Pyroflash, Come on... now you're just being silly. Can you back that up? Give me examples, please. If you're reffering to the AF crash you couldn't be further from the truth. Although it seems to be 'cut n dried' when you read the report superficially, once you delve a little deeper a different picture emerges. I can give you my take on the accident but it doesn't belong in this thread. Don't make blanket statements like that... it makes you appear ignorant and I know, from you previous posts, that you're not.

I think we're going off topic... I'd just like to add my 2 cents. :-) I see a lot of uninformed comments being made by wannabees, private pilots and 'almost commercial' pilots. Pyro, The internal workings of an altimeter is of very little interest to a pilot. Its nice to know but not essential knowledge when dealing with a pitot static problem. The mental capacity to engineer yourself out of a situation is simply not available in the heat of the moment. Besides, what are you going to do...? Breakout your Leatherman tool and fix it? No.. you collect information from different sources and compare. Isolate the problem and move on. I hate to admit it but my technical knowledge of the aircraft that I fly is very limited. I hate to admit it because it is professional pride, not lack of essential knowledge. However, mr. Boeing believes it is not necessary to provide me with this knowledge and he has been right sofar. I have passed my checks every single time since I started flying for the airlines 20 years ago. Must be doing something right... James r. Wright, May I ask why you stopped short of a commercial license? Surely completing 15 hrs. of flying to finish the course wasn't insurmountable? Your former boss hasn't got a clue what commercial flying is all about and neither do you. It's definitely not 'driving a bus'. Back on topic... I do feel that 'real pilots' have a definite leg up compared to wannabees when discussing FM's. Certainly in the era of FSX and the like. The devil is in the details and one can only understand the details if one actually flies an aircraft (big or small). It's all about the 'feel' and past experience of actual flying. Sounds vague but one only needs to talk to a real pilot or wannabe for a minute to figure out who is who... However, for the first time in more than 2 decades of flying simulators, the lines are starting to blur with the release of DCS products. The fidelity is such that one gets a very good impression of what happens in certain flight regimes. There's always room for improvement but that also goes for the Level D sims in our training dept. It'll never be perfect... that's why it is called a simulation. :-) Regards, Chaos

I'm not a big fan of GA movies in general but I have to admit that this one is extremely well done. Good on ya, mate!

'A hundred feet over hell'. It's a book about a FAC in Vietnam who used the very same technique to fool the N Vietnamese over the DMZ. Flying a Cessna Birddog made him an even easier target not having the advantage of speed. Highly recommended reading!

I can't believe you guys/gals! Look at Matts video again... LOOK!.. no seriously... LLOOOOOKK! Is that a Messerschmitt ME-109 going down in flames? YES!
-
Meh... that was poor marksmanship... cr@p pilot. I can do a far better job in DCS A-10C :)
-
Coooool vid, mate. I was actually wondering if I was looking at real footage or something from the sim. The "amateur camera" handling was a nice touch!
-
Thanks for the screenshot. The only thing I now need is the actual product and a pair of rudder pedals.. :-)
-
Interesting reading. Thanks for putting this together. Would love to hear how the simulation engine handles all of this. Possibly a teeny-weenie video to go along with that :-) Good luck with developing this product. I'll buy it for sure... development notes or not!

Ah, I see... you're an expert. Send your accident rep. to the russian aviation authorities and save them the time... Ah!... another expert! I guess I (and thousands of passengers) escaped certain death when I was that young. IDIOTS...

Windows 8 Consumer preview- Don't waste your time
chaos replied to Slayer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Guys, It's a preview... According to many sources it is possible to switch back to the 'classic' desktop. I for one would love an OS to rule all the of the different devices... tablet, PC and phone. No issues with synching, everything in the same place and a UI that is consistent. The first iteration might be a little bit iffy but it's definitely the way forward... -
It's not the F-18. It's wings can be folded and ED admitted it'll be fixed wing fighter. Hence: F-16. DISCUSS! :)
-
It's pure speculation at this point but maybe they'd like to wait -after- the introduction of EDGE. Having an incremental fix now when it's almost a given that new issues will crop up with the new terrain engine is a 'wasted' effort. Get 'everything' done in one fell swoop sorta thing... Then again... I know nothing... I'm from Barcelona...

This post made me laugh... and I've had a pretty crappy day. :)

As per T.O. A-10A 1. control yaw 2. throttles-MAX 3. gear-up 4. stores-jettison 5. safe alt. and airspeed above 150 flaps-up I'd assume the proc. is the same for the C-model. There's a good reason to do it in this order...

Look, I'm not making this up. ASUS themselves acknowledged the problem. Google it if you're truly interested (or check the link provided in an earlier post)...
-
No... I've seen it happen without touching anything. It's a known issue with this laptop.
-
To elaborate a little further... I can't get the color right. Flesh tones are off and I even tried calibrating with a 'spider'. It's calibrated alright... As far as performance goes, I can't complain too much... it's a laptop after all. I don't like the fact that it is throttling back the clockspeed to conserve battery power. Mine is always plugged into a wallsocket. DCS:WH and SB Pro work fine although I'd expect it does better on a desktop of a similar spec. One very annoying 'feature' is that the cursor sometimes jumps back a few words. If you're typing without paying too much attention to the screen, you end up with a completely incoherent piece of text. ASUS has acknowledged the problem and updated the BIOS. For some it alleviated some of the problems. I haven't flashed mine yet because I intend to reinstall the whole thing. I bought it a couple of months ago and haven't had time to do it yet. Again... not all the issues are resolved with the new BIOS. I,d stay well clear of it. No more soup for ASUS! Anyway... hope it helps to clarify a few things. Good luck with your quest. One piece of advice... you get what you pay for. Good things usually don't come cheap. I was fooled this time around.

for any issues regarding ASUS G74. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?3076-G74SX-Keyboard-Issues-ATK-1.0.00010-BIOS-202-Available-(SOLVED)/page12 I meant LCD.... getting to old for this s.... :-)
-
I'd advise against the ASUS. I own the G74. There are keyboard and mousepad issues which are well documented. There is a BIOS update available which may or may not resolve -some issues. For instance... the keypad is not really a keypad.. i.e. no view keys for DCS. I find the CRT screen also lacking in color accuracy. Looks nice on paper but I wish I'd chosen a different brand...

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
chaos replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Man, that was truly funny. You should be a stand-up comedian :-) -
What seems to be getting lost here is the intent of ED. P-51 "for demonstration purposes" does not mean lo fidelity or a one-off product. Hopefully this product (P-51) will spin off into a completely different era of aerial warfare (including appropriate terrain and opposition). Maybe(!) we'll get a Korea or Vietnam type simulation along the way as well. I'm not privy to ED's business plan but I would welcome many (professional) developers as 3d party contributors and build on the framework that is the DCS engine. I can't wait to fork over my $50 or whatever to play P-51D. It's not like we're drowning in flightsims anyway... Cheer up people!
