Used GPU Tweak to change settings on my gpu and flew low over Paris. I got the GPU to 95%, so it's not super clear, but maybe I'm gpu bound not cpu. Darn...5090s are stupid money.

Thank you for taking time to reply guys. I have process lasso and park control. I'll review how I've got that set up again today, but if I recall correctly, I unparked the p-cores and assigned affinity to DCS. I've also tried talking very sternly to the pc.

My system is an i9-13900k on a MSI Mag Tomahawk Max wifi, Asus Tuf RTX 4090, 64gb DDR 5, 2TB Samsung SSD. I'm using a Pimax 8kx until my Crsytal Super arrives. I'm wondering why I'm getting stuttering when the Nvidia overlay shows my GPU and CPU are hardly breaking a sweat. I also installed Capframex, MSI Afterburner, and Riva Tuner, but I can only test with those tools using my monitor which is pretty much a waste of time. (Anyone know how to get the overlay to display while using VR headset? The Nvidia overlay displays on my monitor while I'm using the headset, but I can't get the Afterburner overlay to display when using VR). Nvidia reports my GPU usage is often in the 40s to 50s and the CPU is in the teens to mid-20s. Unfortunately, the Nvidia overlay is pretty limited and doesn't show all cpu cores, frametime, and so on. I'm wondering if I need to spend another $750 for a 9850x3d and mobo to make this problem go away. Oh, I tried overclocking the cpu using the Gameboost option in the mobo bios - stock clock is 3.0 and now it's running at 5.6Ghz...but that didn't make the GPU work any harder. I would prefer to keep the $750, but I'm at a complete loss of what I need to do to coax this system to work harder. Any suggestions are welome and appreciated!

Virpil tech support is really, really good. It's Sunday here and Gleb helped me troubleshoot the issue with my throttle. Based only on my description of the issue and some photos, he told me what he thought the issue was, and told me how to verify it using the debugging tool in the configurator. Looks like I'll be replacing the cable that connects the right-hand throttle to the main board. He also provided a video on how to replace the cable. Somehow, that cable causes all buttons to stop functioning and the LED lights to remain on all the time. I truly could not expect a better or more timely response. The problem started last night, and I submitted the ticket at about 10:00 p.m. I received a reply at 4:51 this morning, and started working on the problem at about 9:00 a.m. In less than 2 hours, Gleb diagnosed the issue and explained how I could verify it. This is an example of truly world-class support that I wish others would emulate.

Are You Planning on Buying Pimax Crystal Super or Crystal Light?
Gyster replied to jww123's topic in Virtual Reality
I've had the 8kx for a few years now and have only had a couple issues that were solved with firmware changes. Having said that, I fly with guys using other headsets that routinely call out contacts long before I can see anything. Even though I am concernced about the degree of performance my pc can deliver (i9-13900k/rtx4900), I'm willing to take the chance that the added ppd along with eye tracking will provide a better overall experience. So, I pre-ordered and am anxiously waiting for late January. My experience with Pimax' customer support was frustrating at times, but they always managed to get me the right firmware - definitely, not great support. As far as features, the Super should be an ideal hmd for me - high resolution, wide FOV, eye tracking, no battery, and no hand tracking. Pretty much everything I want, and nothing I don't want or plan to use in the future. I'll put up a review on youtube after I've had some time to try it. -
Since the last update, FPS starts as it used to, at 75 fps. I have refresh rate set to 75hz. After an hour or two playing on multiplayer server, frame rates begin to drop and eventually get down to mid-40s. Leaving the server and coming back in restores fps to 75 for a period of time and the process repeats. The guys I fly with are experiencing the same behavior. My system - i913900 on a Z790 MSI Tomahawk Max wifi, Asus RTX 4090 OC, 64GB DDR5 6400, Samsung 2TB ssd, Pimax 8kx. I haven't been able to remedy this - it is very consistent and persistent. After a couple of hours, the frame rate starts to drop and stuttering gets progressively worse over time.

I want to provide an update on this and provide a shout out to Virpil Controls for their really excellent customer support. They sent me clear instructions with a couple photos that made replacing the board super easy. I received a mainboard from them this morning (a day earlier than expected). The replacement was a breeze and within about 15 minutes had the new board installed and the throttle connected to my PC. I started it, updated the firmware and set up my flap buttons. I've restarted twice since then and they nailed the problem - no link error! I've had this throttle for well over two years and the level of support I received was better than other products I've purchased that were still within warranty. You really can't go wrong with them if you're in the market for a controller.

