  1. I wish I could learn how to 3D model for something like this. Just working on ground objects would be fun for me (I've got a few months off after finals). I looked at 3D Max though and it turns out I'm short the $6000 needed to get that program. Any advice? Are there freeware version out there of an equivalent?
  2. You guys are the Kings of "teasers." Can't wait! Great job on P-51. It's beautiful.
  3. Yes... Yesss. good good. Make it happen Jim. As others have already stated, we'll buy it. The Pony is awesome! Bring on the 109s and 190s.
  4. Just took a look at COD and its new patch after flying DCS' P-51 for an hour. COD looks aweful in comparison, not to mention that even after a long awaited patch that sim is far from finished. COD's FMs feel arcadish in comparison to DCS' P-51. Good job ED! Keep the WWII aircraft coming along with a European Theater and you'll corner the market. Just my two cents.
  5. For me, I have to have the inverted box checked, otherwise triming the wheel towards me (backwards) puts the nose down not up. Glad I was able to help, I trained in Mooneys awhile back and (believe it or not) they have similar elevator trim characteristics when compared to the 51. Mooneys have a similar laminar airflow wing :-) This is a great sim so far, awesome job ED. Bring on the 109s and 190s.
  6. Yeah, I wish I had more wheels on my setup. Right now I only have the one but using keystrokes mapped in DX on the flight stick for rudder and aileron trim is fine right now.
  7. Just thought I'd share. Elevator trim in this bird is touchy (everything I've read about the real bird seems to fit what ED is trying to model with their product) and just mapping the keystroke to your HOTAS might prove frustrating. I tried that and it was okay but no matter what I did I found I was chasing the VSI so I just assigned the elevator trim axis to my unused throttle axis on my CH Fighterstick. Here are the settings: DZ = 0 SAT X and Y both = 100 (this is to ensure full range of the trim dial) Curvature = +60 The large curve ensures that while the wheel is in its center area of motion, a small input up or down creates an equally small movement on the aircraft's elevator trim wheel. Leave Slider and User curve unchecked. Go ahead and check "invert" (this ensures that as you pull back on the wheel the nose goes up). The Mustang flies rock steady for me now at all altitudes (almost no inputs needed to say level). Enjoy!
  8. I'll buy most of those. I'm really not all that interested in FC3 unless they have fully clickable cockpits and more accurate flight models. I'll buy the P-51D but I really think they need to continue to throw a German WWII fighter our way after it. My picked an F-16 or F-18 because that is what the DCS world needs the most right now.
  9. I get why ED is putting out the Mustang b/c I follow the forums on it and FAQ: it makes perfect sense that ED doesn't want to waste the hard efforts of its employees (especially if they turned out well). At the same time, I agree with the line of thinking that Isoul has stated, or at least what I'd really like to see from ED is a WWII combat simulator like IL-2 AND a modern combat simulator (Like A-10C). And with any luck, ED may someday go that route. For now though, I'll just be happy to fly their Mustang when they let it out of the stable :D ED does great work and for me supporting them has been worth every penny.
  10. 332nd FG (Tuskegee Airman) A few 332nd Fighter Group (Tuskegee Airman) paint schemes. additionally, this quote and aircraft schemes are also from Osprey Publishing... "Archer used “INA THE MACON BELLE” to become the only officially-recognised black ace in US history, this honour only being bestowed on him in the early 1990s after an Air Force review of kill claims. In an effort to avoid the publicity associated with the first black ace, the USAAF had changed the classification of Archer’s first victim – a Bf 109, downed on 19 July 1944 – to a half-kill after it was discovered that his wingman, Freddie Hutchins, had also fired a burst at the Messerschmitt after the fighter’s left wing had disintegrated. The review five decades later restored the full kill, giving Archer five victories, and official ace status. Archer and wingman Wendell Pruitt proved to be the 332nd’s most lethal pair, with Pruitt knocking down three aircraft. The pair also indulged in post-mission victory rolls until they executed rolls in opposing directions after a mission in October 1944 which almost resulted in a mid-air collision! This would have proven an ironic twist on the team’s nickname of ‘the Gruesome Twosome’."
