Okay, here's the track up to where the band is seen. I noticed that it was less as I moved my POV around and became prominate when fixed on the area. 3-30-24 Ocean Bands.trk

It's Operation Persian Freedom's "The Battle of Qeshm" mission going from WP 2 to WP3.
-
So this may be a mission map specific issue. I just started a new mission in the Operation Persian Freedom Campaign and there's no banding in the water at the coast line.
-
So I turned all of four ReShade presets off, and deleted fxo and metashader2 files. Restarted my computer too. In game I turned SSLR to off and SSAO to on. No change to the water banding.

This may be old information, but I ran across a YT on the DLSS 3.6 update this week. It's for MSFS players and points out that you need to also update your Nvidia Driver - an update was release this week right before 3.6. Not sure how much of what is said is applicable to DCS, but the update of the Nvidia drive makes sense.

Thanks for the tips. I will give them a try. I had tried looking for other posts, but I wasn't sure how to describe what to search for so I missed them. Is there a better name/description for what I'm seeing?

I'm relative still new to DCS and tweaking of various graphic settings. I've just started the A-10Cii Operation Persian Freedom Campaign and noticed the banding on the water near shore, I'm flying at 15K. My PC is an i5 12600K with a new Nvidia 4070-Super. Monitor is a Samsung G7 with a 165 Hz. With my settings I'm getting about an average 125 fbs. The only other thing I have is ReShade. So is this banding effect normal or are my settings causing it?

I figured as much, but still think this would be good - but understand why it can't be added.
-
After adding in names in the Comms sub menus for the ARC-210, it would be so nice to be able to see the specific name of a preset channel frequency on the ARC-210 display screen.

Australian defense economics professor Perun does some very interesting hour long lectures on military and international defense related subjects. He just did one on "The Race for Next Generation Air-to-Air Missiles: Range, Sensors & Future Air Dominance"

Iron Flag Mission 3 Radio Help - Solved
PacFlyer23 replied to PacFlyer23's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Thanks again. I've changed the title of this threat to "solved." The other thing that I did was go through my normal initial power startup with Battery, Battery Inverter, APU, and APU & AC Generators all on. Then turn on all three radios. -
Iron Flag Mission 3 Radio Help - Solved
PacFlyer23 replied to PacFlyer23's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I just completed Mission 3 and verified that the Kneeboard [bracket] numbers are the presets for the ARC-210. Interesting training too, I got so focused on figuring out how to enter new waypoints and create a flight plan in the air that I missed a scheduled waypoint and ended up almost a 100 miles past it - couldn't understand why my new flight plan waypoints weren't showing on the TAD and thought I'd done something wrong with the various OSBs until I finally expanded the TAD to over 80 miles to see I'd well overshot my planned course and new waypoint circuit... no thanks to instructor Biff -
Iron Flag Mission 3 Radio Help - Solved
PacFlyer23 replied to PacFlyer23's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Thank you. This is definitely helps me make sense of these radios and the setup for this campaign. -
I bought the Iron Flag campaign to use for training, but am stumbling at the beginning of the missions with the use of radios. It starts with "... switch your UHF Radio to MAIN or BOTH position on the default frequency." Which radio? What is the "default frequency"? Is it ATIS? Which radio and frequency is being used to talk to the instructor Biff? I thought the ARC-164 was for comms with the flight. If so, what's the frequency? The radio check with Biff was on 128.000 which can't be on the ARC-164. I just did Mission 3 and was so confused with the radios and instructions to switch to the ground or tower that I lost comms with Biff. The AI continuing the mission while I was still not moving and he taxied before me and took off then crashed. Looking at the Kneeboard for this mission, are the numbers in [bracket] the ARC-210 assigned presets? If so, where's Guard 1 go? With three different radios it would be so much clearer in the training if the instruction was something like "... switch your UHF ARC-210 Radio to MAIN or BOTH position on the default frequency of 270.100 ATIS." Any help would be appreciated as I appear to be stuck on the ground without the correct comms.

