I had that happen only once. I think I just restarted steam VR, though you might try bringing up the Steam VR menu with the steam button on the hand controller?
-
I have this happen all the time too. Sometimes it gets confused and you can't click the comms menu, even when the cursor eventually shows up.

How to reassign virtual hand controls (Reverb G2)
nobuttons replied to bandit777's topic in Virtual Reality
Ah I see, sorry I thought you were also flying with HOTAS! Never mind... Good luck with the button mappings though! -
I'm not sure Rift S or Quest 2 are going to be a really meaningful upgrade for DCS. Unless for some reason you want to play stand alone VR more than PC VR, the Quest 2 is really not a great choice despite the link cable. IMO you should think of the link cable as a "bonus kinda meh VR head set that uses up more performance than a normal headset, but hey you get it for free with your state of the art stand alone VR console". I agree with Monk, getting an Index or G2 (if you can find one in stock) and running with Steam or DCS resolution lowered, will likely give you a decent upgrade and still be state of the art still when you do upgrade the PC.

Thanks for this tip, it turns out I did have the keys double mapped unexpectedly! I thought I'd checked by hitting the combos in the remapping screen, but sometimes it seems they don't actually jump to what is mapped if I am in the wrong 'group', and it looks like 'F-14 Pilot' has some bindings that overlap 'General' so I have to check everything twice. I still have a weird, 'jump forward glitch' when I NP5 to recenter that I assume is another double dining I have to track down, but for the most part I've finally got it sorted so I'm fine when I spawn in! It could be a thing where since the F14 has two cockpit positions Heatblur had to do odd stuff for the config files...

When I am in normal 2D mode without the headset, it toggles on in small red text in the upper left. In VR however, nothing shows up. What's the bonehead thing I am doing wrong?!

Quick update on my multiple track pad test... So some good, some bad. Reaching out and touching exactly where I want to get the mouse cursor is very good! Feels very natural. Also, swapping between multiple trackpads is no problem at all and very smooth. I also found a trackpad on Amazon that is only $29!!! And it is full multi touch, good tracking, everything top notch: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BHYD9FG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00 The bad news is that while I don't t-rex arm anymore with my fingers floating at odd angles, I still have to keep my head still while I try and point and click the controls... as soon as DCS detects head movement the cursor starts jumping and fighting my mouse. If I could only have DCS keep the mouse in the cockpit space it was on, this would be *perfect*~ -
[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

Ok, I just borrowed a Jet Seat from a friend and am eager to try it. I hooked it up and the self test for the Shaker, and SSA both work! It seems to get support for the F-14 I need a beta build though? Where can I download that, and I need any special config files too? Thanks in advance! -
How to reassign virtual hand controls (Reverb G2)
nobuttons replied to bandit777's topic in Virtual Reality
Oh interesting! Does the G2 have hand tracking with it's external cameras that is recognized by DCS? Or are you using the grip controllers? Tell us more about your set up becasue if you have actual finger tracking without a Capto glove I'd love to try it! (Yes I know I should try DCS on my G2 but setting new stuff up is always slow! VR Zoom and Extra Zoom (binocs mode) is temporary only while you hold it. Maybe if you tap it, it might flicker. Could that be the problem? Yeah DCS is bad about allowing analog assignments to keys except for functions it expects to be analog (like Pitch and Yaw). What you need is an a input remapper program like Joy2Key. There you can take the analog inputs of your sticks or other devices, and remap them to keys. Then map those keys in DCS. It's a bother and it sounds complicated, but you should have no trouble. I think this might be a version of the problem above. Throttles axis in DCS are expecting a simulated throttle on a pivot or rail which stays at the value you leave it. You can fix it also by remapping in Joy2Key Up stick to a key like W, and then mapping W to throttle increase in DCS. Then do the reverse with a key like S. Good luck! -
G2 is excellent for seated VR, and an absolute steal at the price. Compared to the Rift S you will feel like you have double the resolution. It has a rapid fall off from the super crisp focus area, but the rest of your FOV will be as good or better than your Rift. It has some limitations on the controllers, which won't bother you at all of you spend most time in DCS.

How are you checking which app is being prioritized for GPU and CPU?

If you want something to just click on your finger while using your head to point (if your HOTAS is full or you have a replica stick), this little ring here gives you three buttons and is quite light... https://www.amazon.com/Kokuyo-Operation-Presenter-Obsidian-Kokuyoseki/dp/B00D63BIAO/ref=asc_df_B00D63BIAO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198072228887&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13056189339425782147&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9052350&hvtargid=pla-390918039267&psc=1 The scroll wheel on that finger mouse does look handy tho! -

