I see RBJ did something about that unibrow of his? Can we have trim on a slider now? :megalol: (If you get it, you're halfway to old fart status!)

I bought a TCP when upgrading to TIR5 from TIR3. Gave it a good while, but eventually went back to the basic clip. The TCP only makes the tracking marginally better, but not enough to outweigh having to mess with it and have the weight of it on my head. If I used a headset all the time anyway, and if it didn't have the cable then maybe, just maybe, I would have converted.

Not to rain on your parade, but do make sure the glue on the sticker is of a kind which will not harm the shell of the helmet. General advice is not to put stickers or paint on helmets, as the glue in many stickers and the chemicals in many kinds of paint will weaken the helmet.

JDAMs thru' clouds w/JTAC: can you bomb "blind"?
effte replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
1) Exact coordinates. JTAC should, with a good map and good references, be able to give you good enough for CDU, and probably Mk84s I'd say. 30 to 50 meter precision. 2) Ground lasing. You need a cloud base high enough, and a drop precise enough, for the bomb to be in the basket where it can pick up the laser spot in time to allow it to guide onto the target when it comes out of the overcast. The more off your drop is, the more the bomb needs to correct and the higher the cloud base needs to be. -
Immel, great job confirming our suspicion. I can't download the track though - Megaupload says it is unavailable? Can't you attach it through the forum? It would be interesting to see. Still haven't seen this acknowledged by ED anywhere in the forums though. Have I missed it, or should we try to bring it to their attention? Both the dropped leading zeroes and the missing grid zones. Cheers, Fred

UTM coordinate fail, even using WarriorXs guide. What now?
effte replied to Ptroinks's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I guess the system is smart enough to assume the same hemisphere then. Good observation! However, I think I'll keep entering the NSEW. Sooner or later, you'll be around the Greenwich/date line/equator and it'll bite you... -
UTM coordinate fail, even using WarriorXs guide. What now?
effte replied to Ptroinks's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I think (99% certain) that it assumes fixed format. Two digits degrees latitude (three for longitude), two digits minutes latitude/longitude and any other digits you enter are inerpreted as minute decimals. No need to include the decimal point. Short and sweet: Enter N4312282. -
UTM coordinate fail, even using WarriorXs guide. What now?
effte replied to Ptroinks's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
If there is any doubt at all about what grid zone a coordinate falls in, the grid zone should be included. In other words, JTAC should include the grid zone in the nine-line. The A-10 JTAC not doing so is a bug. ED? You listening? -
A GCA is vastly different and I'd be very surprised (and impressed!) if it is hidden in the menus somewhere.

Only the current. You'll have to record the layers on climbout if you want the info.

Psst, Andy, I think that was "autoland". ;) "Autopilot produces 200 fpm descent in level hold" "Unable to reproduce on ground" There's a long list of those wonderful squawks out there on the international e-intrawebs.

Luckily that didn't work, as it would have been terribly annoying. :)

Hmmm... I can go into "Control LED state", check, uncheck, move the slider, do pretty much whatever I like and nothing happens. No amount of checking, moving, clicking "done" or whatever has any effect on the LEDs of my Warthog. Anyone experiencing the same thing? Oh, and they seriously need to get their act together with their software. We need a Foxy WH Edition. The trouble it is to reconfigure the WH is bordering on the ridiculous. Just spent quite some time setting all the DX buttons up as per default on the throttle to enable use of TARS via the MIC switch, pending TARS DX button compatibility. Of course this meant the WH Throttle showing up as a combined controller in the options and having to reconfigure everything in DCS. (This is where someone steps in to tell me there's a way to achieve the same thing in 30 seconds flat ;))

Great! I'm sure a lot of people were wondering how you felt about it. Now we know!

The INS will align in flight if it has to, so you do not have to wait for INS READY prior to taxi. It just takes significantly longer to align than if you are parked, and the resulting drift will be probably be worse - I expect by a lot. Not much of an issue if you have GPS available, but when you don't...

Avionics troubleshooting 101: Swap the L/H and R/H side units and see if the fault changes sides or disappears. Actually, that's probably the 201. First, you write it off as failure of the nut connecting the yoke to the seat at least two times...

In aircraft without A/P, it's still good to have a reference for the heading you want to be on. i use the heading bug all the time when flying, even when flying manually. Not aware of any systems integrated functionality in the A-10.

Patch installed without a hitch here. Only issue was it removed the UAC "Run as administrator" setting from my desktop shortcut, which caused a CTD after flying for 40 minutes. After having reset that, no problems.

F-104G. Imagine the length of the "how do I land this thing" thread? :D

Unfortunately, "infrequent" is the thing complete CADC failures are not at this point. I'm with MrYenko. I think they have hold of an MTBF indicating roughly how often the unit is squawked, which could be for very minor issues which do not really degrade the mission capability, and they have used this to model how often we get a complete failure.
-
Agreed. When we see components fail as frequently as the A-10 CADC, we take the aircraft out of service and leave it in the shop until the underlying failure has been found.

I thought I'd add the link to the Book on MGRS, for those who want to go to the source. DMA Technical Manual; Datums, Ellipsoids, Grids, and Grid Reference Systems. NGA, 1996.

Yes. Do read the caveats section, more in depth here, as that will bite you otherwise, and to fully grasp that bit you will probably need to at least have the basics down, but in general you can operate the Hog on a "push the right button in the right sequence" basis. That cuts down the learning curve and gets you up there doing things. Then, while you are having fun, figure out what the buttons do and why as you go. It becomes infinitely more rewarding and less confusing.
