  1. Yes I put a link to forum post in my signature now, but I am referring to the file sharing site at http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com
  2. Hello, I have uploaded a mission for A10C warthog beta to the user files section at http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com but something is wrong with the upload, it shows 0 bytes and if I click download I arrive at some kind of webapplication called bitrix and a logon screen. I tried to edit the post and reupload the file but I get the same result. The mission is called "The Gauntlet" Did upload another mission before with no issues. Thanks for any help.
  3. Found this one Very nice movie depicting A10 in FAC / CSAR role.
  4. A good way to practice is to view your own position from the bullseye. When you start your mission, look over at the CDU and select the waypoint page (WP button). Then select ANCHOR PT and click next to HUD OFF at the bottom left line. Since the bullseye is the standard anchor point the hud will now show BULLSEYE XXX / YYY which is your own position from the bullseye. Since you now can see where you are in the blink of an eye it should be easier to interpret the bullseye calls in relation to your own position. Also, you can hook the bullseye with the TADS. First press Select Hook Mode a couple of times on the TADS untill it says HOOK CURS. Then select the bullseye with the TADS cursor and press TMS up short. If you now slew the cursor around, it will show the position of the cursor relative to the bullseye on the TADS. This way, you can make easy bullseye calls yourself by placing the TADS cursor over the enemy position and just call out the number it reads. Hope it helps.
  5. The Gauntlet Hey that was some nice snowy atmosphere during the landing! I also made a mission but something completely different. It is a mission where you penetrate enemy territory with lots of enemy air defence. I created it for myself to have a very intense flying experience and practice evasive maneuvers and that sure worked out :). Hereby I share it and present to you: The Gauntlet "Today is your turn to run the gauntlet. As part of the initiation rite of the squadron you have just been deployed to, the purpose of The Gauntlet simulator scenario is to familiarize pilots with flying the aircraft under pressure, in this case night-time low-level flight and under constant enemy fire. You are to infiltrate enemy terrain trough a canyon which is heavily defended with AAA, MANPADS and the occasional APC. On top of the mountains around the canyon are numerous SAM sites. Whatever you do, do not rise above the canyon walls once inside it. You are to engage a high-value target with rockets and cannon deep inside the mountains and exfiltrate back to base. If you make it, you earn your rank amongst the best DCS A10 Beta pilots the world has ever seen. After takeoff, Fly to waypoint 2 and before you reach it drop below 300ft AGL. You will find a river which you will follow upstream along your fligh plan. At his point make sure your CMS is setup and weapon profiles are configured. Try to stay below 300ft AGL and preferably lower untill you reach waypoint 20 or you will be toast even sooner. Expect contact with enemy forces from waypoint 4 onwards. Be ready to anticipate on enemy fire and do not fly in a straight line. Keep jinking the aircraft and actively dodge incoming fire. Maintain situational awareness at all times and stick to the river as close as possible. Do not bother to engage enemies, you are heavily outnumbered. Be careful at waypoint 8 marked CAUTION in the CDU where the river ends and you make a sharp turn to turn back in the canyon at waypoint 9. At waypoint 11 you will find an enemy safehouse where enemy generals are suspected to hold a meeting tonight. A couple of rocket hits and some cannon should do it. Upon good hits on target follow your flight plan back to base and take your well deserved beer. Think you are tough? Prove it!" The Gauntlet.miz
  6. The link in my post is a direct link to the audio.
  7. Where do you get these recordings? I did find a recording of 2 F14 vs 2 MIG-23 that was very nice. Think it was used for some version of falcon menu sound effects as I recognized some parts. http://ka8vit.com/sd/SHOOTDN2.mp3
  8. OK I ran the tests and my initial observation was incorrect. In all 4 scenarios the BMP's got killed as they should be. In one test a M1A2 took 3 hits and was still OK. In the final test a M1A2 goes down after 3 hits. I didnt notice a difference between just day or night in engagement range but definitely the bmps were impaired by fog/bad weather. The bad weather does hurt range more at night. In good conditions the tanks will fire first, at the exact same moment the BMP's stop advancing and start firing. But in bad conditions the tanks will fire and the bmp's are not firing back. This was a 2vs2 scenario with 2 tanks at one end of the runway and 2 bmp's advancing towards the other end of the runway. Engagement started well before the bmp's reached the runway in good conditions at about 3500m, in bad conditions just when they are about to hit the other end of runway about 3100m and in very bad (night + rain/fog), bmp's keep on advancing. In any case, I couldnt reproduce the BMP outranging the M1A2 in sim. Guess the crews in the tanks of my battle from yesterday had just fallen asleep :) On the other hand, only in very bad conditions can the tanks get away with firing and not getting return fire. And they are not that accurate... Well about the shilka's, I saw them performing a nice feat yesterday. They were taking out the mavericks that were shot at them by my wingman. It was from long range and the missile wasnt as fast anymore. The shilka took 4 or so of them down before getting hit. I dont know how they are in fc2 or bs (never get fired at by shilka's :)) but they have gotten to me in the a10 a couple of times already. If they are to your left or right and you see them you have plenty of time to dodge but if you dont see them it can go pretty fast. They do tend to aim short in my experience. Also the rain of shells bursting from the shilka's looks awesome in this engine.