They are very high quality. Smooth slightly textured glass like a PowerBook or SurfaceBook. -
Thanks for the vids! I'm using the F-14 module, and yes, User Snap View Saving is checked ON. I went back and tried it again, like in the videos, and I think something is either buggy/glitchy, or I have some strange conflict? First attempt: - spawned in at nose to stick - adjusted view with numpad keys - hit RALT NP0 - hit 5NP - back at nose to stick I think, maybe it's a numlock thing? 2nd attempt: - spawned in at nose to stick - adjusted view with numpad keys - hit RALT NP0 - toggle numlock off - hit RALT NP0 - hit 5NP - my view doesn't jump to the stick! Instead it jumps about four inches left of the plane's centerline... - hit VR reset - now I am back at nose to stick Ok, maybe I'll just do it all over again and be careful not to VR reset 3nd attempt: - spawned in at four inches left of plane centerline?! - adjusted view with numpad keys - hit RALT NP0 - hit 5NP - my view jumps up about a foot so my view is in the canopy! - deep breath - adjusted view again with numpad keys - hit RALT NP0 - hit 5NP - my view stays! I exit out and load into MP to test... and the view stays! No idea why it would take sometimes only, or take with weird offsets... I'm afraid to touch anything now, but would love to know if there's something else I should be keeping an eye on to make this work reliably...

VR vs a very large monitor with TrackIR
nobuttons replied to Sparrow_1976's topic in Virtual Reality
I started building a cockpit with an 85" Sony 4K TV as the display ... then switched to VR. VR has less clarity, lower effects quality and lower framerates on even the beefiest machines... but the sense of *being there* in VR, and the ability to really naturally look around and build accurate situation awareness, makes me personally more than happy to make that tradeoff. Actually... that undersells it. I LOVE VR SO MUCH!!! For what it's worth, the G2 has a very small center spot of high clarity, apparently by design. In contrast the Pimax 8KX headsets have very slightly less center clarity, but nearly 4x area of max clarity. Some people may find that a more comfortable tradeoff. -

I have a Pimax with Leap Motion mapped to a mouse movement with some custom software a friend wrote and it's not a bad solution. Feels similar to what the PointCtrl videos show. I have left/right click mapped on buttons on both my stick and throttle so I can use both hands to point. To be honest it's a little twitchy 'cause your head movement causes the cursor to jump around, so it's not really great for buttons you have to find and push in a hurry if they are not right in front of you. It's also ridiculous if you goto the map or use the comms menu because you are pointing way up in the air... Also because it's mapping your 3D hands to 2D mouse, your natural sense of motion is skewed, and often times reaching for where you 'see' the button, and trying to grab it, is less accurate than doing a weird T-Rex arm thing where you 'scroll around in the air' between your eyes and the button. The other (cheaper) mouse in VR solution I found is one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PGFHJDY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's a light weight trackpad and like a trackball you won't lose it or have to grab it like a mouse. Better than a trackball you can easily mount it anywhere at any angle (unlike a trackball), and single finger or double finger tap give you pretty natural left ad right mouse click (double tap and drag to hold for knobs and stuff). One idea I want to try is to get multiple of these pads (two more), and place them in the physical locations of the actual aircraft control panels themselves. That way my fingers can actually reach out to where I see the buttons 'are' in VR, then I will touch the surface, get a cursor to pop up, and be able to do fine adjustments, but with a natural arm position. -
I am trying to set the default position when I spawn into airplane into something that is more comfortable for looking down at the switches in the cockpit. Right now I have to adjust it every time I spawn. To be clear, this is not, 'recentering my VR view so that my natural looking ahead position in the real world matches looking ahead in VR' (I was able to find that in the UI layer keybindings and map it to LCRTL+Home where it works fine even in the menus). Instead my question is 'how to adjust where DCS thinks the pilot's neck and head are inside the cockpit when you spawn into a new plane'. I found this thread : With this specific tip: However, neither of these two seem to work properly... RALT + KP0 seems to have no effect. Worse, KP5 reset my view to my nose at the base of my flight stick, and now that's the default position whenever I KP5 or spawn into the plane ... so I kinda made my problem way worse!

BoxxMann's Tips - Adjust Seat/Eyepoint with VR
nobuttons replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Actually can anyone verify that these still work for them? I borrowed a full layout keyboard (with a numpad) and got myself in serious trouble. I can adjust the view U,D,L,R,Fore,Aft no problem... RALT + KP0 - doesn't seem to do anything Even worse, when I hit KP5, my view jumped down so my nose is at the controlstick's base. Now *that* position is the new default for my cockpit in every jet I spawn! Any ideas? -
BoxxMann's Tips - Adjust Seat/Eyepoint with VR
nobuttons replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
This thread is a lifesaver! Does anybody have the names for all of these commands and which command menu they sit in so we can look them up and rebind them? My keyboard doesn't have a number pad (or right hand modified keys) -
I thought I had this, but it turns out it was the nose gear kneeling randomly on the server. The switch is always set OFF when joining the server, but the actual status of the nose gear value seems to be random for me. Recently I just always flip the gear switch to EXTD every flight and wait and see if I needed it... so far it's been reliable to resolve it on the private MP server I play on with at least a half dozen joins.
