Maybe not in grampappies Piper Cub, you're playing the big leagues sonny boy :P:pilotfly:

It's been mentioned by the dev team that the guided munitions accuracy is off right now, and will be solved soon. I'm still working with dumb bombs, rockets and missiles right now, once I get that all mastered its off to the range for lessons on the clever kids!

Remember that this is a beta, so some of the features can have a huge impact, dialling them back by a step can have a huge effect on the outcome. We'll all be seeing a performance upgrade when the FR is here. Textures are my biggest killer ingame. First, my system. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - 3.2gHz nVidia 9800GTX+ 2 gig DDR2 Settings for me are Textures - Med Scenery - Med Shadows - High Water - Low Civ Traffic - Med Blur - Off MSAA and TSSAA - Off HDR - Off On my system this runs at 20 on the ground, facing the panel, 30 everywhere else. Over unpopulated terrain, over 40, and over cities 20-30. Going from medium to high textures drops this below 20 wherever I am, huge hit on my settings. Water has a similar effect, but I infrequently fly over water so this is no concern of mine.

Offical Thrustmaster Warthog Release
Ragtop replied to StageFright's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nope, this is a simulation stick, designed around complete accuracy and precision, not a game stick! You'll need some real rudder control to compliment this beat :) -
You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
Ragtop replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Of course you steady the car while imagining PACS :P -
It's almost guaranteed we won't see this feature in the first couple of beta releases, I imagine it'd be something added much later. Maybe ED will be able to tell us if it's planned in the FR, but IMO you'd be mad to expect it in a beta.

The stick shaking as left hydraulic pressure builds up, gets a grin every time! How the canopy rivets are in the EXACT same place as on the real Hog.

Driving to work I look 5 degrees to the left to see out the door window, real life has no TrackIR! Saying "Cleared hot" everytime I exit the motorway onto a slip road, then proceeding to drive fast around country lanes and making GAU-8 noises... Just me on that one? :P -
I would publish a 'Medium recommendation', and a 'High recommendation'. My spec; AMD Athlon 64 6000+ - 3.02gHz, which is available now under £70. 2 gig DDR2 6400, Aria PC's own brand, £25 nVidia 9800GTX+, again, the cheapest "Extreme gaming" (under nVidia's categories) GPU. With medium settings throughout, full shadows, 1920x1200, no ingame AA, but high AA on nVidia control panel (the sim looks A1 smooth), I'm getting 50 on the ground and in the air. I've not played with HDR but its not something that interests me greatly as it stands, perhaps the wonderful dev team will twiddle with the effects a little :) I'm expecting that with the beta updates I'll be able to squish a little more out of it too! Overall I'm incredibly happy with my results, the graphics are about on par with SIMMOD's A-10A in FC2 while it's maxed out for me right now. One question I have though, which part of my system do you all think would give me the most significant boost in capability? I find that in my current settings, the sim runs fantastically, but as soon as I put the textures on high (which GREATLY improves reading things like the radio switches) the sim almost crashes out entirely. (Aware that it's a beta, but I imagine this will be somewhat true on a smaller scale in the FR) What would allow me to get that little bit extra?

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
Ragtop replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
You're comparing the screenshot model to the photo taken from a totally different angle with the pilot in an unusual position, you be serious. Look at the 4th photo you posted, they're spot on, bar the pilot in the photo, who has slightly bigger shoulders - probably from flying a real aircraft rather than a computerised one! -
Option 1. As Cctoide said, much like Ironhands Flankertraining videos; "Practice using the ABC by doing XYZ, there's some targets set up at waypoint X. You have control."

SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile

Great little set up here, has made my jump into the Charlie hog very nice until my TMWH gets here! Thanks very much. -
Honestly, I'm in as much of a search as anyone, so the initial ones I posted are pretty common, but I'm hoping that over time we'll see some more interesting and specific features cropping up!
-
Possibly, it might be good to keep them apart IMO, as I say, there is a huge amount of information in the form of procedural and operational documentation, mainly pertinent to basic aircraft operation. Over time I'd like to see this thread develop to something of similar substance, but relating purely to tactics and theory.
-
This is one of those subjects that noone will ever be able to read enough about, because there'll always be that one little bit of information that might save your bacon when things get messy in the mud. Theres countless documents and threads across the internet with regards to aircraft operation procedures and instruments, but very little to cover using it for its intent, a mean mother!@£$%^ hog with a mean mother!@£$%^& snout! So I'd like to use this thread as a repository for all the different resources you've read throughout your time as a groundpounder (simming or in RL!), that have helped you out on the battlefield. I know I've spent too many hours sifting the useful from the useless, and maybe someone like me will benefit from a thread like this, giving us all one good place to come and brush up on our skills. I'll list the ones that I know to start with, and update with any that you guys post! Before anyone starts ranting that any of these are outdated or what have you, remember, while the whole article may not be relevant, there will always be some useful information that remains pertinent to any aircraft, be it chucking rocks out of a paper biplane or firing a laser from the deathstar! With that out of the way, here we go! -A-10A/C Combat Tactics- Hog Basics: RAF Bentwaters Tactics Guide - 1982 - Andy Bush - A great guide which highlights many useful topics, such as formations, navigation and attack strategies. Mavericks, Rockets, and the Gun - Air To Mud Shooting In The Hog - Andy Bush - Some of these tactics will change with the new C Hog, but a lot of the skills will remain, such as ingress and spotting tactics. CCIP Bombing in the A-10A - Andy Bush - Again, written for LOMAC but there is some interesting reading that might be of some use to us! Combat Mission Planning Considerations, Part One - Initial Planning Combat Mission Planning Considerations, Part Two - Ingress, Attack, and Egress - Andy Bush - Fantastic in depth look at mission planning. Air To Ground Basics - Bombing Air To Ground Basics - Bombing, Part Two Air To Ground Basics, Part Three - Rockets and Guns - Andy Bush - Great 3 part introduction to basic ground pounding theory and practice. Flankertraining Rich 'Ironhand' Sorochak's fabled website, covering a great deal of subjects for LOMAC and general theory alike. Fixed Wing CAS Tactics - Interesting and very in depth overview of CAS operations and procedures. Close Air Support - Fas.org document outlining CAS in great depth.

Snap Andy, got my TIR5 today, only flown it in FC2 so far, but with the 6DOF mod, damn its amazing! Totally different world to my experiences with Freetrack, simply stunning. I think I'm gonna hold off til the Saitek Combat pedals come out, they look ideal and they're priced very well too. Plus my wallet is still burning preemptively from the TM Warthog :P
-
Didn't take it in that way atall :) *Highfive!* But wow, great news Wags! If it takes longer I'll hold you accountable! :D Are there any little differences on the production model to the ones we've seen floating about online? Or is that classified like the Mig :P
-
I would assume that you'd fly slower en route to the IP, maybe 75-80% power? Then depending on your tasking, you'd fly for whichever necessities present themselves. Remember, all the time theres no threats below you, you've got all the time in the world! (Unless you've got troops waiting for you!) I think that in sims like FC2 we get bored, because there is very little to do control wise while you're en route. In DCS there'll probably be so much going on in the pit that we'll wish these birds would slow down!
-
In this thread there's mention of a mod for Black Shark which opens up IVC, maybe we'll see that for A-10C at some point! *crosses fingers* While it'd be easy to just run something like Vent in the background, I think IVC adds to the whole immersion of the sim, actually tuning into specific comm channels to talk to your flight etc, would be very cool.
-
Ah that makes sense. Sorry for my ignorance, I will get there eventually, after many hours of shouting at my screen :P
-
I understand what they are there for, but in the sim, what will the player be able to transmit?
-
So its accounting for where the missile is mounted on the wings, to match up to BS?
-
Thanks! From the man himself :P Forgive my lack on knowledge on this subject, but if the Mav is slaved BS, what reticle controls would there be? I'd have assumed it was just following the gunsight or similar? I've also edited my original post with a second Q.
-
This one will probably leave me slapping my forehead, but heregoes! On the images Olgerd posted, showing what the buttons map to on the TM Warthog (EDIT: standard flight stick! :joystick:), when Mav is the SOI, the DMS hat is "Mav BS reticle (Mav BS only)". What is Mav BS? The sensor is obviously on the slew hat on the throttle so I can't get my head around this one! Also, I notice on the mic switch we have the 4 radio transmit controls; As we are unfortunately not going to see IVC, what will these actually broadcast?
-
How did I miss that!? I've looked at that website multiple times and somehow never seen them. *Facepalm* The Saitek Combat rudder pedals also look very interesting, although I can't find a price right now. EDIT: Looks like they'll be about $199. Very interesting!
