    New to DCS

Welcome to DCS, sir Hassle, and enjoy!
  2. It's awesome to get a glimpse of military aircraft from home. I'm not near any air bases, unfortunately, but a few years back some F-15s did an extremely low flyby over our village. It was insane to see and feel them rumble by.
  3. Masters of the Air was good overall as an aerial warfare drama, but it lacked that essential character-driven element that made Band of Brothers so compelling.
  4. I completely agree that cultural immersion is so valuable for understanding different perspectives. When I was researching flight sims in Korea, I came across a forum specifically for Korean players. It might be worth checking out - maybe we could learn from their experiences. Language barriers make international discussion challenging, but shared interests can still bring people together.
  5. Great thoughts on the cultural aspects of simming. I'd be curious to hear from Korean players as well. It's always interesting seeing different perspectives, especially for things like aircraft they'd be more familiar with. While doing some searching online about Korean culture as we discussed, I came across this interesting tourism guide https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-south-korea-statistics-2023-all-you-need-to-know-5254 It has lots of helpful stats on visitor trends that give good context.
  6. Interesting questions about the origins of those forums tags and logos! I'm curious about that stuff too. I don't actually know the specific answers, but I'd guess the avatars and logos were just chosen by the people running those forums and companies because they thought they looked cool. Probably not too deep of a meaning behind it.
  7. Haha yeah, I've noticed that too! The extra weight of PTSD is no joke. In all seriousness though, it's probably simulating things like extra safety gear, insulation, radios etc that would be required for civilian flights. Or maybe the huey just feels guilty flying without its civilian passengers!
  8. Hey all, I was just watching a YouTube video about the U.S. and South Korean air forces cooperating on training missions using things like the F-16 and F-15K. Got me wondering, are there any Korean DCS players in the community? What got you into simming? As someone in South Korea, do you find DCS helps you learn more about your own air force or that of your allies? Also, have you noticed any differences in how planes like the F-15K or other Korean aircraft are modeled compared to IRL? Interested if cultural aspects make their way into the sims at all. And lastly, for any non-Koreans - have you tried playing on Korean language settings just for kicks? Wonder how accurate the translations are. Give a shout if you're around and interested in sharing your perspective!
  9. Hey Hunter, There's nothing wrong with knowing what you enjoy. Props to you for trying out different planes but sticking with what really clicks for you - the WW2 birds. They do seem like a blast. Enjoy cruising in your P51 and Spitfire till the Pacific drops!
  10. yeah watching that video is really cool! Seeing how the Chinook can just gently land on the water like that was pretty neat.
  11. Turret overshooting does sound pretty annoying, especially with a joystick. Hopefully the devs can tweak the controls to smooth it out. In the meantime, maybe try smaller turret movements with the mouse instead of big sweeps.
  12. I'd suggest checking out the missions from Stolen Content like @Nighthawk1 mentioned. Those tend to be more realistic without tons of unnecessary SAMs. RotorOps is also good if you want to customize things yourself. No need for crazy hard suicide missions - the important thing is having fun!
