  1. Nineline….thanks for the tip on cold starts!
  2. Is there any way to add options for a cold start so we can practice starting the aircrsrt and systems as well as flying to the target? Also, can we NOT have the mission automatically end after the target is destroyed so we can work on landing to? I mean, I get why people want an instant mission generator but at least we could have the option of cold start and landing to practice within the generated engine
  3. Glad you figured it out. I was going to say that years ago I had a similar issue with LGBs landing all over. Turned out it was the map…I had never deleted the contents of my FXO (and whatever the other one is) file like you should after each patch. Doing so did the trick
  4. I have the same issue. My McAfee is long expired since I never use my PC to browse internet. So I’m guessing I have just windows defender. Can someone tell me how to “add DCS as an exception”? I’m not too good with this stuff
  5. Thank you Reflected! I can’t take advantage of the Chief start up b/c I have, at most, 2 hours to play and I hate accelerating time in the air. But wow…great missions AND- an under valued quality- the triggers all seem to work and/or there are backups. Either way, I don’t feel like I’m “on rails” like I do when playing a campaign, not doing something exactly like I’m the designer wants and the mission won’t advance. I feel like I’m free to fly the mission how I want WITHIN the parameters of the mission briefing lastly, THANK YOU for adding AAR during ingress (or shortly after takeoff) for some missions. AAR is a very realistic requirement in modern air missions and adds a lot of immersion. I enjoy hitting the tanker on the way to the target as they do in real life. Not so much when the mission is over, I’m on the way home, dinner is almost ready in real life and wife is bugging me about finishing up. (Again, limited time).
  6. If 4 years ago you would have told me that my 1TB SSD wouldn’t have enough storage space for ONE game, I’d think you were crazy. Yet I find that I have to uninstall a few modules, campaigns I am not currently playing and maps I own. In fact, now that I’m playing 2 campaigns and a retribution campaign on KOLA, the only other maps I can keep are Syria and ONE other (Sinai, PG, SA, etc). Any more than that, I only have like 150GB free and that has caused problems with big patch downloads. not a big deal swapping maps out I suppose. But i think the only real solution is to upgrade to a 4TB. Hell, I’d fill out a 2TB
  7. Oh….you may see them…but like the A-7 and A-6 in last years video, it doesn’t mean you will see the actual modules anytime in the next 3 years. Been waiting 5 years for the A-7 (since it was announced)
  8. I did miss that. Thank you
  9. Yeah. I did that. I just enjoy completing missions with a return to base and a landing using proper procedures. like I said, it’s not a bug. It’s just that I can foresee times when due to a mistake, jettisoning ordinance to avoid a missle, low fuel, aircraft damage or a missed trigger (for whatever reason), I am unable to do what the JTAC/controller is asking me to do l. so i thought an “I can’t comply wincester”, “I can’t comply fuel” or “unable. Next task” might be a way to “force” the scenario scripting to move forward. It’s certainly not unrealistic. But, it’s up to BD. Either way I’m still playing. really enjoying this.
  10. Ok. To clarify, I’m not suggesting that there is something wrong with the mission; that’s why I didn’t post in Bugs. I’m simply asking for an F-10 option declaring wincester or needing fuel as a way to “bypass” the scripts in cases like this (where I not only lack the weapons but am running out of fuel. i understand that with heavy scripting, it’s impossible to foresee every stupid thing the player does. But, I think it is perfectly forseeable that in a given scenario, a player may find himself unable to complete the assigned task due to not having the ordinance, being low on fuel, damaged aircraft, etc. I think it’s both reasonable and realistic to have a way of notifying be controller (the mission scripting in our case) that you aren’t able to complete the mission so it can move on to the next one, order you back home or order you to hit the tanker based on the F-10 message. On this occasion, I conducted 3 strafing runs taking out both vehicles snd heavily damaging the house….yet even after that, nothing happened so I flew back to base. It’s not the end of the world and I can replay it….jusy a recommendation for a way to deal with player mistakes or problems that interfer with the scripting
  11. This isn Really a bug so I posted here So, I mistakenly dropped by MK-20 rockeye on the convoy failing to realize that my wingman was supposed to drop HIS. So now I’m wincester. I get a call about new tasking, switch over and my guy informs the controller that my flight only has 20mm (pretty sure…although he may have also said mk-20)The controller then tasks me with taking out a house and vehicles by a lake. Problem is that my pilot tells my wingman that I will drop my MK-20 and then he should strafe. Well…I don’t HAVE a mk-20. So despite my best efforts of strafing myself, the mission never advanced. Everyone on the Kola peninsula just waiting for me to drop a rockeye I don’t have. Also, I was down to 2900lbs of fuel can we please get an F-10 option to declare “wincester” and advance the mission. Also, a “I’m bingo” or something that will trigger the boss to order me to go refuel?