  9. Yes I'd guess as its just wire-guided like TOW and I don't know about the optics they've got but it cant be anywhere near what a modern MBT has. This engagement was at night so even harder but don't know if day/night actually influences ground vs. ground combat in the sim. I am going to run some tests on BMP vs MBT, see what happens.
  10. Yes, BMP2 armor cannot be great, indeed could very well be penetrated by 7.62 at short range. In any case its defintely not a modern armor package. We had APC's back in 2000 that could be penetrated by 7.62 rounds. Maybe the game's tanks only fire at maximum effective range regardless of target. Also I wonder how effective an AT-5 is in real-life against an M1 tank considering they are known to have taken multiple relatively close-range hits from ATGM's in Iraq for example. I also read a M1 got stuck in the sand and had to be abandoned, they tried to destroy it with rounds from another M1 but didnt succeed. Anyways, 4km is pretty sick range. Modern systems like Javelin can't even reach 3km as far as I know.
  11. Pilots, As a former army officer in the dutch armed forces I really like to fool around with creating ground force scenarios. Last night, I had a russian force of some bmp's and t-80's attack a village in the middle of the night. The village was protected by some m1a2 abrams, IFV's and TOW HMMWV's. The idea was to first create a scenario where the russians would win and then have the player in his A10 turn the tide. The T-80's where to break trough on the east side of the line and then attack the west side from the flank and rear. On the west side of the attack formation I had only put some BMP-2's figuring they wouldn't break trough and get hammered by the m1a2's. However, the bmp-2's AT-5 missile outranged everything I had on the USA side. They took out a platoon of m1a2's and 2 TOW HMMWV's from kilometers away without even getting a single shot fired at them. Now of course the in-game yankees just sat there without maneuvring or showing initiative but still this kind of surprised me so I went on the internet looking for answers. AT-5 range : 4,000m TOW range : 3,750m M1A2 range : up to 3km to be effective against modern armor. Now, this is just internet data but seemingly, the BMP2 does in fact outrange everything in the conventional western inventory?? Anyone with accurate knowledge care to debunk or comment on this?
  12. This also works for Mavericks! First make markpoints, then cycle them, slave mav to SPI, and lock and launch all your mavs in quick succession :)
  13. In my reality the radio's auto-tune... I am sure I didn't dream it up. I only have to turn them on, then I can use the comms menu to communicate to airbases, flights, awacs and so on without manual tuning. If the line I select is grey of color the radios will switch themselves.
  14. Hello All, I want to ask all you hardcore DCS simmers a question. How do you spend your time in DCS? I am a long-time flightsim fan, though I have been on a break for some years and I am now simming like never before since about a year and a half again. The games I grew up with were games like Tornado, Longbow, Falcon series, Total Air War, EF2000, etc. The DCS sims are much more adult sims then the sims I played before, much more advanced in every thinkable aspect. And I like it alot! In most of the '90s flight sims you usually had some campaigns that could generate random missions, you were part of a squadron, etc. This was nice for what it was back then but now it wouldn't suffice anymore I guess, unless it would be very good and immersive. So what do you guys do in DCS? Do you create a lot of scenarios and play them? Do you just fly around perfecting your maneuvering skills? Got custom scenarios/campaigns from others? (know any good ones??) I am asking this question because at first, when learning Black Shark last year I was a bit put off by the linear campaign and having to fly the same route to the objective again for 1hr should I crash. But now, because I started playing more and more BS while waiting for DCS A10, I am really starting to appreciate the beauty of the DCS series. And I mean really really appreciate it :) I really like flying it, even if it is just random free flight. All the modeling, physics, graphics and so on is fabulous. Also I kind of discovered the mission editor where I just make tactical scenarios for myself. But I want more of course :) In short, I am looking for new ways to enjoy the DCS series. Ways I might not have discovered yet. What do you guys do in the sim and what would you advise me to do to get the most out of it? Finally, I have attached a small mission I made in the editor for DCS A10 Beta. There are Tornado's doing ALARM strikes, F15's and B1's with JSOW's, AH64 which will listen to you for go-code, AI Air-to-Air combat and of course lots of dropping bombs and shooting mavs. I used it for training and every day I added something to it and in the end I thought I might as well share it. Basically just a kill-em-all with some AI tossed in. Try it and tell me if it sucks or not :) Allright, see you in the virtual skies! Wakeupcall.miz
  15. This is my personal favorite for A10 movies including in-cockpit gun sounds. I watch this one and then boot the sim right away for maximum immersion :) Though you can hear the stall warning very clearly the cannon is not that audible in this vid. In fact it sounds very much like in-game. I think in-cockpit is done very well in-game.
  16. Sure is heavy! This is my try. A bit bloathed... LOL Had some trouble with the trim but overall I am satisfied :) At least kept the bird in one piece.
