News for 30 Oct and last week if you missed it:
-
Part 1 of the L-39 Test Flight series is available here. These series document how I go about learning new aircraft from scratch and are intended mostly for new players who are looking for a place to start. I go into a lot of detail on aircraft systems so you might find parts useful even if you already know the aircraft. General topics are listed in the video title if you are looking for anything specific.

Thanks, these really are great!

A-10C Warthog - Sunset Sierra with the Oculus Rift
Bunyap replied to Bunyap's topic in Screenshots and Videos
No, they are all 1440p at 60fps and have been for some time. Youtube occasionally drops the ball and doesn't fully process a video so that may be what you are seeing. If that is the case I will eventually re-upload it. -
A-10C Warthog - Sunset Sierra with the Oculus Rift

Thanks kontiuka. Part 2 is available above. -
This is a single mission flown in the DCS: A-10C Warthog module called Sunset Sierra. I use the Oculus Rift headset to fly the mission and include three views, one from the headset, one external to my aircraft, and one showing the battlespace with Tacview. Also available:

Here is the 16 Oct Update: Rjetster, the settings I was using there are attached for what they are worth. I haven't really pinned down good settings yet because they really vary from mission to mission. I tend to set them pretty low so I never have to tinker. :)

I had been trying to do the same thing with synced views but gave up long ago. :) That was awesome. Great job!

DCS: A-10C Warthog - Georgian Hammer Campaign

DCS: A-10C Warthog - Georgian Hammer Campaign

Ok, here is part 2. :) -
Latest edition: The shakiness in the second part is due to natural head movements while speaking. I can stabilize that using Premiere in the future, just not this time. I also hope to improve the resolution in the external view when I present them in this way. External views are not lining up correctly for tracks recorded in the Oculus Rift so only a small portion of the screen is usable. I'm just double checking it is not something I am doing on my end before reporting it.

DCS: A-10C Warthog - Georgian Hammer Campaign
Bunyap replied to Bunyap's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks a lot. :) Yeah, 10 to 1 is about right. This part might have been a little less since there was no "action" to compose the external views for. I was able to set up a view, go do other things, then come back and compose a new view every few minutes instead of watching it constantly. Most of the time is taken up syncing everything up and making sure the cuts to different views add to the viewer's situational awareness and aren't just random. Of course, that is a double edged sword because it opens me up to a lot of second guessing I wouldn't have to deal with otherwise. :) -
This time I am flying the Georgian Hammer campaign in the DCS: A-10 Warthog. I will also use the DCS: Combined Arms module to serve in a variety of roles including A-10 Pilot, AFAC, JTAC, Ground Force Commander, and even Tank Crewman. :) These missions include a briefing, full start-up and shutdown, mission execution, and debriefing with full commentary on what I am doing and why I am doing it as I go. A big thanks to Snoopy for providing both the checklist and a "sanity check" on A-10 launch procedures! http://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=42

Su-25 Frogfoot - Ground Attacks in DCS: World 1.5
Bunyap replied to Bunyap's topic in Screenshots and Videos
You know, I think the real one has different "modes" for ranging and designation but I can't find any good sources. Somebody is bound to chime in that it works fine without turning it on but I'll trust the manual until I find something better. No right or wrong way to do it though as long as it works... -
Su-25 Frogfoot - Ground Attacks in DCS: World 1.5
Bunyap replied to Bunyap's topic in Screenshots and Videos
It is for ranging information so the sight knows the slant range to the target and where ground level is. Please check the manual at page 280-281. Did you guys watch the whole thing? I mentioned why I did it twice. :) -
Here is a short Instant Action mission in the Flaming Cliffs 3 Su-25 Frogfoot. There are vehicles moving along the road and we are tasked with taking them out. Here is a short MiG-21 video as well, too short really to deserve its own thread. Enjoy. :)

Ok, part 2 is available above. :)

Thanks a lot. :) Part 2 is finished and should be here tomorrow morning.

Thanks unknown. The Mi-8 will be up next unless the L-39 really grabs my attention. :) Updated for the 2nd:

Follow along as I explore the new features, improvements and features in 1.5. I go line by line and stop to smell the roses in a few places. :) Part 1 covers the graphics engine, interface, Combined Arms, AI, and other misc updates. Part 2 will cover changes to individual aircraft.
