  1. Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in being my sparring partner. I fly the F-86F and I need a lot of practise, tips and help. I just got Tacview so I'd find it very beneficial to dogfight with someone on a semi-regular basis.

I'm usually on Friday afternoons just around 1pm-3pm, Eastern time (that's GMT -5 hrs, current offset, -4 hrs). I'm also on either Saturday from 11am - 2pm, but am more or less free for most of the day on Sunday.

If anyone is interested in beating up my Sabre with their giant cannons, let me know! I fly under 39th_GalmOne online. So 39th guys, if anyone with the MiG is interested, let me know.

  2. After the F-4E, I would really like to see the F-8E Crusader. That awesome plane was the Navy's primary dogfighter until the F-4B's and F-4J's arrived in number. It also had the highest kill ratio of any fighter in Vietnam.

  3. Thanks Belsimtek for fixing some of the Sabre bugs, I'm very happy about the new firing rate!

Although I'm not sure if it's against any kind of etiquette to resurrect this thread, I feel like this thread should get some attention. The cockpit looks very different compared to the real thing, and now that the MiG-15 is now a player-useable aircraft, I'm losing more MiGs behind the compass than ever. I still can't find a single image of an F-86F where the compass is there.

  4. The pilot's manual procedure provides a small clue: takeoff trim requires a bit of nose up trim, as it should be to compensate for the nose-down moment caused by the flaps. With the present nose-up moment caused by the flaps, using additional nose-up trim per the real-world take-off procedure only makes things worse.

It is noteworthy that the Bf109K4 suffered from a similar problem, but after the last patch, it was fixed. Now deploying flaps and gear for landing requires nose up trim as specified by the manual.

I would like to see a similar fix for the F-86F.

If this is the case, then I would like to see it fixed as well. Is this in the F-86F manual or the E? Just wondering, as I'm going to look into it myself now that I have the F manual.

  5. Does anyone know if there is official documentation out there that shows the F-86F cockpit panel dimensions?

I know a few guys trying to build a full working cockpit to work with Oculus and DCS but are not sure if they just want to look at pictures and scale everything based on the dimensions they might know. I gave them the F-86F parts list but I don't think we could find any dimension information in there.

  6. If anyone is interested, you can easily get Notepad++ for free and edit the F-86.lua lines 239-245 to have 1200 rounds per minute. This is the actual fire rate of the Sabre's guns, but the default lua uses something like 639-840 rpm.

It will greatly help with downing MiGs. As others have said before, aiming for the wings of the MiG will kill it but fuselage hits do nothing.

Using this mod and aiming for the wings pretty much has guaranteed me an excellent-AI MiG kill in one or two passes every time.

  7. Have you created a folder in liveries named F-86F Sabre? If not then that's why.

If you have not installed any skins before you need to create a folder named exactly F-86F Sabre

I did. I then tried putting that folder in the coremods, in the Mods/Aircrafts/liveries, etc. All the other skins work but its just the Luftwaffe ones that won't show up. I think they're just not updated to the current specs.

  8. Haha, well it's not "easier" to spot MiG's but it does help a little. (the cockpits become super dark) but if you get sweet fx and want my settings then PM me and I'll be glad to give them to u :)

I must be getting dementia or something, I was sure he included his sweetfx preset with the shader mod files, but you're right.

Anyway @SgtPappy if you're installing sweetfx - have a look at sweetfx configurator, it gives you a user interface to work with http://sweetfx.thelazy.net

Thanks, gents. I'll see if I can get it all downloaded this weekend.

  9. Check, if anyone is interested early this week coming up we will begin to work thru those training programs. I'll post more on times over there and it will be open to Mustang and Sabre since they both participated in the conflict. The Mustang Training is geared 90% of the way towards air to ground. Signup for which platform you want to fly that evening we get together (can change on different nights just try to spend that night in the same aircraft type.) Thinking of maybe a Sunday evening get together around 8pm EST on either the Korea War Server, Invisibull's, or I can always host one. Teamspeak info is on the site.

Sundays at that time are great for me too. I'll prefer to be in the F-86, but I won't mind taking the P-51 if there are too many Sabre pilots.

  10. I've registered on your site. Looking good so far. Incidentally, I've been hosting a high realism F-86 interdiction mission recently that I think you'll get a kick out of. Anyone interested, just let me know and we'll get something going.

    Downloaded and interested!

Oh and I also registered for TAG. I'm getting very excited!

  11. If you created a squad like that, I'd join in a heartbeat. Only problem is my work schedule takes up most of my day so it would be hard for me, but I would really be interested. I hope as the MiG-15 comes into the game, both Sabre and MiG pilots will more active.

And yes, I've been having the same issue with that server. I've tried joining multiple times and the error pops up as soon as I double click the server name.

  12. yes.....stunning aircraft. Everything including the scenery is just visually wonderful.

My question is: Is this edge? From all of the videos and pictures thus far, everything is so friggin insanely detailed and life like that I am wondering if it's not their hardware that makes it look so awesome. I know that when a developer in Xplane or FSX comes out with a new AC, they showcase it and it looks great compared to anything that I have, and when I purchase and download it, my version pales in comparison because I have a $300 video card and they're using an Nvidia Quadro K6000 or something crazy like that.

I have to say that DCS has always delivered the absolute best quality releases that are pretty accurate to the promos they put out. If this is the case here......I'm never going to leave my computer when Edge and these new planes are released.

    So awesome.........................

Yes, it is indeed EDGE. All the trailers are shot in EDGE.
