Most scenarios on our server are set up this way. We're ironing out bugs all the time, but you can fly against modern jets armed with heat seekers only nearly all of the time. Look for =31 COG= in the server list. It's been reasonably busy over the last few weeks - but it comes and goes. Any specific requests then PM me and I'll do my best to accomodate what people want.

I know this - hence wanting to know the correct behaviour of the instrument. As I said in post #1 I think it should be magnetic. Viper knows his stuff, so I can't just write off his "Russians use True" comment as wrong. It just need clarification from the Leatherneck guys as to what the thing is actually trying to show us:smilewink: Andy

OK, maybe I was exaggerating just a little bit using the phrase "screw up" :), it doesn't stop me from actually landing in bad weather. It does however introduce an extra error, and one I'd like to able to account for. It's not impossible over the next few years that we'll be flyng DCS planes in different global locations, where the variation is a more significant factor. (about 15E for the Vegas area when we get NTTR for example) Even at the values on the current map it has an effect when using RSBN radials to define a position, or work out a heading to steer over larger distances. One of the fun things (for me anyway:book:) is to practice older navigation stuff and still try to get to a target area/airport. Although I agree you have to accept the limitations of hardware and allow for errors, not knowing exactly what the instruments are trying to show you makes that more difficult. (Some googling seems to indicate that RSBN should be able to determine azimuth to an accuracy of between 0.2-1 degrees, although some of the sites I looked at were in German so I'm not sure if I'm reading it right!) I think magnetic should be the correct reference, but I'm aware that Viper knows his stuff, so I'm not sure. If he is correct, then why do some of the FC3 planes have a deviation card mounted in their cockpits? (it's only eye candy I know - but I guess they're there because the cockpits they're modelled on probably had them)

My assumtion based on Vipers comment was that it would simply be setup as a constant offset based on the area of operations. Since the -21 can't fly all that far it would probably be an acceptable compromise. However, until I read that I was under the impression that pretty much all aviation used magnetic north as the reference (the exception being flights near the poles where true becomes the reference). Pressing the calibration button should reference the gyro to a magnetic sensor - a more automated version of correcting for gyro drift in light aircraft. Anyway - 5-6 degrees is enough to screw up a precision approach so it would be interesting to hear what the intended behaiviour of the instrument actually is. :)

Thanks Viper :) - I didn't know that was how they did it.

Yes, and it also exhibits the issue when getting into a hot start jet, which should have that step complete already surely? (again I accept I may be doing something wrong!)

DSMS page, Weapons are all red/missing

Also, if you are doing a cold start it's possible to be pressing the "Load" buttons before the plane is ready for you to do it. Next time you do a cold start, as soon as you have APU power turn on the two CDU switches. Let the thing start aligning as you complete other tasks. If you watch the CDU screen, then you will see something like "DTS upload complete" on the top line of the screen. Once that is done, you can go ahead and press the "Load all" button. I'm not sure if this is actually your issue, but it's something to consider at least. -
I think that the gyrocompass aligns itself to a different reference compared to other aircraft in DCS:World. For example, the Easterly runway at Kutaisi has a magnetic heading of 068, but the Mig seems to show about 072-073. Is it aligning to true North rather than magnetic, or am I doing something daft?:) I'm not sure if it should be showing true, but this does have an effect on precision approaches. (Variation is about 5E according to RW documents, so my "True North" idea seems to hold water) Sorry if this has already been reported, I couldn't see anything though!

It occurs to me that since they're not listed, it may be that once you uncheck "unlimited ammo" against each airfield that they are no longer available (since they don't appear in the inventory). I can't test that right now but will do later.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is actually a bug but it seems that way. On our server, I have a mission set up so that no aircraft can load long range A2A missiles (AIM-120 R-27 etc.) To do this I have simply removed them from the airfield inventories. Players spawning in the Mig can no longer load either the Countermeaures dispenser or the ECM pod. I've checked a few times to make sure I'm not doing anything stupid, and can't see it! Are they listed under something else in the editor? Thanks :) (great module BTW)
-
Yes :). The APU + GEN is only so that your navigation equipment doesn't loose it's alignment. If you turn it off the ground crew will still repair you, but then you'll have to sit through a realingment+DTS upload again.

