Whoa The coolest thread on here :-)

Does anyone know what causes that characteristic 'chirping' sound you can hear externally with the rotors turning? It's very noticeable on all footage I've seen and is pleasingly present in this sim

A reminder of the challenges
Chief Instructor replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Good lord, He's flying it like he's just been told he has days to live! It shows what these things can do in the 'right' hands I guess. Good find. -
As a fixed wing pilot, the challenges of RSV and transitional flight have never concerned me at work. However, since flying the Mi-8 in DCS World, I've come to have great respect for the additional challenges of flying these machines. If you haven't already seen it, the link below demonstrates rather graphically the perils of critical transitional phases of flight. Clearly, I do not wish to speculate on the precise cause of the accident, however, there are a number of factors which are clearly visible on the footage. Though RSV may not have been the initial factor, a number of very experienced rotary SAR colleagues have expressed an opinion that it may have been a contributory factor. I should warn you that it contains quite graphic images of a recent accident, so don't watch it if you may be upset by it. I have posted this for informational purposes because we are all interested in aviation. I gather the investigation is still on going, so please be respectful if you comment. Condolences to those affected by this accident.

Really?! Forgive me then, I hadn't managed it. I'll try again

*** Moderator - Please delete this - I am dumb! *** Hi, It would be nice if the gang bars used to switch the banks of grouped circuit breakers were mouse clickable, rather than just having a key combination. As they are 'hand' operated, it would be slightly more realistic. Cheers, CI

Thanks for your reply Art-J I think you're completely right. I think I may have been looking at a UM variant. I didn't even know such a thing existed as the world of soviet hardware is quite new to me! :-) Cheers, L

Wheels stuck to the floor?
Chief Instructor replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yeah sorry - perhaps my response was a bit harsh! I just want this sim to be as good as it can be - so I don't think it's fair to call me anal just for asking a question :-) -
Wheels stuck to the floor?
Chief Instructor replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks Fred, Everything you've said is technically correct but it's not sufficient to cause the nose oleo to compress on breakaway - at least not to the degree that is modelled in DCS. The thrust vector arm and coupling will cause a theoretical pitching down moment before the wheel starts to roll, but unless the nose wheel tyre is on something very soft, the oleo compression resistance will resist it for the most part - particularly on a hard ramp surface such as in DCS. Watch this video clip and you'll see a real A10 start its taxy roll. There is no real perceptible compression of the nose leg prior to the aircraft moving. I just think it's over done in DCS! Cheers -
I've seen a number of pictures that show the nose cone almost fully retracted - far more so than happens on the DCS MiG21. Does anyone know under what circumstances this may happen on the real aircraft, or, whether the DCS MiG doesn't show it when it should? Cheers, L

Wheels stuck to the floor?

Perhaps you're just an anus. -
P.S. I'm enjoying your MiG21 tutorials - please keep them coming as the module progresses. I just hope they start releasing some fixes soon :-)

Thanks xxxJohnxxx I thought of that - I just don't want to wait all night for the download to complete on my slowish broadband! Also, I don't want to add anything else to my existing Steam directory because it has a habit of getting messy! No worries, I'll just wait for another sale - or stump up the full price! Right now I'm getting to grips with the MiG21 which is keeping me fairly busy :-)

I just tried to buy the F86 from steam for use in a non Steam installation and it won't let me purchase. It says that I must first have DCS World! I have, I just didn't get it from Steam! Is there any way around this?

Wheels stuck to the floor?
Chief Instructor replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I expect it's got more to do with the quirky ground/wheel interaction modelling. The wheels would offer a small amount of rolling resistance but not enough to cause such a compression followed by such a sharp release. I've just watched a couple of clips on YouTube and the A10 doesn't behave like this without brakes being applied. Never mind, it's not the end of the world though :-) -
TFC/DCS OCT 28th Newsletter

1.2.11 update Hi, Will the 1.2.11 update as referred to in the October news letter incorporate any bug fixes for the MiG21? Thanks, Luke -
Hi All, I've been curious about this for some time... The A10 has no parking brake but why does the nose oleo compress and then rebound when you apply power to move off? It behaves as if a brake is applied then released, or it's jumping a choc. Can't find anything after a search, so sorry if this has been covered. Best wishes, Luke

Hi, I guess this may have been mentioned before somewhere, so please forgive me if it has! The engine start up sounds are so quiet and lacking the realistic whine of a turbine start... This video demonstrates what it should sound like very well indeed - Jump to 2:00 in for the start of the spool up. The real thing is deafening and the current audio really lacks a sense of immersion. I know we're in beta still so it's not meant as a criticism - just a comment in hope that it will be improved  Best wishes, Luke

Got it now. Thanks very much Nick :-)

Hi. I emailed you yesterday and a contact via the support form, but still no reply. ( Luke )

Hello, I've noticed that the rudder moves in response to pedal movements on the ground with no hydraulic power applied. Is there a manual cable reversion or is this an oversight? Also, I can't find anything much on the forum about cockpit lighting but am I correct in thinking that the red flood lights and white lights are not working? Thanks!

How do I use BS2 in DCS World

How do I use BS2 in DCS World
Chief Instructor replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks BIGNEWY, I have DCS world and A10C modules installed and they all work great. Do you mean install the BS1 stand alone version again? Doesn't that mean I'll have a large and redundant 'stand alone' version of it on my PC taking up disk space? I can't see BS1 as being available as a download module... Thanks! Luke -
Hello, I've been away for a while and things have changed! I have got the original stand alone BS, which I later upgraded to BS2. How do I run BS2 in DCS World? I tried downloading BS2 from the modules section but it won't accept my serial... How should I do it correctly? Best wishes, Luke
