Lack of target distance information is odd, it should be first info that pilot get after target detection, long before identification

Currently we dont have in DB any naval assets that can do underway replenishment. I think adding at least 1 of such ship for US and Soviet Union/Russia or maybe China would be welcome addition to DCS, both for better immersion, but also option for ships to use supply ships to reload weapons, could come usefull in future dynamic campaign, another logistical asset to attack. Also, those type of ships usually have helipad, so having another base for a lot of DCS utility and transport helicopters make a lot of sense.

Precision Strike mod needed for legacy Russian planes
Ramius007 replied to apolloace's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would preffet if ED rather include "factory" variants of our F-teens, like F-16C blk50 without CCIP upgrade and original 90's Hornet with Link4, as bonus giving us ability to exchange datalink info with Tomcats. Removable via editor JHMCS and GPS is a must in both ofc... -
Mig 29 Air to Ground Ability and Weapons?
Ramius007 replied to Mad Dog 762's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
Actully FF version wil make a2g in a Fulcrum quite interesting, especially dealing with 3 only waypoints and navigation system as a whole, but is definitely capable of penetrating air defence to some degree with flares and just sheer speed. I wonder if we get mining ability in DCS at some point, becouse it was what KMGU was build for, and would add some mission variety to Mig -
Yes, a lot of CW AI assets are in bad shape, hopefully ED extand their cooperation with modders and we get something better, also older AI assets, like early Viper cant use older weapons, even if they were added to DB, like HB made older TV Mavericks or Shrikes
-
F-16MLU is another 90's upgrade, but it's going of topic. There is some naive belief that Viper and Hornet we have are like from 80's, if we just strip them of their modern weapons. This fits ED narrative, but is very far from truth, and very easy to check on your own, how? Just make a mission with rather realistic setting, like removal of own plane position on map and external views and setting mission in adverse weather or night and target in urbanized area. Now make strike on this target in a Viper or Hornet without any tpod, just using iron bombs or rockets or older TV weapon like Velleye on Hornet, and then doing exactly same mission in REAL CW jet in CW std, like M2k, F-4E, f-14, Viggen, or Mirage f1, all modules that have INS drift moddeled, that dont have modern tpods or advanced post 86 IR guided Mavericks. This is just one example, another would be group fight with and without link16...

Are you implieng that Hornet or Viper modules are CW or 90's std? Did I missed technological revolution and JHMCS and L16 were in 90's, same with GPS navigation on those planes? Would be great if we get ability to strip those modules of ALL 2000's tech, but we cant, and I tell You more, we dont even have F-16A as AI asset

I dont know if NS430 will be supported, but even if, it's not allowed on MP servers for performance reasons. I also have suspicion, that NS430 still existing may deter ED from giving us modernized with GPS Fulcrum. As for upgrades, I would pick one of NATO operators, they were based on Israeli packege, so it would be something like NS430, but integral part of the module, added with editor or just another platform to choose from.
-
While I understand that modern Fulcrum is not possible, and would be require new external and cockpit model, I still dont get why modernized variant of some NATO country cant be done, and I assure everyone that it's possible, you can get material about those upgrades directly from companies that make those modernizations, plenty of public availble info is possible. I m totally ok, that we get 9.12, but very far from ok, that we get ONLY 9.12, when 3rd party module makers, already offer us multiple variants of same jet, OTOH, ED cant even allow us to remove DL and helmet permanently from Viper and Hornet, to make them compliant for MP or SP content that include some sort of older setups with historical filter. Even little things like GPS on MFD would help a ton in modern scenarios, situational awerness was Fulcrum achilles heal, and was preety much always improved among practically all operators
-
Desert Storm Eagles were past MSIP I, it's preety much what current FC F-15 is, MSIP II was adding DL, helmet, 9x, not sure when GPS was added. Even just a DL is quite a gamechanger for 80's jet and ability that historically wasnt avaible, as you know already
-
Any plans to add pre MSIP II version, or allow editor options to remove 2010 tech, so it will actully fit scenarios with 80's FF Fulcrum provided earlier?

Military Assets for DCS by Currenthill
Ramius007 replied to currenthill's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Great mods, nice to hear that large chunk will be added to DCS core, but I found small issue within Ukraine asset pack, Mig-29SM2 is very optimistic, from availbe data 29's should only carry Harms and some western GPS bombs on 2 inboard stations, ototh we have amraams and er/et on all pylons. Also, only was was modernized to this std... -
Mi-24 Ai Petrovich - partially damaged targets
Ramius007 replied to Robo76's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Hind is a great module, but both Petro and damage model (too tanky) need work -
ED is very hasitant, until recently even with adding mods made by community, it's more about DCS being SP DLC oriented content, and new assets mess with this scheme, with every new asset or core mechanic change they undermine hundreads of missions they have to fix afterwards. Another reason may be not passing minimum age requirements with adding realistic effects of dying civilians, I disagree money is biggest issue, if anything, it may be lack of workforce to do it, but not really money directly, if it was simply "hire more people and do it" it would be done already IMO. Also I m preety sure we get civilian population at some point, it's just not worth it at current stage, our PC's are not strong enaugh to be worth it.

I agree that performance cost is high, DCS already have traffic option, yet, even in performance friendly Caucasus map I dont use it in "heavy" missions, and it's never used on MP servers, it's just better to have more diverse combat enviroment than civilians, but IMO civilians, even with huge performance cost should be avaible as option, just becouse we already have non combat planes in DCS and more are coming, it may be just in ED interest to include civilians, just for non combat DCS part, this may bring people from other sims to DCS, "working" civilians on good looking maps would be just super cool and some people would try DCS, just to see this
