Mission: Overwatch - plane veers HARD on takeoff
chaos replied to kharne's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Check all the things that affect nosewheel steering and braking... *rudder pedal calibration (if you have pedals) *check Emer. Brake Handle in *check Hydr. Pressures (L and R) The Emer Brake System is serviced by the R hydr. Sys. so that would be my prime- suspect. Did you accidentally pull it out? Please explain because, if this is true, I've been doing it the wrong way for 24 years ;-) -
Welcome back then :D ! Aye to the rudder pedals. I'd like to have a pair as well. Good to see 'old-timers' coming back....

Realism is not scaled back in training missions. What can I say? Obviously your callsign is "Maverick" .. :) To really prove you're actually Chuck Yeager, try it with some crosswind and a little bit of turbulence. I want to see the track as evidence :)

I think we're not talking about the same thing here... It has nothing to do with how soft or hard the landing is. I believe certification allows descent-rates in excess of 600fpm but that's not what we're talking about. It's the amount of runway you chew up by landing fast (ie. forward speed... not vertical).
-
I'm looking forward to commenting on it ;)
-
Thx for the heads-up, BiPod. No use in repeating your analysis... Obviously the issue is still there.
-
Just did a quick test... I compared landing distance at 30.000lbs. using the real A-10 procedures (TO-1A-A10) and the "Kenan" procedure (flying 25kts. too fast) _and_ switching of the anti-skid. Odd outcome... I got more or less the same landing distance with either technique. Either my fLyinG skiLlz are not up to par or there's something funny going on with the ground-modeling... I'm going to 'investigate' further. Might open up a new topic in the appropriate forum.

This is where you're 'wrong'. A 'soft' landing isn't always a 'good' one. Your aim should be to plant it in the designated spot _on-speed_. At 30.000lbs. you're going 25 kts too fast if you're flying @ 155kts. Your landing distance required will go up by a few hundred feet. Now, the runway lenghts in DCS are not that critical but an anti-skid failure and landing a little long at too high of an approach speed will have you end up in the approach lights.... on the other end of the runway. "Oh Kenan... you've got some 'splaining too dooo...!! " :-) PS; I haven't tried it yet but just fail the L-HYD sys. and try to land it at Batumi using your technique...
-
As far as I can tell you have to calculate that yourself. I imagine A-10 pilots calculating approach speeds during mission planning and probably performing a cursory check in actual flight. A bit of Kentucky Windage to come up with a round figure I suppose... effte; according to the manual, they're not allowed to rely on AOA indexer exclusively. It has to be the higher of either calculated speed or what AOA indexer tells them. Actual weight is therefore relevant.

Roger that. Usually alignment in the air is good enough for "re-aligning" ADI/HSI only and not for navigation purposes. In order to align the platform one needs a static position to find the local vertical. I understand that in-flight alignment takes a bit longer but it would seem impossible to me to achieve the same accuracy as alignment on the ground. Then again... there's GPS updating so disregard all of the above... ;)
-
GGTharos, I'm pretty sure you cannot align an INS in-flight. Did you mean HARS?

I've been looking through practically every *.lua file but, for the life of me, can't figure out how to export data to a file or separate window. It's not even clear _what_ data can be extracted from the sim. I don't find the wiki pages terribly helpful either. A lot of the information is outdated... Anyone care to help me out and point me in the right direction? Many thanks...

Hope for another FC2 compatibility patch
chaos replied to Distiler's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Although FC is not dead by any means... it is time to move on. I don't see a need for yet another FC upgrade. As soon as DCS:Fighter is available one can play AirQuake, formation flying and whatnot to your heart's content... right here in DCS. FC upgrade takes away valuable time and money from developing DCS:Fighter. FC is redundant... whether you're a hardcore simmer or a weekend warrior. That's just my 2 cents. -
congrats ED. Thanks for all the work. So... like... ummmm... what's the next... y'know... module called... like. FIRST! :)
-
Don't think so. Love to 'fly' a Hornet but that seems unlikely. With ED cont®acts in the Reserve it, most likely, is an F-15 or F-16. I'd prefer the -16 over the -15 simply because it can do more. 'Problem' is, it's been done reasonably well before (even for today's standards). -15 Is just plane (get it?) boring. :-) Whatever, I'm having a blast (hehe... I'm on a roll) with 'the Hawg'. I swear I'd buy DCS:Predator (boooooring) if only to support the guys and gals in Moscow.
-
F-16 for sure... I think. :-)

Things haven't improved... It recognizes me.. "logging in Chaos"... following page I'm still not logged in...
-
Do not follow the steering bars... it's a WIP. Better hide them switching the "PTR" switch on the NMSP to "stow" and fly the deviation bars on the ADI and HSI instead.

Hi, For the past few days I've had problems accessing the beta-forum. Sometimes it works but half the time it shows the "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page..." message. I've had no problems in the past and my email and password remain unchanged. I've deleted cookies and cache but that had no effect.

I failed on the taxi-test so I could've had 81% :-) Mind you, the landing wasn't the smoothest but the gear was still servicable. Oh.. and no autopilot to keep level either. That would be cheating! I have the *trk :) Regarding flaps... it's actually fine to retract the flaps since it is so close to the flap-limit speed as it is. I'd say drop the bankangle requirement (make it 30 or so) because 60 degrees will get you too close to the stall regime with flaps up... -

Geskes, I've completed my first exercise and had a dismal score of 27%. Some observations... 1) Taxi challenge is fun but I don't consider this part of the exercise (which is to fly the pattern by the numbers). I would leave the scoring out. By all means, keep the hummer as a follow-me.. nice touch! 1a) Can we start from the tarmac i.s.o. shelter? My aircraft is parked in such a way that 1 out of 2 times my left wing touches the wall and I'm unable to exit the shelter... 2) Have the hummer drive off-road, back to the parking area. I was waiting for him to clear the runway which he never did. After a minute or two I taxied past him. I have no patience :) 3) After Take-off. I should be able to keep the flaps at take-off setting as it'll help me control the aircraft better while flying the circuit at 180kts (which is rather slow). 4) 60deg. bank during turns in the pattern is a little bit too aggressive for my liking. If that is part of the challenge then fine. I'd prefer 30deg. 5) Have each challenge scored separately in the final tally. I'd like to know how I did throughout the exercise as opposed to having a final (total) score. Great mission and a lot of fun. Don't take the above as criticism, I had blast flying it. I can see you put a lot of work in it. PS; Ha!... 71% -

I must be doing something wrong... There's no engine start in my control options... only "Engine Control Panel" and "Flight Control". In "Flight Control" I've assigned the '[' and ']' keys to "Throttle Up Step" (left and right). Also tried it for "Throttle Up" (left and right). I can't get it to work... -

It's not too hard... it's a challenge :) I'd love to try it out but I'm on a laptop and I can't find a keycombo that lets me move the throttles from off to idle. Therefor this mission is a non-starter for me. Engines have to be running. To elaborate... my keyboard has a numpad but it is limited. I've tried re-assigning keys but that didn't work either. If anyone can help me get the engines started I'll show you how to get 100 points :) -
Thanks Lobo! That actually makes sense. BTW: are you "Lobo" from the Flanker days? Way back when got drunk in the Flanker O'-Club and getting slapped around with smelly trouts? :-)