  11. Moonbeam McSWINE Moonbeam McSWINE From the European Theater, 352nd Fighter Group, 487th Fighter Squadron, flow by CPT William T Whisner. "This aircraft was named after a character in Al Capp’s comic strip Little Abner. ‘Moonbeam’ was a sexy young lady who lived with her pigs in the mythical town of ‘Dogpatch’. This was Whisner’s favourite P-51, and between 2 November 1944 and 1 January 1945 he enjoyed great success with it, scoring 11.5 of his 15.5 aerial kills." Quote and attachment from Osprey
  12. I actually didn't expect a conformation or denial on this one, but thanks. I prefer floating the topic as appose to groveling for details.
  13. Beautiful. There is a reason you guys win all those awards. Any chance you guys can model all of Europe from the 1940s too? JK
  14. I've never seen this device modeled before; I didn't even know it existed. Cool. Data on it is in the pic attached and taken from the P-51D Pilot Training Manual 51-127-5 printed in AUG 1945. I wonder if it'll be modeled?
  15. Nice! I haven't made skins for years but I always liked doing my own. I used to make them in Il-2 and I still have the generic metal template I made for that one (took forever to get it right). I'd like to get back into it.
  16. I just spent a few hours looking at P-51 paint schemes; I'm obviously way too excited for this bird to come out. Since we do not have the finished product yet, I thought it might be nice to post a few of my favorites and I hope everyone else will too. Also included is the cover I slapped together on PPT for the flight manual I just printed out. Anyone back me up on a sticky for this?
  17. I'm ready I'll take tooling around in a P-51D any day! Hopefully this will lead to its own WWII flight sim and replace the mess Cliffs of Dover has been so far.
  18. This, I'm sure has been said before. But what this sim could really use is some Hesco barriers and T-wall with the ability to be in the mission editor and draw a square or series of lines and then once in the mission those lines are displayed as a Hesco or T-wall barrier. This would make the building of objectives and bases much easier. Thx. http://www.hesco.com/apps.asp
  19. Congratulations ED. Your flight sims are my drug of choice. You know I'm buying it.
  20. Welcome to the party man. Get comfortable because this sim does take some time to get the hang of but its well worth it. To me it sounds like you need to increase your dive angle a bit there. I try to make mine at least -20 degrees when attacking a main battle tank. Attached is a photo that shows exactly what a proper HUD looks like in order to knock out a tank and another for a CCIP drop with Mk-82 slicks. Hope this helps.
  21. DCS A-10C is very much a study simulator. If the only time you have to fly is an hour on the weekend then you are going to struggle to keep up in actual missions but don't worry your time won't be wasted. This simulator is just like others in the sense that the longer you continue to fly it the better you'll get. A lot of getting better at the A-10 is becoming comfortable with its HOTAS system and learning how to manipulate the CDU and DSMS. The more you practice with the A-10's HOTAS the faster it becomes muscle memory. If you need a squadron to fly with checkout the 16th ACCW. We always fly on Friday nights (mostly training missions) and usually there is someone on our Team Speak on weekday nights. Good luck.
  22. That lasted longer than I thought it would.
  23. http://www.embraerdefensesystems.com/english/content/combat/tucano_human.asp check out that cockpit!!!
  24. http://www.builtforthemission.com/ and http://www.embraerdefensesystems.com/english/content/combat/tucano_origin.asp The U.S. Airforce is making negotiations to purchase 200 of them for supporting counter-insurgency ops.
  25. Nice. I like the idea of random failures but I think the vast majority of us really don't want them cropping up on night's when the whole squadron is trying to get in the air with each other. Thanks for giving us the option ED.