Hi Art-J. Thanks for the information. I'm not a PC type, but I have both the Bin and Bin-MT folders in the DCS World folder. The "reshade-shaders" folder is in the Bin folder. What do I need to do? Should I move or copy it to the other one? Update: So I installed Reshade again in the Bin-MT folder. Everything is reset, but I guess I can just play around with it in game and see if I can recreate my settings. I did start the DCS in the Bin folder and Reshade is there and so are my settings (now copied down on paper). So what is the difference between the two DCS versions? I read the explanation on the MT page, but that was before the 2.9 update.
-
I updated to the stable version of 2.9 yesterday, and Reshade is no longer working. I've tried reinstalling it and the Reshade app says this was done, but when in DCS it is not working. I get a message that the files have been deleted.

I know that there's a closed thread that said the issue with GBU-54 name not showing up in DSMS, but I have that problem. I'm on stable version 42718. I'm also unable to take a screen shot as I get "Unable to save screenshot because of an internal error" message. I do have ReShade loaded and on, as well as MSI Afterburner (but it is not on). I can type in a name for the GBU-54 into the profile and save it, but this is sort of a pain especially if I start in the air full weapon loaded. edit: I just took a couple picts with my phone, not the best quality but they show the issue.

Thanks for that catch on the lights. I've created a checklist using a numbered switch map that was in the DCS downloads. Putting it together - especially rewatching Ralfidude's YT video multiple times in order to jot down the switch and flow - really helped me learn where things are located. Wow, as a non-pilot newbie to both DSC and flight sims this is great revival discussion. I've spent countless hours looking at YT videos of cold startups and checklists. The information in this threat is really helpful. I built my own startup checklist based on YT Ralfidude's video, He recommended having a flow to the checklist actions and grouping things. I came up with the following that's been working for me... T-38 Talon Trainer and Basic Flight School Missions
PacFlyer23 replied to PacFlyer23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yes I realize this and that's what I've done. It I hadn't found CFrag's excellent flight school for the A-10A I probably would have given up as I was growing tied of crashing in the Su-25T in FC3 and being yelled at in Russian not understanding what was going on. I was really making a suggestion aimed at how to improve the entry into DCS for true flightless newbies like me. I do fly drones and have a copy of the US FAA's 1000 plus page "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge" to look up certain concepts in detail and in english. Also watching hours of YouTube videos by some awesome DCS pilots helped too in understanding the basics of flying in DCS. For those that are highly skilled in flying in DCS - I am in awe of you btw - the entry into DCS probably doesn't seem as super intimidating and confusing as it does to a true beginner with zero background in general aviation concepts let alone those of high performance military aircraft. Don't get me wrong, I am now really enjoying DCS. I just thought from my experiences of the last five months there might be a better way to get the novice into it and enjoying it by having a true basic flight school module and non-combat trainer aircraft as an entryway option for those starting at square one of learning to fly. -
As a newbie that's spent months learning about flying using FC3 and the Su-25T then the A-10A, a very simple trainer and companion flight instructor would have been great. A T-38 (non combat version of the F-5) that had an AI instructor in the backseat to coach and instruct could be a way to grow the DCS community by getting true newbies to flight through the early stages of learning the game. There wouldn't need to be weapons training but just basic fight, navigation and aircraft handling training missions in english and other languages.

no bug A-10A alt hold mode not engaging
PacFlyer23 replied to Coastiejeff's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Yes CFrag made some excellent A-10A training missions. I found them a few weeks ago and they're the reason I moved from the Su-25T as my basic training aircraft to the A-10A. Thanks. -
no bug A-10A alt hold mode not engaging
PacFlyer23 replied to Coastiejeff's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Yes that was it... EAC (Enhanced Attitude Control) must be armed - in the ARM position on my Warthog Throttle switch 24. The Autopilot settings now work. The Warthog Throttle faceplate shows an Autopilot bracket above switch 26 (AP Engage/disengage) and switch 27/28 (AP Path, Alt/HDG, Alt), nothing indicating switch 24 is needed too. The first time I've seen this explained. I had thought EAC was somehow related to ECM (Electronic Counter Measures). Thanks. -
Being new here and to DCS, maybe this video of F-15s pilots scrambling has been show before, but I still think it's pretty cool...
