  1. Thanks for that catch on the lights. I've created a checklist using a numbered switch map that was in the DCS downloads. Putting it together - especially rewatching Ralfidude's YT video multiple times in order to jot down the switch and flow - really helped me learn where things are located.   2. Wow, as a non-pilot newbie to both DSC and flight sims this is great revival discussion. I've spent countless hours looking at YT videos of cold startups and checklists. The information in this threat is really helpful. I built my own startup checklist based on YT Ralfidude's video, He recommended having a flow to the checklist actions and grouping things. I came up with the following that's been working for me...   3. Yes I realize this and that's what I've done. It I hadn't found CFrag's excellent flight school for the A-10A I probably would have given up as I was growing tied of crashing in the Su-25T in FC3 and being yelled at in Russian not understanding what was going on. I was really making a suggestion aimed at how to improve the entry into DCS for true flightless newbies like me. I do fly drones and have a copy of the US FAA's 1000 plus page "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge" to look up certain concepts in detail and in english. Also watching hours of YouTube videos by some awesome DCS pilots helped too in understanding the basics of flying in DCS. For those that are highly skilled in flying in DCS - I am in awe of you btw - the entry into DCS probably doesn't seem as super intimidating and confusing as it does to a true beginner with zero background in general aviation concepts let alone those of high performance military aircraft. Don't get me wrong, I am now really enjoying DCS. I just thought from my experiences of the last five months there might be a better way to get the novice into it and enjoying it by having a true basic flight school module and non-combat trainer aircraft as an entryway option for those starting at square one of learning to fly.
  4. As a newbie that's spent months learning about flying using FC3 and the Su-25T then the A-10A, a very simple trainer and companion flight instructor would have been great. A T-38 (non combat version of the F-5) that had an AI instructor in the backseat to coach and instruct could be a way to grow the DCS community by getting true newbies to flight through the early stages of learning the game. There wouldn't need to be weapons training but just basic fight, navigation and aircraft handling training missions in english and other languages.
  5. Yes CFrag made some excellent A-10A training missions. I found them a few weeks ago and they're the reason I moved from the Su-25T as my basic training aircraft to the A-10A. Thanks.
  6. Yes that was it... EAC (Enhanced Attitude Control) must be armed - in the ARM position on my Warthog Throttle switch 24. The Autopilot settings now work. The Warthog Throttle faceplate shows an Autopilot bracket above switch 26 (AP Engage/disengage) and switch 27/28 (AP Path, Alt/HDG, Alt), nothing indicating switch 24 is needed too. The first time I've seen this explained. I had thought EAC was somehow related to ECM (Electronic Counter Measures). Thanks.

  8. Hello. I'm new to DCS and started flying the A-10A moving from learning to fly using the basic Su-25T. I have a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and T.Flight Rudder Pedals. I am not able to get the A-10A Autopilot to work. The AP is bound to both the keyboard default keys - "A" and "1-9 + LAlt" - and the Warthog Throttle switches 26, 27, 28, and M+28 for modes AP Engage/Disengage, AP Path Hold, AP Alt/Heading Hold, and AP Alt/Bank Hold respectively. I know that you're supposed to select the AP mode first and then the Engage switch. I've tried this both from the Keyboard and the Throttle, with no luck.
  9. Hello ED. I'm new to DCS and enjoying learning to fly in it. I have noticed that it's pretty unrepresentative of today's military combat pilots. Especially in western NATO counties like the USAF and USN, even USMC. Specifically; female pilots and other ethnicities such as black and latino american pilots. Modern air force combat pilot cadres are no longer 100% white male. My niece's high school female african-american best friend just graduated from the US Naval Academy, was accepted into USN flight school, and is currently in basic air flight training at US Naval Air Station Pensacola. She wants to be a F/A-18 fighter pilot.
