Back when I flew real aircraft (i e gliders - powered flight is transportation), we used to dream of incendiary FFARs for instant thermals along the route. Add a few... ? ;) (Theres an engine thingamojig stuck on there, BTW. Modelling error, I'm sure...)

ITAWT ITAWA PUDYE TTATT, freely and possibly slightly incorrectly quoted from memory. Those were the five letter designators of the navigation fixes forming one approach to a major airport. The missed approach was via IDEED... Could that sound file indicate improved ATC in the works, along with a new terrain containing that airport? :)

Thrustmaster Warthog for DCS:BlackShark
effte replied to STP Dragon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The download link is no longer working. Could someone who has this make it available? I'd appreciate it a lot. Edit: Now working again, thanks to the OP. Rep inbound! Cheers, Fred -
How's the new 737? Can you somehow hook the computer keyboard up to the FMS CDU keyboard? Drives me nuts to have to point-and-click my way through the menus, being used to the smooth interface Aerowinx PS1.3. Probably buying that come fall. Cheers, Fred

Ahem... figured it out. The "six symbols" line is there from the start, as a general piece of advice. When you enter a new password, the password is changed but you're sent back to the form with the "six symbols" line... tricking me into believing nothing had happened. I've probably changed password 80 times tonight. Now I'm logged in, with a new password. Problem solved, but changing that form to give some kind of feedback when the password is successfully changed might be a good idea. Thanks anyway! Cheers, Fred

I have a new computer, and somehow some stored passwords didn't seem to survive the transition. On the main site, digitalcombatsimulator.com (NOT the forum), I tried using the password recovery feature. It worked as far as getting me an email with a link to follow, which led me to a page where I can enter a new password. So far, so good. However, it tells me: no matter what I do. Six characters, eight characters, eight characters with figures and symbols, uppercase, lowercase... I'm at a loss. Could it be triggering on my five character user name? Please advice. I want to get A-10C downloaded and installed afresh... Cheers, Fred

Paronomastics have more pun! ;)

Well, there's a reason why some sort of glide path guidance is essentially mandated for large transport jets, with their associated long spool-up times and slow manoeuvering. The Su-25 when slow/heavy shares some of the characteristics of those jets, so while you shouldn't need GP guidance, the OP is IMO being wiser than most when trying to use whatever means is available. Use all means available to guarantee the safety of the flight, at all times. The people flying the large transports hopefully do not have serious flying skill issues, and still PAPI/VASI installations were mandated due to hard-earned experience. :)

Something interesting a Tornado pilot told me...

We'll see... when they get around to the dynamic campaign. ;) -
The A-10 is not capable of using NDBs. Your best option is to fake them by creating a steerpoint at the NDB.

According to Wikipedia (which, of course, is as absolutely correct as anyone who ever flew a 75% scale copy of a Spitfire), he's a water nymph and not a god... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethereal_being :music_whistling:

UTM coordinate fail, even using WarriorXs guide. What now?
effte replied to Ptroinks's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
CK01000809 or CK10000809 should do it, unless you've stumbled upon something entirely new. In fact, it's gotte be CK10000809, as the simulator would as far as we know output CK01000809 as CK100809, leaving you seriously up manure creek without a paddle. -
Anecdotal evidence is only to be trusted when discussing simulator flight models, where everything written by anyone who ever stepped near the aircraft concerned is Absolute Fact - if it will give the poster's fav steed an advantage... ;)

AWACs on Tower Frequency at Krymsk in Fast Mission
effte replied to Magician's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The dropped zero can be a leading zero in either three-figure group, meaning you need to add a zero as the first or the fourth figure. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1127986#post1127986 , heading 'DCS Caveats'. Cheers, Fred -
Great find. I'm still hoping for DCS:A-6... :)

A jedi pilot, moving the throttles through the Force! Can we have him wave his hand around in the air while doing it? ;) Kidding aside, I'd find that more disturbing than anything - to have an inanimate virtual pilot who does not move the controls which move. The problem with having an animated virtual pilot is that you will have to code precognition into the sim, in order to have the virtual pilot flip the switch as you press the corresponding button on your keyboard. Otherwise, you'll have instantaneous movements of arms and feet which will truly be horrible to behold. Now, ED would probably be the first to pull precognitive programming off, but I think they have more pressing matters at hand. The completely opposite views on the to be or not to be of the virtual pilot probably depends on how you view the simulator (now I'm speculating). Do you view the simulator as a simulator that puts you inside the head of a pilot flying an A-10? If so, that pilot being a disembodied pair of eyes will probably appear spooky. If you on the other hand view the simulator as a simulator that puts you inside the cockpit of an A-10, having a virtual pilot already there, in addition to your own limbs, makes it terribly crowded all at once. Thus, I maintain my previously stated opinion that if an animated pilot can be implemented in a reasonably functional manner, then it is of value - but it should at all times be optional. Different strokes for different folks, and in this case I think it traces back to fundamental differences in the perception of what the software does. Cheers, Fred

Takes all of five minutes to test. Should be "from" from ATC.

"When the conditions are right" is the crucial phrase here. Anything will generate condensation if the conditions are right enough. I've seen Herkybirds take off with massive tunnels of condensation from all propellers, and with condensation forming over the entire wing on rotation. Impressive, but rare. You get to a point where a phenomenon is too rare to model, and condensation (apart from vortices) on the A-10 would belong in this category IMO. Not that I wouldn't like to see it, but there are about a gazillion things I'd give higher priority over a phenomenon I'd only see once in a blue moon while looking over my shoulder while manoeuvring hard. I agree that it should be there on the F-18, or any aircraft capable of generating vortex lift! Cheers, Fred

Aren't you supposed to follow the normal flow of traffic? ;)

And I couldn't agree less. Seeing four legs in front of me - no thanks! One of those things which should only be implemented as a user option.

...and updated through GPS, with vertical dilution of precision insufficient for altimetry, even using the military P code. :) (Barring carrier phase tracking, which I dont know if it is used by the A-10 or what accuracy it would give.)

spotting missile launch from Su-25/Su-25T
effte replied to muamshai's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Team work, with a buddy eyes outside and trailing behind. Or stay out of the missile envelope. -
You're talking about wing tip vortices, and they were added quite some time ago. Smoke (really condensed water vapour) streaming off the wing tips when pulling hard. When initially added, they appeared way too soon/often in DCS:A10C. Don't know if it has been adjusted since. Regarding mist forming over the wing, that's much rarer on straight wings than on delta wings, such as on the F-16. On the A-10, seeing it would very much be the exception, so I can't say I miss it.

http://www.dictionary.com - Great help for those of us writing in English without it being our own language. Through = hole in the wing. Probably not exactly what the OP was about. :) (The exceptions would be multiplane aircraft - triplanes etc - and aircraft equipped with slotted flaps/slats. There the air can flow through the wings.)

There is no try. Just do. Hmm... perhaps I should restrict my crap movie dose for a while? :)
