Patch 1.1.1.0 for DCS: A-10C Warthog (English) Released
MagnumHB replied to pvtkramer's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Amen to that. Fast work connection + flash drive = instant install at home. -
Thanks for the quick response. I thought that sounded a bit strange.
-
Care to elaborate on this?
-
Nate's post in that thread is from June. The second item under Avionics in the 1.1.1.0 changelog says this issue has been fixed.
-
Ah, I see the situation now. That's what I get for reading the thread too quickly. I guess I'm just too used to people confusing imperial and metric units in this context.
-
Did this thread get stuck in a time warp? It feels like .9 just came out again. For even more detail on this, note that PAC-1 currently stabilizes on the HEI pipper instead of the correct, central API pipper. This is a bug that should be resolved in the next patch. 30mm. Quite different.

It's a bug that should be resolved in the upcoming patch. For the moment, you can reset it to normal functionality by selecting the steerpoint CDU page.

Great stuff. Any chance of seeing how the improved TGP/MAV imagery looks?

Missing JTAC MGRS Digits Fix for 1.1.0.9
MagnumHB replied to Speed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Great work. This should be in an official release. -
The bullseye is an arbitrary point of reference common to all units of a given coalition. It is independent of any mission waypoints you or any other units have. It shows up on the TAD and in the mission editor as a set of concentric circles. Note that lasing is only required for weapons guidance when using LGBs (GBU-10/12). If you saw a tutorial without any lasing, either they were using auto-lase and you didn't notice, or they were using JDAMs or unguided bombs which do not make use of the laser. I like to set latch on and manually lase with 15-20 seconds fall time remaining when dropping LGBs. Correct, as we do not have LMAVs in-game.

I believe this is a bug that has been resolved for the next patch.

Already have. DCS can't quite handle the pace of how things happen in the book, but I've been messing around with the ME and I think it's possible to come up with something that gets you into that sort of scenario through the use of proper scripting and custom audio files.

That depends on the mission builder, of course. I for one would not complain if there were in fact more missions based on recent CAS actions.

Can someone give me real payloads.

For sure, that's essentially what I was saying. This video shows A-10 gun runs in the vicinity of 3000 ft AGL and .5-.7 NM slant range: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d2c_1317795682 -

It is my understanding that the ROEs have fluctuated significantly over the 10 years of OEF, which would change requirements for what situations may or may not require higher authority at any given time. The events described in books like Apache and Fire Strike 7/9 during roughly 2006-2007 were at a peak time of ordnance delivery with relatively lenient ROEs. There have been other periods where less ordnance usage was desired, and correspondingly strict ROEs put in place. Generally, I would think that a JTAC would have more personal authority during a troops in contact situation as compared to, say, a UAV observing a possible IED emplacement team for example. There's also collateral damage considerations which may also require higher authority. Also, in some ways, a strafing run may actually require more approval than a bomb drop if the strafe requires breaking an established hard deck. I believe the approval for this is easier to get if the situation is critical (TIC). One caveat here is that this requirement may apply less to the A-10 than other, faster aircraft due to the nature of A-10 operations. -

A-10C: http://warthogcombatloadouts.blogspot.com/ http://warthognews.blogspot.com/ F-15E: http://www.f-15e.info/joomla/en/weapons/loadout-configurations/125-enduring-freedom Other/General: http://www.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp?galleryID=11 The Osprey books also have quite a lot of information on loadouts. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong with primarily LGB/JDAM setups. Sure there is, if you are conducting CAS or BAI being controlled by any sort of FAC(A) or JTAC. -
As far as I have seen, only civilian ships (tanker, transports, yacht) can be destroyed with a single D/H model Maverick. Also, in my experience, the Molniya corvette generally (always?) requires more than a single G/K Maverick to sink it, as does the frigate. When possible, it's best to hit combat ships with GBU-10/31 for one-hit kills depending on what's available and whether the ship is moving or not. For the problem of weapons missing the ship due to its irregular shape, you can use force correlate on G/H/K Mavericks, or attack from a frontal/rear aspect to give the seeker/TGP a view of a solid "surface" instead of possible gaps in the superstructure.

The solution to this, provided that your pedals are properly calibrated, is to simply not apply uneven pressure. This may (gasp) actually require practice. Ground handling is a skill to be learned just the same as anything else.

This. It's extremely easy to go through 6 Mavericks trying to get rid of SAMs and AAA, let alone proper armor, and still need to rearm to finish the mission. For example, I was playing Operation Nightmare on the 104th server the other day with 10-15 players from the beginning of the mission. Even after rearming twice, the mission was still not over when I had to leave the server. The problem is made worse by the current state of the CBU-97/105 which forces more use of PGMs against armor. For what it's worth, my most common online loadout is the one with 4 Mavericks (2 D, 2 H), 2 GBU-38, 2 GBU-12, and rockets as I've found it to be the best balance between total capacity and kill efficiency, as well as standoff capability. One of the Osprey books mentions Navy Hornets using laser guided Mavericks at the end of OIF in urban CAS situations. More to the point, this gallery shows several photos of A-10s with Mavericks in OIF. Edit: Even more to the point, this post, which is C-model specific. Talk about light loadouts.

Two lessons you didn't mention in the video: 1. Don't fly around under normal circumstances with your speedbrake open, and don't use full speedbrakes on approach, especially with a damaged engine. 2. Don't fly around at low level unless you are trying to avoid a specific radar guided SAM threat. It's just asking for a MANPAD or AAA shot, which is exactly what happened. Try staying above 15000 ft.

The A-10 was originally designed to be relatively simple and cheap. Just be thankful that we have the upgraded avionics of the C model instead of the A. Who really wants to autoland anyway?
