  1. A vital piece that helps keep missions dynamic and interesting. It provides some hope for defence and support, particularly when there is only one chopper working in the support role, and that is fairly often. I hope you don't see this role as some sort of "bonus" to the team. It would exist in some form in every combat situation using ground forces. Many of the missions have been cut pretty thin already, removing it completely does improve them, in my opinion.
  2. Oh, yeah... I'm up for this.
  3. @Alpenwolf@rossmum Into the Desert... No guns for the Huey
  4. Never ends, does it?
  5. I'm starting to think I'm the only one who believes this is an issue... My sincere wish? Please fix the damn damage model on the A10's. Engine damage in particular, is immensely flawed. The "Flying Tank" is more a "Paper Tank" in DCS.

  6. This quest for "balance" or "fairness" is a bit ludicrous to me. Lets face it, it's a game and it's the GCI and ground war part that ticks off people the most. If one side has it going and the other doesn't, then you're in for a tough go. Air-to-air seem to enjoy themselves pretty much regardless of what's on the ground. Choppers are different. From a "putting out creates" perspective I disagree with caps. I also disagree with with armament caps on the aircraft (quantity, not types). It's a game, let them do their part until the end. Keep them in the air, keep them productive and they'll stay in the game. Red should be out performing blue choppers by miles when it come to crate delivery. At When Mountains Cry a day or two ago, I put a Hawk site about 3 miles or so from one of the Blue lakes. By myself, climbing the mountain then down to the lake, I'm guessing maybe 15 miles at best, took me an hour a twenty minutes to complete in a Huey, not including ammo truck, Huey equipped with guns and half load of fuel. Don't believe me? You try it. SU25's or missile equipped Mi24's, or KA50's sweep in and take it all out without ever getting shot at by a piece of ground equipment. It seems that Blue just works a little better together, more often. Add Mike-Delta to the mix and you've gotta really work to get past us. So instead of constantly asking for changes that will never end depending on who feels slighted today, Get in, get better, do the roles that are required at the moment rather than just the role you want to do, then it won't seem so one sided. I've never heard of the Blue side asking for crate caps.
  7. I am a great Huey pilot, not a great aircraft pilot, but I do have many of the aircraft (mostly WW2 but also A10, F5, F86, few others). Looking for a squad needing a chopper support role filled. Live in Toronto.
  8. So far the changes I see regarding the Huey are: Open Range; No Stingers, no troops Once Upon a Time in Dubai; No Stingers, no troops Into The Desert; No weapons (no rain? Too challenging for the pilots?) Two Towns; No weapons, no troops
  9. I assure you I've never done that. I have put 4 or 5 around something if I've nothing else to do. Must of been guys not on comm because we (Mike-Delta, I) would never really let someone do that intentionally. Usually, I'm focused on replacing what you guys destroy or getting vehicles out for Mike, but if you guys ended up destroying it then... what did it matter?
  10. And I can't spawn at FARP London in Open Range. Slot is disabled. I have to make the 40 mile sling trip to free up F14's first, before I can work defense at the FARP?
  11. This is a balancing point which allows the game to be both challenging AND fun. The Huey's are much slower, way more fragile, less potent, and its only navigation is a compass. The Gazelle is slow & fragile, extremely difficult to fly with fine finesse, requires you to hover, then change seats to fire (I believe these are some of the reasons it lacks players that choose to fly it often). Too many subtractions and additions risk what made the Cold War server popular to begin with. Challenging without the fun isn't going to make for popularity, and it's a busy server that makes the game fun & challenging. It's still the best place to be in my opinion. Nice to work with the team mentality and some real decent people. About the only thing I truly dislike now is the limiting of the number of crates I can put out. Worse when there are three or four Hueys. The kinds of crates are highly limited in most missions anyway, and when I'm prevented from putting out what is available to help in the defense of a base or FARP or the attacking of an enemy base or FARP, then the fun has ended for me, and mission can still go on for a couple of hours easily. Let's not forget it's a game. If it stops being that, then it stops being fun and people leave.
  12. Swedish delivery. Blue farp. @Alpenwolf @rossmum No Hueys at all. No ground vehicles anywhere.
  13. Hey Alpen, Possible bug... Count and killed everything on Nalchik, but there were 2 trucks in the compound on the north side of the airport (around the middle of the airport), that could not be killed. Ultimately, we fired TOE missiles at them and the exploded against the trucks, but no damage. I mention it because we used to kill them previously and we thought these trucks were stopping us from capturing the base. We did notice one vehicle north of the base in the field, so that may have been the issue but the mission ended before we could get to that one. Miccara
  14. SWEDISH DELIVERY Just finished playing it a few hours ago. No weapons for the Huey again, and for a real treat... after putting out a couple of crates and unpacking them, I returned to just outside the FARP and put out a crate. No matter what I did, Huey could not see it, would not pick it up. No message appears regarding hovering over the crate.
