Consideration - Freetrack vs. FaceTrack NoIR and more
Gisen replied to Chlebakus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Try going into axis assign in dcs under headtracker axes and see if your movement is being picked up. I don't use opentrack myself as freetrack works fine for me but try reinstalling the headtracker folder -
Your question still makes no sense. The rift doesn't magically make the sound better or worse or more or less 3d. I'm sure you've asked the same question before and got the same answer.
-
Neither, use the money to buy an oculus rift when it comes out

Just saw this: diy smartphone vr hmd for ~£15 /$20 http://www.roadtovr.com/diy-guide-build-smartphone-vr-headset-hmd-head-mounted-display-oculus-rift-games/ I might give this a go especially since half the cost is making the headtracker which most of us already have

Is this how headtracking is meant to be?
Gisen replied to doveman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
100hz And usually hovers near 100fps in freetrack (wiimote has its own signal processor I think) -

Why not use a secondhand wiimote? They are really cheap now -
Game wont map my racing pedals
Gisen replied to crankshaft's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I believe you can use ppjoy to merge 2 axes into one although I don't know exactly how. Might be worth looking into it if you can't combine them in your software -
Game wont map my racing pedals
Gisen replied to crankshaft's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use racing pedals as well although I don't have the same as you. One common problemis that the game needs the pedals to both be on the same axis. On my pedals the option is "report combined pedals". Other than that just make sure they are responding properly in the game controller window in Windows and ensure you are clicking on the correct controller in the assignment screen in dcs -
Mikey, I think you are getting this slightly wrong: as I understand it there will be increased demand for graphics in that the rift will have to render once For each eye but you don't have to have a system capable of running games at 75 or 90fps. That is more like the refresh rate of the rift, like current monitors can be 120hz but you can still play games at 30fps

I feel I need stick curves because my stick constantly jiggles and isn't accurate. If I just increase the dead Zone I had thought that was just near the centre, am I wrong?
-
If your freetrack is working then I'd definitely wait for oculus, trackir isn't that much better then freetrack ( depending on exact setup they can be completely indistinguishable)

Can someone please clarify about wind adjustments: I have heard conflicting info about whether adjusting for wind in the cdu is need ed for accurate dumb bombing and I can't seem to test it myself. If it is needed, are there any resources that cover it? ta

I don't really see the problem some people are foreseeing with using keyboard and oculus rift- I play with the lights off quite often and also don't need to look at the keyboard for most key combos. I'm sure most people could at least press any of the keys around the edges of their keyboard and would learn where the rest are quickly enough. combined with clickable cockpits which are a lot easier to use with Good headtracking it's not a problem at all.

I totally agree, and that's exactly why trackir puts so much pressure on developers and makes spurious legal threats to competitors ... Because their product can't compete on a level playing field. That doesn't change that ED have caved to trackir before, which is why I think they will again without huge community pressure to support OR
-
I'll be very surprised if this is supported quickly by ED as no doubt trackir will be putting massive pressure on them not to, or trying to claim it infringes on their patents. Same as any other headtracking solution that threatens their bottom line.

Valve is working on getting more steam games to work on linux, might even include DCS titles. Without the huge overhead of windows, with decent drivers, they actually get better FPS on the same machine under linux in e.g. team fortress. Closed beta ongoing now, hopefully opening up soon! Now the only problem is the useless starforce BS.
-
Could someone just run though it again as the first tutorial, although excellent, is very confusing about the units (i.e. feet, metres, m/s, knots) to be used. Also can someone clarify what to do with the wind speed measurements given in briefing to put into the LASTE?
-
Yes it does. Exactly this happened to my parents when my father downloaded the massive demo of a racing game he wanted to try which took about 3 hours on their crappy connection. Norton sucks. It gives false positives all the time and doesnt detect real threats.
-
Solution: Don't use norton. It's horrendous.
-
That's really helpful. Any idea of a fixtime? workaround? Solution?

Whenever I try to attack targets which are sitting on top of a FARP, the maverick simply displays "no track launch" and refuses to fire. Even when it is tracking the target. This should not happen. There is a huge contrast visible on the screen. Attached is a track featuring H and D Mavericks. First I lock a SP arty not on a farp to demonstrate that I do know how to do it. Then I try to fire on targets on a farp, which doesnt work. Then I fire on targets just off the farp which does work. I then switch to the other mavericks and demonstrate that they do not fire either. Finally I use force correlate to fire in the general direction of the farp but obviously this is not ideal. Please fix this. mavsnottracking.trk

NATO had quite a few tanks as well old son. I guarantee it's easier to get replacement lasers than replacement tanks = they would use the lasers if it meant even SLIGHTLY more tank kills. I'm not fixating on cold war scenario either, not sure why you think that. Less runs attacking armour in war scenario = less aircraft shot down. Aircraft are even MORE expensive than tanks. If you are talking about cold war heating up scenario then they'd be trying to stop an armoured wave so the initial strike needs to be as devastating as possible. This thread is mainly about the su25t but either of them apply. War flying is more like emergency flying than routine training ops, and I stand by my assertion that if there were even a small advantage to using the laser more then that would be done.
