that disappears and I cannot turn it on. This obviously leaves me unable to capture my missions as there's no way to reactivate it.
Is there any known solution to this?

Thanks for the competition, 104th, and great screens so far, everyone! I hope you like the screen :)

I want to go to Las Vegas! :)
Thanks!

My first PvP guns kill flying the F-15 in DCS 1.5 :) I had to get shot down many times for this one kill, though!
And a nice Galm Team screenshot too:

Has anybody checked the Aim7 lately? My wingy and I did 14 month ago. We figured that even the AIM/ had a better PK then any other er27 in the "sim". That is my reason why i Quit flying fighter at the moment although I love it. I am waiting for a good Su27 that has proper missiles which work correct or close to the real deal. Or I am waiting for the f18c.
I use the AIM-7 and AIM-9 1980's loadout almost exclusively online, regardless of what weapons the other team may be packing.
So far, slightly less than half of my AIM-7s have hit their targets, with only one Su-27 having no idea I was there (Belly shot, rear aspect) since DCS 1.5.0, and I played once yesterday with no discernible difference in AIM-7 tracking noticed. Almost every AIM-7 shot was fired from under 10,000' and under ~8nm ranges. When I'm flying, I can't afford to fly high once in the combat zone. An F-15 carrying only AIM-7s and AIM-9s has to be hidden in order to get the kill against 1990's weapon-armed F-15s, Flankers and Fulcrums.

I'm not sure if my problem is the same as OP's, I do not fully understand what "abris" or "ekran" mean.
I want to make my Su-27 cockpit symbology in Cyrillic but I can't find the option. Rrohde, are you saying your Su-27 cockpit is in Russian? My HUD is all in English but I find only a "default" option under the "Special" tab for FC3 cockpits.
-
Nevermind, I found it. I started DCS 1.2.x Multiplayer and help down the Shift button and was then prompted for activation. I then put in the serial number for FC3 and everything works now in 1.5.
Thanks!

Hi, Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't find anything about this DRM tool.
I can't find it in any folders, I can't search it up on windows explorer and I cannot find a link to it online. I haven't tried that step yet, but so far FC3 is always giving me the invalid login bug on 1.2 and 1.5.

I've had some crashes with the previous Blue Flag servers, but I'm going to play anyway :) So excited for the 80's scenario!

Hello,
A few friends and I are trying to build a Sabre simpit for our school.
One problem we're having however, is that things like the F-86's bomb wind adjustment knob and rocket run approach angle knob are not axes in DCS. You have to press buttons to adjust them.
We want to find a way to extract the game's knob position and record it in realtime to an external program so we can model our own physical knob's movement with the one shown in-game.
Is there any way to do this?

I made the autoexec.cfg file, and yes, it did save as a .cfg. I put in the requested lines and the 104th TS still says "You must change your network settings to see this post". So I click the link provided and I'm sent back here:http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2510672&postcount=394 Is that an error, or is that message referring to a post that I can't see?
If I connect to the IP provided earlier in this thread, I also get a black screen.
-
Weird, but it sorted itself out. Just started the game again last evening and all was well.
-
I'll try it later today :(
-
See the screenshot below. I was playing yesterday, and none of the numbers on my HUD, radar display and nothing at all on my weapons panel other than the wing outlines was displayed. I've only tried the F-15 so far.
I thought that maybe it was the graphics settings, so I reduced the visibility range from high to medium and it fixed the problem.
However, I started DCS up today and the glitch returned, regardless of the graphic settings I fiddled with.
Anyone else have this problem?

Correct me if I'm wrong but does that turn rate diagram show full afterburner? The most commonly published wet thrust given for the RM8A is ~26,000 lbf = 11,800 kgf but only 10,000 kg is shown. The remaining 1,800 kgf seems like too much to forget about.