  12. I had that same issue when the campaign first came out so shouldn’t be anything new. Mission 1 (or whatever the one is where you bomb the Syrian HQ in Damascus) my wingman can’t get out of his parking space without hitting the revetment wall and blowing up. I have NOT tried this hot fix yet but that did occur after the last Dec 24 patch I believe. ill give this hotfix a shot. BTW, I’m really hoping this mini campaign gets made into a full campaign. Between the mig-21, F-4 and Syria/Sinai maps, the game is begging for a full Yom Kippur campaign (id prefer Sinai theater but beggars and choosers and all that
  13. Didn’t know about the editor option...but yeah, the radio command is much easier. (Although I’m going to do the former for my liberation campaigns since it’s easier than a DCS campaign Thank you for bringing it up to the team. While I’m standing here hat-in-hand…is there a way we can get a radio command for a fuel status update from our wingman/flight? Doesn’t have to be audio…even a text response with their fuel lever would work. Then we know better when to order them to drop (plus it’s realistic…flight leads often ask for fuel status)
  14. There is nothing you can do about the lack of immersion resulting from the fact that it isn’t real. BUT…while I’m not a fan of it, you CAN turn on random failures which does just that. You can pick which ones can occur and the chance it will happen. You can have your engine or hydraulics go, your INS system, fuel, etc etc. I don’t want to spend my 1.5 hours on a mission that I can’t complete because by INS/GPS went out. But if you want to make the bit tests and stuff matter, that’s your ticket That said, I don’t bother with Bit tests and testing emergency lights and such. But I do get a lot of immersion and enjoyment from starting up the aircraft and all the systems. I had tried for 15 years to get into a flight sim and I never could. I was just a guy controlling a computer screen trying to shoot down computer planes. But then I tried DCS and I realized the immersion I was missing was the aircraft itself. Needing to flip the right switches and push the right buttons Yeah, anything hard is frustrating. But that’s what makes it so enjoyable. The first time you get the jet started, the first time you successful arm, use the TPOD and put an LGB on target; knowing that is how it is done in the real jet. Refueling as well. For me though, the big “burst” or immersion came when I was able to run VR at a level where the graphics were really good (my old system the VR resolution had to be lower. Even with my new system and the Oculus Quest 3, it takes some study and experimenting to get things where you want. For example: the biggest jump in visual improvement came from raising my encode bitrate. I’m messing with sliders and PIxel Density but THAT was the key.) VR is a science and art itself but once you get it set up and can get a smooth 36fps (at least) with good resolution, it’s eye watering. I can’t play in 2D anymore. It’s the sensation of being in the aircraft combined with actually operating the aircraft. You can’t get any more immersion than that.