To update this, I downgraded firmware per Virpil's request, and this worked for one reboot, but on second, the same problem returned. They are thinking mainboard problem and are offering to send me a replacment or have me send the unit in for repair. I haven't found any "how to" videos on this, but I asked if they have instructions or can provide guidance on the process. When I opened it, I wasn't looking at the mainboard, so I don't know if it's easily accessible to replace.

A couple weeks ago my throttle began to malfunction. When I get into a plane (hot) the plane rpm goes up and down with no input to the physical throttle. After a couple of instances of this, I tried unplugging the usb cable at the throttle end, and that corrects the problem. When I look in the Virpil software, one or more axis show a link error fault. Sometimes it's one throttle and flaps, or both throttles. I've contacted support and they had me open it and check for any loose connections, but everything looks good inside. This has become very consistent - 1st time I start the PC, the problem is present until I unplug/replug. Then, it's good until I shut down the PC. When I start it again, the problem returns. Any ideas on what may be causing this?

A replay function that doesn't crash to desktop or produce other errors and has FF, RW, Stop/Start and smooth camera controls (pan, tilt, rotate, lock on target, etc.)
-
I should add that I view the replays on a monitor, not the VR headset.
-
This has been happening very frequently lately. The main problem is that when I try to load a replay, DCS crashes to desktop. Some replays work, but most do not. This happened most recently today with the latest track file I have. Another intermittent issue I have is that when I record a track file, there is no sound in my recording. Lately, I cannot get the replays to play at all though. Here's my log file. Any suggestions are welcome. dcs.log

Thank you silver devil...I will try that this weekend.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'm having an issue with replays. My system: i9-13900, 64GB ram, rtx4090, 2tb samsung ssd, pimax 8kx. When I view replays (on my monitor), the view often zooms in. The point of view continues to move, replicating my head movements during play, but the view is zoomed in. I can zoom out using the / key, but then the point of view is stationary unless I use the number keys to pan, tilt, and rotate. The view is no longer controlled by whatever I was looking at when I played the mission. Is there something I'm doing while playing that's causing this? Sometimes it doesn't happen until an hour or more into the replay and at other times soon after first wheels up. I would like to make some videos, but I would like to show the pilot perspective. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
-
Same problem, but I didn't respawn. Flew one sortie then landed, rearmed and refueled. Engine wouldn't start so I left the server to watch the replay. This began yesterday and I've made no changes. I was on Wolpack server. I notice in the log, it says something about OpenXR failed. I'll check those settings. dcs.log-20240304-024849.zip

I fly in VR and playback in 2D by not starting Pimax software and then opening DCS. The initial view is a recording of whatever I was looking at when creating the track file. If I change views, is there a way to get back to this initial view from the pilot's perspective. Hitting F1 goes back to cockpit view but is locked on whatever I was looking at when I first change to a different view during playback. I'm also having difficulty getting the sound to play. I'm using Nvidia shadowplay, and sometimes I can get the audio to play, but when I import to powerdirector, there's no sound in the sound track.

Some pilots in both world wars racked up impressive kill numbers by only engaging "easy" targets (low energy, no help, etc.). Targets of opportunity you might say.

Thank you SilentOtto, I know almost nothing about kneeboards and never heard of Open Kneeboard before you mentioned it. But, I managed to get that done and now can move on to learning how to set up and use the radios. Thanks!
-
Hey Miles, yes, that looks like it. I've yet to get into a server and figure out how to use it though. I have only the 109 and have added a radio, but don't know how to tune it or what frequency range it should have.
-
Wrong overlay. I'm talking about the one that lists the radios you have set up, frequencies, and who's talking. It shows up on my desktop monitor instead of the VR headset.
-
Nice! I'll give it a go this morning. Thanks!
-
I did, but someone told me about that and turned it off, but still the appGPU hovers around 0.0 to 0.1 ms. Not sure why as there's no way that's accurate.

I'm running an i9-13900k @5.6, 64GB DDR5 @6000, Asus TUF OC 4090 (despite the ridiculous price tag), Samsung Pro 990 2 TB SSD, and with a Pimax 8kx I get about 75 fps as long as I stay above 2km. For some reason, flying low with the sun at my back, especially over cityscapes, fps drops to 40s. I have the XRToolkit overlay on but it rarely shows any value above 0.0 for GPU and CPU is usually less than 6ms. Not sure what to do, but I'll keep tweaking settings.

I'm running an i9-13900k @5.6 with 64 GB DDR5 @ 6000, Asus TUF OC 4090, Samsung Pro 990 SSD and struggle to get 75 fps with an 8KX. If I fly with the sun at my back and tree-top level - especially over towns the rate drops to the 40s. I'm still trying to find settings that will improve this, but so far, I'm a bit disapponted with the lackluster perfomance considering the hardware is about as good as it gets...and don't get me started on what the 4090s are selling for these days.
