Mi-24 Random Engine Fire - need help investigating

This is great info and most likely the cause of my issues. I will know what to do when that icing light comes on now. -
Mi-24 Random Engine Fire - need help investigating
Cr33p3r replied to Cr33p3r's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Ahh. good to keep in mind. I was pushing things due to impatience. I'll run some more tests. I was also heavy and that may have contributed to the stress. pretty cool this is modeled in DCS. -
Last night on MP server (Liberation), I'm in Syria and its cold (got some icing warnings) and I'm 280KPH at 400m height trucking on out to the front lines. I've gone about 48nm and then I start to get some icing warnings on the panel (red light). So, I make sure pitot heat is on. I keep going. I have the bird trimmed nicely so I'm basically hand's off and not gaining or losing altitude. No enemies around and nobody is shooting at me as Tacview shows afterwards. I get an engine fire and start to lose power and then it grows and I burn up. Has anyone else had just a random fire cause their demise like this? I had no other warnings. Any idea on what may have caused this? Here is a video but I didn't hit record until after the problems started. Any input appreciated. I may have missed some important step/switch to keep this from happening. https://youtu.be/_xmzXGvpz3c Thanks!

Mi-24 comparison vs other DCS helos - flying "feeling"
Cr33p3r replied to Cr33p3r's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I took advantage of the sale and got the Huey. Jumped in it cold turkey in MP server. Still some learning to do but I ended up spending most of my time in the battle back in the Mi24. The Mi8 is great except for its like swiss cheese when it comes to enemy ground fire. I'm loving helos more and more! -
Mi-24 comparison vs other DCS helos - flying "feeling"
Cr33p3r replied to Cr33p3r's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
This has happened to me and now I know why! Thanks for sharing. -
i dont see it show up either. It used to not show up in MP but now never shows up. I have key binds so assume they did the trick when i hit them.

Mi-24 comparison vs other DCS helos - flying "feeling"
Cr33p3r replied to Cr33p3r's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Thanks so much for the great responses. Exactly what I was looking for! I have a stigma of returning things from a childhood trauma (Thanks mom!). i may get one though and give it a shot. Really appreciate the thoughtful responses and time you both took to share thoughts. -
I finally had a chance to get some more DCS helos and fly them by comparison. Obviously, the weight makes a difference but here is what I'm seeing below. Not intending this to be a "this helo is better than this other one" but just see if you're all seeing this and how some ones I don't yet have bought are by comparison. Thanks for indulging me. Mi-24: This seems the "heaviest" and most stablest of the helos. I can get it going smoothly and pitch/roll trim to get some stable flight. I think I have the most time in this bird so its most familiar to me. Mi-8: 2nd helo I bought. I can get this moving smoothly but it feels a bit more powerful engines and blades. A bit different but I'm getting used to it and can get it into stable flight. AH-64: I have the least amount of time in this bird. It seems to be way overpowered and twitchy and more challenging for me to get into stable consistent flight. I can overspeed/underspeed the rotors way too easily (by comparison to the above). It just feels too twitchy but maybe its me compared to the Mi-24. So, here is where I appreciate the community's input. How does the UH1, Ka50 and Gazelle compare to what I've shared above? I probably will get one of these. I've watched numerous youtube submittals and probably just need to pull the trigger. Appreciate your constructive comments/recommendations. I posted here since I'm looking for regular Mi-24 pilot's opinions with Mi-24 as a base comparison. Appreciate this community!

Petrovitch Crosshair off center with Multimonitor setup
Cr33p3r replied to JIGGAwest's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Mine is usually centered but down and into the instruments. I use a head tracker (https://grassmonkeysimulations.com/) so I merely look up and it goes where I want it to so it doesn't bother me all that much. When I haven't used the head tracker, I number-pad-arrow it to where I want it to go. -
Petrovich and Low Light Visibility - Petro Is Not A Bat
Cr33p3r replied to ColonelColt's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Revisiting this. I find petro is better and more accurate when within range. However, his night vision is non existent. As pilot, i can apparently put on night vision but he apparently can't. If I'm in a dawn mission, I have to wait. Hopefully can be tweaked in the future. I realize this isn't the AH64 with heat vision but seems Petro should be able to see better. I will try the illumination rocket method mentioned above and see how it goes. -
Great info Mr. Blastman! Given enemy air assets around, i'm a bit fearful to fly up to 1000 ft ha ha. I usually stick NOE as much as possible but it makes sense that my range and accuracy with the ATGM's would be reduced. I do have to wait til 5 mi or less to fire. i usually get 2 off before having to turn and make another attack run so I don't get into their gun range.