  15. Well, Baltic Dragon and Reflected campaigns are the two most complex ones out there. I’m with you on the F-16 start up…but if you hit space bar after the first prompt, you can cold start it yourself. Didn’t matter for me b/c his missions are over 2 hours long and I only get about 1.5 hours. The F-16 campaigns are all pretty tough (meaning lots of realism and requirements that you know your stuff) If you are willing to put some work into the F/A-18, there are plenty of “mid level” campaigns for you to learn on. Persian Lion is good but I’d grab Sedlo’s “Bold Cheerah” off of the user files. It’s one of the best campaigns I’ve played and it’s free. Air to air refueling is optional (you really should learn to do it) and it uses enough of the Hornets capabilities to be fun without pretending like you’re actually a trained aviator. But I’ll be honest with you…to enjoy any campaign, you are going to have to learn the aircraft. The whole POINT of DCs and high fidelity aircraft is so you can experience the aircraft itself. If you just want to blow stuff up, play war thunder or try and FC3 modules. In DCS, the combat is just the background…it’s the canvas on which the art is placed. It’s what provides the context for you to be operating the aircraft; but it’s leaning how the aircraft operates and experiencing what it’s like to operate it in a combat environment that makes DCS stand out. Learn the jet. Learn how to operate the weapons systems of course…but learn how to enter waypoints, use the SA page, air to air refuel and all the rest. As for the terminology…most you can figure out but if not, just ask
  16. I suppose that’s an acceptable excuse. lol
  17. ED, is there any way you can add “drop external tanks” to the list of commands for our flight/wingman? There is a command for “jettison stores” but obviously that gets rid of ordinance as well. The issue isn’t a failure to drop in a dogfight, it’s the AIs reckless use of afterburner. Especially to “catch up” despite me flying at 300kts and about 3 miles ahead. Took off and flew about 100miles to target. Both wingman and I are carrying 2 AGM-65 on each outer hp plus 2 bags, listening pod and jammer. We get to the target and as we are attacking he tells me “bingo fuel” problem is that Bingo is 2000lbs. I had JUST emptied my tanks and had 6200lbs internal. I order him to jettison and hit the tanker; he dumped his tanks, headed to tanker and ejected in site of it. when my tanks are about 30%-40% full, I’d like to be able to order my flight to drop theirs knowing they are empty without losing bombs. That way they have FAR less drag assisting with the fuel management
  18. As for modules, I’d love some earlier WW2 aircraft like a P-40, Hurricane, BF-109E, etc. 1942 Africa kind of stuff. Also, despite the whining about $10 for a graphically updated F-5, I would pay twice that for a graphically updated Mig-21, UH-1, F-86, Mig-19, Mig-15 or Viggen. Each I would also like to see game improvements 1. Campaign: ‘nuff said. (I’ll pay for it as an expansion too) 2. PLEASE can we get an AI A-6 intruder like you said we were getting like 2-3 years ago? Maybe an AI A-7? We need more than F-18s and F-14s on these Carrier missions and I don’t understand why we still don’t have them. 3. blast/shrapnel effects on troops/soft targets from bombs. I’d love to actually be able to use air burst fuses over FARPS, infantry, etc. Also some improved eye candy with the explosions and damage effects on buildings would be welcome. Ground ordinance explosions are dated.
  19. Ahhhh. That’s why my CBUs fall short; unless I drop on a steeper decline and low level
  20. Been 2 weeks and I’m not sure ED puts out their big patch this Tuesday; only because it’s a big one with 2 campaigns so even if it’s scheduled for this week it will be delayed. BD, how much trouble is it for you to put out a fix? Or is that something that has to come through the ED patch system (so either way we wait for EDs update)
  21. Same…but I went ahead with the mission anyway. When I got the word to tell my wingman to attack, I did just that and hit Flight/engage/mission and rejoin (as usual). I then watched my wingman turn around in full burner and head back the way we came from until he was over the ocean. There, sadly, he ran out of fuel….you know…b/c he was in burner for like 4 minutes so im thinking there needs to be some polishing before the regular one comes. love the era, the choice of war and the F-4 tho
  22. I hadn’t flown the gazelle in about 3 months. Started it up today on a night mission and noticed that the infrared screen image for the M model looks really bad. Tried adjusting the brightness and contrast but it doesn’t look anywhere like it did before…. was there a change made to the IR systems (for the HOT-3) or something?
  23. Mine is going waaaay long at times. I think my issue may be that I’m too low/too shallow when I ask Jester to lock the area and when I hit the pickle; like it thinks I’m pointing at something further down range. Tried it at a 30degree dive and it was fine. Previously i had been about a 10
  24. My DT mode works a treat when I’m practicing. In “combat” though…it’s a train wreck. Which is a pretty good indication that I’m doing something dumb with the jet when digital bullets are flying.
  25. Ok…I’ll start with the “is there gas in it?” Question. Did you pull up your bombing table first and set the appropriate bomb type? Even for DT, the computer needs to know what it’s tossing