I've just read the maual (linked in the thread below) and it does indeed say that you should electrically cage the sight befor "pushing over" into the dive. Up until now, I've been rolling in at the target A-10 style, because that's what I'm comfortable with, but the comment would seem to suggest that in the Sabre it's better (or at least acceptable) to fly straight at the target and nose forward. It also suggests that the pipper should extinguish when the correct release parameters are met, but I'm not 100% clear on that. Does anyone know what the usual procedure F-86 pilots would use to perform a dive bomb? I'm defo more comfortable rolling in from an abeam position, because I can squint at the target area and pick my victim :), but it is harder to roll out on a perfect heading as you run in. Also - I don't know if it's a bug but in the bombing mode, the reticle doesn't return to the "centre" position when being electrically caged. It does in guns, but in the bomb mode the button doesn't move the pipper.
-
I had the same problem at first, it seems that once you are in the dive, maneuver the pipper over the target, then press and hold the cage button. Nothing seems to happen, but you can then go ahead and press and hold pickle, and whilst holding it release the cage button. The bombs will release if they can hit the target. (It took me a few goes to get it working) I'm no expert, and it would be interesting to see some info on how that part of the sight works, along with the correct parameter for a bombing attack. It helped me to use the reminders on the manual pipper control on the left hand side of the cockpit. (305kts, and 10,000 feet above the target if I remember correctly, I can't check at the moment!) If I rolled in whilst flying that profile then the bombs seemed to release a bit more predicatbly. It's a bit more of a challenge than doing it with an A-10C for sure! Out of interest is there any data out there on dive bomb profiles?

I'm with Frostie - if you just explain to people why you could do without the swearing, then most people will try to accomodate you (minus the odd "slip of the tounge"!). Most of it (the swearing) is the perceived "amongst my peers" feeling people have when they're comfortable on a given teamspeak server. I honestly think that if you explained it to whoever you're flying with then they'll most likely be happy to modify their behaviour - which may take time. Not asking because you want to avoid imposing on them is a non starter. Teamspeak denies us the vast amount of visual communication that goes on between folk in a normal face to face conversation, so we don't pick up on body language cues. You have to just explain it to people - if you sit in a TS channel not saying anything, then they'll assume it's fine and carry on. It only has to be "Guys, there's some kids that can hear TS here so can we keep it clean please?". If they don't stop then they're not interested - and neither should you be :). But....you'll never eliminate it completely. You just can't. It's too commonplace to be assured you would never hear something. It's also more or less acceptable depending on the culture of a particular speaker. Unless you fly regularly with the same bunch of people, who can learn your own preferences, you have no chance at all. I would suggest you look at ways to minimise what the family hear first (could you for example manage an earpiece rather than a headset?) - or only use teamspeak when no one else is around. The best you can hope for is a "mostly not swearing" TS - whether that's acceptable or not is up to you.

Wierd - I didn't even get that far, I was having the same problem as the op. There were some settings in the "RDP-tcp" dialogue that looked promising, but never worked for me. I (incorrectly it would seem) assumed that 3D stuff wouldn't work over an RDP connection full stop. The OS is Win 2k8. Interesting to see the differences in setups!:D
-
Thankyou sir, I'll try tonight and let you know.
-
That's interesting - did you need to alter some setting somewhere or did it work without fiddling? I just couldn't make it play that way - although I'm no expert :). It was almost at the point where I was going to give up, and then tried "one more thing" in TightVNC, and hey presto DCS started no bother.