What makes the Apache the most difficult helicopter module to fly?
Cr33p3r replied to Schmidtfire's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I have only the DCS Mi24 and Mi8 to compare to. The Mi24 "feels" heavier and therefore a bit more stable to me taking off, hovering, slow flight, trimming, etc.. Its slow to respond to inputs and I have to think ahead and expect the response to sort of drag behind my inputs. I'm usually pretty heavy in it with ATGM's and rocket. By comparison, I'm usually pretty light in the Mi8 so its "feels" a bit more twitchy. By further comparison the AH64 (which I don't yet have that many hours in yet) really feels overpowered and much more loose especially in the wind. Tried to take off last night in extreme wind Syria and it practically rolled over on me as I got off the ground. I think I need more practice. I don't think its "harder" but its definitely different. I also prob need to tweak my deadzone/curves in my stick to make it similar to the Mi24. Regardless, the DCS helos have really taken a hold of my interest after flight simming in fixed wing aircraft for 17 yrs. -
I pull up the F10, find my VFR ground features to follow or bearing and get there. Also, I use the grassmonkey simulations tracker and love it!

I'm enjoying the challenge and quirks. Its like trying to fly a rocket, not an aircraft. But, once you fly it enough and learn the little things, it becomes more intuitive. Keep that throttle up or you'll drop like a rock. A/G bombs work well and the nuke is a fun challenge too. The A2A weapons are very short range (like sidewinders). But straight level flight the thing can haul. I have yet to land without burning up my tires. Probably the most challenging aircraft I've simmed in so far in DCS. I enjoy the challenge. I'm a glutton for punishment so I have been crying through the Mi24 and Mi8 of late while the Mig21 gets added to the MP server map I play on.

Just FYI, i have a button programmed for auto-trim. Once I get level and moving, hit the button to turn it on. Then I use pitch and roll trim buttons to adjust (with throttle). If decreasing throttle causes yaw too much (as it should), I hit auto-trim to turn it off, adjust my roll as needed, and then turn it back on. Minor tweaks during a flight. Funny how the key to helo's is pitch/power/trim just like fixed wing aircraft.
-
I have seen poor accuracy with Petro but not as low as 50%. A lot depends on obstructions near the targets too like trees that can block missiles. I have missed wide but never high on wide open targets. Using Petro is never a sure thing.
-
once I get into stable flight forward, I hit the autotrim button. then I use the individual pitch and roll trim buttons to balance things along with throttle adjustments for stable flight.
-
I'm also finding that if the targets move into a forested area, the ATGM's will often hit the trees and miss the targets until you have a clean view of them. I had this happen a lot on Marianas with a convoy that drove down a dead-end road and dispersed into the forest. Loving the Mi24.

Looks like Petro fix just was included in the beta: DCS: Mi-24P by Eagle Dynamics Added. First wave of voice-overs for Petrovich AI. Same amount as in AH-64D, more coming with future updates. Added. New ATGM sight texturing and FOV changes, adjusting it closer to real specs. Added. New routine for Petrovich AI, when S-5 rockets used with bombs Petrovich will choose appropriate mode with bomb/pods switch (for this system to work bombs should be on racks 1 and 4) Added. Kord gun iron sights deployed Added. New ATGM and empty rack icon for weapon payload manager Fixed. Weapon Selector control mapping duplicates Fixed. R-60 missile panel hints and control buttons remain when R-60 equipment is disabled Fixed. Client camera not moving to Kord gun place if Kord is added after rearm Fixed. Petrovich AI "Designate target/open fire" button function bugged Fixed. Petrovich AI NATO AI target list color scheme works as Coalition AI color scheme

I have had issues like this. One thing I find is that if I re-arm, I cannot turn on the switches to activate weapons and fire control and so forth until AFTER rearming is complete. Otherwise I can't fire anything but the 30mm gun. This makes for a frustrating experience when you think everything is ready and you hit fire and nothing happens. Also when looking at your list above, once Petro finds a list of targets, you have to select one (short right) first, earlier in your list. Don't wait til later. Once selected, you can actually turn off the triangular sighting and he'll hold the target. Fly with the target in the reticle until you get tone. I used to use auto-fire (long up) but like to launch when I'm ready myself. Looking at your cockpit screenie, everything looks like its on as its supposed to be. Petro can be very quirky I'm finding.

How do you start the autostart process with this lua script?
