  1. As far as I can tell you have to calculate that yourself. I imagine A-10 pilots calculating approach speeds during mission planning and probably performing a cursory check in actual flight. A bit of Kentucky Windage to come up with a round figure I suppose... effte; according to the manual, they're not allowed to rely on AOA indexer exclusively. It has to be the higher of either calculated speed or what AOA indexer tells them. Actual weight is therefore relevant.
  2. Roger that. Usually alignment in the air is good enough for "re-aligning" ADI/HSI only and not for navigation purposes. In order to align the platform one needs a static position to find the local vertical. I understand that in-flight alignment takes a bit longer but it would seem impossible to me to achieve the same accuracy as alignment on the ground. Then again... there's GPS updating so disregard all of the above... ;)
  3. GGTharos, I'm pretty sure you cannot align an INS in-flight. Did you mean HARS?
  4. I've been looking through practically every *.lua file but, for the life of me, can't figure out how to export data to a file or separate window. It's not even clear _what_ data can be extracted from the sim. I don't find the wiki pages terribly helpful either. A lot of the information is outdated... Anyone care to help me out and point me in the right direction? Many thanks...
  5. Although FC is not dead by any means... it is time to move on. I don't see a need for yet another FC upgrade. As soon as DCS:Fighter is available one can play AirQuake, formation flying and whatnot to your heart's content... right here in DCS. FC upgrade takes away valuable time and money from developing DCS:Fighter. FC is redundant... whether you're a hardcore simmer or a weekend warrior. That's just my 2 cents.
  6. congrats ED. Thanks for all the work. So... like... ummmm... what's the next... y'know... module called... like. FIRST! :)
  7. Don't think so. Love to 'fly' a Hornet but that seems unlikely. With ED cont®acts in the Reserve it, most likely, is an F-15 or F-16. I'd prefer the -16 over the -15 simply because it can do more. 'Problem' is, it's been done reasonably well before (even for today's standards). -15 Is just plane (get it?) boring. :-) Whatever, I'm having a blast (hehe... I'm on a roll) with 'the Hawg'. I swear I'd buy DCS:Predator (boooooring) if only to support the guys and gals in Moscow.
  8. F-16 for sure... I think. :-)
  9. Things haven't improved... It recognizes me.. "logging in Chaos"... following page I'm still not logged in...
  10. Do not follow the steering bars... it's a WIP. Better hide them switching the "PTR" switch on the NMSP to "stow" and fly the deviation bars on the ADI and HSI instead.
  11. Hi, For the past few days I've had problems accessing the beta-forum. Sometimes it works but half the time it shows the "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page..." message. I've had no problems in the past and my email and password remain unchanged. I've deleted cookies and cache but that had no effect.
  12. I failed on the taxi-test so I could've had 81% :-) Mind you, the landing wasn't the smoothest but the gear was still servicable. Oh.. and no autopilot to keep level either. That would be cheating! I have the *trk :) Regarding flaps... it's actually fine to retract the flaps since it is so close to the flap-limit speed as it is. I'd say drop the bankangle requirement (make it 30 or so) because 60 degrees will get you too close to the stall regime with flaps up...
  13. Geskes, I've completed my first exercise and had a dismal score of 27%. Some observations... 1) Taxi challenge is fun but I don't consider this part of the exercise (which is to fly the pattern by the numbers). I would leave the scoring out. By all means, keep the hummer as a follow-me.. nice touch! 1a) Can we start from the tarmac i.s.o. shelter? My aircraft is parked in such a way that 1 out of 2 times my left wing touches the wall and I'm unable to exit the shelter... 2) Have the hummer drive off-road, back to the parking area. I was waiting for him to clear the runway which he never did. After a minute or two I taxied past him. I have no patience :) 3) After Take-off. I should be able to keep the flaps at take-off setting as it'll help me control the aircraft better while flying the circuit at 180kts (which is rather slow). 4) 60deg. bank during turns in the pattern is a little bit too aggressive for my liking. If that is part of the challenge then fine. I'd prefer 30deg. 5) Have each challenge scored separately in the final tally. I'd like to know how I did throughout the exercise as opposed to having a final (total) score. Great mission and a lot of fun. Don't take the above as criticism, I had blast flying it. I can see you put a lot of work in it. PS; Ha!... 71%
  14. Disregard previous post...
  15. I must be doing something wrong... There's no engine start in my control options... only "Engine Control Panel" and "Flight Control". In "Flight Control" I've assigned the '[' and ']' keys to "Throttle Up Step" (left and right). Also tried it for "Throttle Up" (left and right). I can't get it to work...