Towsim - apologies if this has already been asked, I've searched in the forums and not found anything (although that doesn't mean it's not there :)) When I install Aries (which is great BTW - thankyou!), Tacview stops recording files. If I then uninstall it, the problem remains. I've had a look at the export.lua and can't see what the issue is. The only way I've been able to resolve the issue is by reinstalling DCS World. I'm sure there's an easy answer to this, but I'm too stupid to spot it! Any ideas?
-
I too get this sometimes (when I'm trying to join an aircraft module I do own). Sometimes joining another server and then going into the one you want works, other times a restart does it. I'm not sure what actually causes the issue though.

Guys - that whole other thread was all about trying to exactly what you are talking about. I agree with Maverick and all the others that the servers aimed at large player numbers need to run missions the way they do. However, I believe strongly that there are a large number of DCS players who want to do more co-operative type missions. The problem is that to make something like that work you need to make it a lot more formal than simply "join and fly". You need to do briefings, and you need people to play their role. It sounds simple, but it isn't. That doesn't mean that I think it's impossible - more like it needs a lot of work to organise. That probably goes with a lot of failure on the way. I'm willing to try - and I have a server if you have something you want to try and put up. I look at things like "Op Joint warrior" and it shows that people are willing to do this stuff. (With all of the usual caveats involving timezones etc). The big popular servers fill a really important role in DCS multiplayer, one which it dearly needs - I would like to offer an alternative and I would really like to see some of the guys from the 104th/51st etc. come along and take part from time to time. Variety is the spice of life and all that :). If you want to get involved in trying to make this happen, then lets talk about it. It might not work, and it almost certainly will be a hard road to make it happen. It should be possible to have a bit of fun along the way though, surely?

TMS-L/CMS/MIC/Pinky necessary? Where are the flaps buttons?
carrollhead replied to Archer7's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Oops:cry: - I read that you had something in between a cheap one and a Warthog:lol: my bad! Radio menu's from the MIC switch allow you to speak to ATC, other flights, JTACs etc. They just open a menu that allows you to contact the units that are listening/transmitting on a particular frequency. The A-10C has three radios, so you get three buttons to select them with. FM/AM/UHF is just the label used to describe which radio. FM at the back (Frequency Modulation) AM at the front (Amplitude Modulation) UHF in the middle (Ultra High Frequency) The throttle pinky switch is a sort of "lights master mode", rather than press lots of switches to get the aircraft dark, you just move the switch. If it's in the center "off" position, then your lights as set on the right hand lights panel won't do what you told them. The switch on the left hand side of the cockpit is the landing/taxi light switch - sort of like a car headlight. It's for use when taxying and....you guessed it landing :). and I agree - CMS auto is the only way to go if you want to lose all of your countermeasures before you get to the target area . Sorry about the confusion - I just assumed you had a stick with very few buttons. -

Which joystick are you using? -
You'll get a few replies I think - you'd be welcome to come and fly with us, link in my sig. There are quite a few groups, and finding the right one for you is important. Feel free to come along and say hello. We'll be flying tonight - probably quite late for you around 21:30-22:00 or so your time. Our TS details are on the website, so as long as you have a working microphone and headset you're good to go.

Multiplayer few years ago and now - from FC 1.12b to DCS
carrollhead replied to Falcon_S's topic in Multiplayer
<Blaze> and [Maverick] - thanks for your replies. I also agree wholeheartedly with your reasons for using the missions you do - there should be no need to justify being the most popular server at the moment. However, the reason there are lots of smaller passworded ones is simply that other people sometimes want to play a different style of game. It would be good I think, if there was room for more events in the style of "Op Joint Warrior" though surely? Again, I'm not against trying to do it myself - but I'd rather focus on trying to do something that people in the community want instead of what I think they want. I may well be wasting my time, but I'd like to think not (and have already got a game or two sorted with Ragtag - Thanks Blooze). I see this thread a good place to start talking about it :) @Super - how's it going?