  15. I meant, I was checking it on the 24th of December.
  16. Hi Alpen... Just an FYI. Same issues with the Huey exists. No weapons, no troops as of the 24th.
  17. You got that right. That has been a frustration!
  18. Awesome. Thank you. Looking forward to the changes. May invest in LotAC...
  19. Humour folks. Just humour. Can’t believe I have to point that out.
  20. Dear Alpen: I have been a Cold War 1947 - 1991 server user for some time now. I signed up for SRS, Discord, Team Speak and probably a half dozen other things semi-needed to sell my soul to the DCS spirits of Beelzebub. Currently, I am experiencing an inadequacy of service which I had not previously considered. Please allow me to provide specific details, so that you can either pursue your professional prerogative and seek to rectify these difficulties or more likely (I suspect) so that you can have some entertaining reading material as you while away the working day smoking B&H and drinking Starbucks in your office. My intent to play on Cold War 1947 - 1991 was cancelled without warning, resulting in my spending an entire day sitting on my rear-end waiting for you to revive or at least explain. When this did not happen, I spent a further 57 minutes searching the forums for answers. God, there are some lunatics on the forums. Ungrateful bastards. I alleviated the boredom by playing with my testicles for a few minutes – an activity with which most of us gaming nerds are no doubt familiar with, and highly adept at. A return to the normally scheduled programming has yet to take place, several days later! This has resulted in a serious state of depression among some faithful. So far, your internet server’s downtime is roughly 100% – the hours between about 6 pm and 6am, Monday through Friday and most likely, the weekend. I have made 32 calls on my mobile phone to numbers I thought may be yours, based on rumours of your actual name and place of residence. Occasionally believing I had actually reached you on occasion, only to be exposed to a variety of disinterested individuals who are, it seems, highly skilled at verbal assault when awoken at 3:23am. Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a thousand other things to do rather than listen to the pratlings of a dissatisfied customer. So before we (the collective 'we' of the followers of Alpen's work) have another of those crucially important testicle moments to attend to, let me rap up. I thought DCS servers were mostly crap and more importantly, the users were mostly intolerant morons; that they had attained the holy piss-pot of god-awful team spirit and team cooperation; and that no one, anywhere, ever, could be more disinterested, less helpful or more obstructive to delivering quality experiences than the uncommitted amateurs that call themselves "Server Administrators" How surprised I was, when I discovered to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless shower of bastards are on the other servers. They are sputum-filled pieces of distended rectum, incompetents of the highest order. You, you, Alpenwolf, you shine like a brilliant beacon of success in the filthy mire of seemingly limitless inadequacy. That’s why I chose Cold War 1947 - 1991, that's why WE chose you, Aplen... because, well, there really isn’t anyone else we can turn to in our time of need. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and foolhardy quest to assuage my grief through random trial and error searches of servers showing similar mission and participant brilliance . I suggest you return the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to deliver recently. Excuses will be greeted initially with disbelief but quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused rage. I hear Mike-Delta has recalled his old unit and they are currently training in Brussels, for an assault attempt on your home, resulting in a coup regaining control of the COLD WAR server. You don't want that. Were I an angry man, I would send two small deposits, selected with great care from my cat’s litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for this denial of service, but since they would most likely become desiccated during transit (they would be satisfyingly moist at the time of posting though), and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did not experience both the rich aroma and delicate texture. BUT THEY WOULD BE the very embodiment of my feelings towards you during these difficult times. May you rot in Hell, Have a nice day. Miccara
  21. Where has my server gone???
  22. Musings of a fantasy, fighter and Huey pilot. The A10 appeals to my sense of "get in, kill ground targets, get out" What's questionable to me is, the A10 has "1,200 pounds of Titanium Armour unlike the Air Force's fighter planes, and is designed to withstand hits from light antiaircraft cannons. An A-10 once returned to base after being hit by a missile." Why does the the A10 in this game go down so easily? It is known as the a 'Flying Tank". Certainly its reputation is earned in battle? It's harder to shoot down Mi24's in the DCS. Really can't be right... is it?
  23. Thank you for the hard work! I'll be there!
  24. I will certainly be looking at my settings for the next mission. I do like the sling load challenge. I wasn't attacked during the process, I was just saying that being watchful for attack (being an unfamiliar mission), added to my stress! I really think my screen settings were a problem.