  16. It's not too hard... it's a challenge :) I'd love to try it out but I'm on a laptop and I can't find a keycombo that lets me move the throttles from off to idle. Therefor this mission is a non-starter for me. Engines have to be running. To elaborate... my keyboard has a numpad but it is limited. I've tried re-assigning keys but that didn't work either. If anyone can help me get the engines started I'll show you how to get 100 points :)
  17. Thanks Lobo! That actually makes sense. BTW: are you "Lobo" from the Flanker days? Way back when got drunk in the Flanker O'-Club and getting slapped around with smelly trouts? :-)
  18. Looking at the video posted on <YUCK>Facebook</YUCK> you can see that the speedbrakes do not always retract in sync. Can this effect be reproduced in-sim? I don't have enough time to investigate this right now but I wonder how this can be done and why? The video can be found at -> http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1556007252446&oid=163395661404&comments Look for it at 00:47. Does anybody know?
  19. There are fuel bowsers, GPU's and whatnot in-game. I don't know the names of the vehicles off the top of my head but they're there alright. Just open up the encyclopedia...
  20. Headspace, Even though you didn't single me out, I would like to comment on your post. What I'm trying to accomplish is keeping things as simple as possible. It has nothing to do with ego-boosting. It has everything to do with trying to help someone who's apparently having difficulties with the sim. ...and this is where it gets confusing, unnecessarily so, for a beginner. You have one set of 'rules' for one phase of flight... and the opposite for another. Wouldn't it be nice to have a technique that works for both phases? That's what I'm trying to achieve. I'm a great believer of the keep it simple principle. I like your videos just fine and I think it is great that people are finding them useful. The more people get hooked on this sim, the better. However, the fact that somebody (i.e. me) thinks he has a better way of explaining things is part and parcel of being in this community. It is up to the person having trouble to decide what works best for him.
  21. I totally spaced out on that... for some reason I thought it was 62Kb... how can that be? :) Anyway, my trk is more than 8MB so even RAR-ed it will not be small enough. Somebody asked for a trk file of the complete landing training mission... Sorry for raising a non-issue. You can delete the thread now :)
  22. Hi, I'd like to upload a *.trk file but have been unable to do so in the past 3 days. Everything is fine until I press the "Upload" key in the pop-up window... "Sending request to forums.eagle.ru..." followed after a couple of minutes by; "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." I've seen others post with an upload after I've tried it so it's probably a local issue but I'd like to know what I can do. thanks
  23. I have to disagree with this. I get what you're saying however, we're discussing operation within the normal flight-regime. Flying on the backside of the power curve does not fit that description. You've let things get out of hand by that point. The only re-course at that point is decreasing pitch. The backside of the powercurve is but a small percentage of the entire curve. You shouldn't be there in the first place. To add this to the question on "how to land" muddies the discussion needlessly.

    IFR

It's nice isn't it? The only thing that bothers me a little bit is the slight delay between stick input and seeing the results on the ADI. The ADI lag makes it harder to make corrections accurately.
  25. Landing Training Mission; I've followed the instructions to the letter but I've set the HSI to 123 as instructed. It works flawlessly. In general I find the instructions (for a novice) too quick. A lot of extra information I could do without. I have enough time to position myself. I would've timed the turn to final a bit sooner so as to not overshoot the localizer. There's one glaring mistake; The instructor explains that the AOA indexer but the accompanying text does not 'say' the same thing. The text doesn't reflect the way it is implemented in the cockpit. Love the crew-chief running to meet me... I've never had somebody do that for me :) One last thing... there's UH-1 half burried right of the runway...
