  1. Great stuff, thanks for the information. Now, I just have to find one at a decent price in the UK!
  2. Hi! I've been away from the VR market for a while. I currently have an Oculus Rift S but it's old tech now and I would like to upgrade to something a little more capable. Having trawled through various posts, it seems that the G2 would be a good upgrade. I currently only use the non-steam beta version of DCS and I'm a little confused as to whether or not the G2 requires Steam, as SteamVR always seems to be mentioned in the same sentence! Or, does it run with Windows mixed reality portal, which I presume replaces the horrible Oculus app? Yours confused... Luke

  4. Well worth a watch for anyone who is curious... :-)
  5. This video is well worth a watch for anyone interested in taildraggers...
  6. Well, you may need to use a little differential braking to maintain directional control but not necessarily for overall speed retardation. There are no hard and fast rules. Ultimately, you should do whatever works and keeps you on the runway! Best wishes, CFI
  7. I'd like to show my friend some flying in real time while they view through the Rift S. Is there any way of displaying an un-distorted image on my monitor that I can use to fly with, whist VR is in action? I know I could show them a recorded track but we want to do it in real time and It's tricky flying with a distorted and cropped monitor image - particularly helos!
  8. Ok, I found that space was mapped to "center VR" in the UI Layer. It works now that I've unmapped it. So, I was being very daft. Clearly too much rampant sex last night.
  9. Thanks but i think it is. Currently under F14/stick button 1 on my warthog is mapped to trigger 1st detent, as well as space bar. I expect I'm being daft but I can't see it yet!
  10. I had the same problem in the A10C - the space bar would not progress the training mission dialogue. I found that pressing my trigger button on the WH worked though. Can't get the cold start training mission for the F14 to progress at all though. Pressing space when prompted does nothing and neither does pressing any buttons on my HOTAS. In fact, I tried pressing every key on the keyboard and that didn't work either! Any suggestions? Thanks :-)
  11. I have recently upgraded my office PC and am selling a few bits. I thought I’d give you first shout. Buy together or separately. Asus Maximus Hero Viii LGA1151 (Motherboard) - £100 Intel i7 6700K 4.2GHz (will easily clock to 4.6 GHz) (CPU) - £170 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz (Memory) - £80 It all comes boxed and has seen pretty light use, as I have a separate gaming PC. However, it amounts to a very fast machine with a half decent GPU added. UK Based, so check with me about postage! luke_hall@btinternet.com
  12. Great. I'm looking at a little future proofing myself as I haven't upgraded my rig for several generations (except the GPU).
  13. dburne, How's your new rig panning out? I'm about to do something similar myself! :)
  14. Hi Larry, For use with Rift you can go to the UI Layer section of the controls configuration in the settings and map a button on your throttle or joystick to VR Zoom (or something like that). It means that your VR view will zoom in when you depress the button, and zoom out when you release it. I don't think that the traditional analogue zoom works in VR. Cheers.
  15. Is it possible to use templates for aircraft carrier configurations too? I spend ages populating the deck with static aircraft ETC but can't find a way of using it again in another mission. It takes ages each time!
  16. Wondering the same! :-)
  17. I swiped our LG OLED 55" from the lounge while my wife was out today, and I have to say that the picture was stunning. With HDR mode set on the HDMI channel, the dynamic range was epic. My i6700K + 1080ti rig ran it at 4K/60 fps on the PG map with no stutters with most sliders maxed. I just wish I could afford one for my dedicated sim set up!
  18. Awesome, thanks. Can't wait to get stuck in again :-)
  19. Are we still not able to hot rearm within missions and have the new load-out incorporated into the stores management? I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
  20. If you want to be concise, use the correct terminology! :)
  21. Yes, for visible condensation to form, the air must have a sufficiently high enough moisture content (Relative humidity RH%) to saturate with the available temperature drop caused when its pressure is lowered. The lower the RH% is, the greater the pressure drop required (and therefore temperature drop) for the air to reach its moisture saturation point. As you correctly point out, dry air such as often found in Nevada is less likely to produce the effect, and why IRL we see it more often on colder wet days where the air is less able to hold moisture before it saturates.
  22. Condensation formed on the surface of the wing at high alpha has no relationship with G-force, other than you are more likely to be pulling some G-force under flight conditions where condensation might be formed. The condensation is exclusively a function of angle of attack and the resulting low pressure areas formed on or near the surface of the wing or fuselage. If the moisture content of the air combined with local temperature are within certain parameters, the air mass will reach it's saturation point and condensation (not vapour) can form, which is what you see. This precisely the same thing which causes condensation which makes the wingtip vortices visible. You'll note that this are often visible during 1G flight regimes. It is not caused by the presence of high load factors, in much the same way that stalling has nothing to do with airspeed - another much misunderstood topic. :book: I haven't yet seen any evidence that this effect is modelled according to wider atmospherics in the sim, but then to be honest, I haven't been paying that much attention to it!
  23. I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I contacted Thrustmaster support who were pretty helpful and suggested that I buy a new main circuit board and replace it. I can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't too expensive. They sent it to me and when it arrived, it was a simple job to replace the original and it fixed the problem. I think the main board in the throttle is a bit prone to failure after some time. It's always worth unplugging the throttle when you're not using it.
  24. The AUTO PILOT warning on the DDi should extinguish itself after 10 seconds or with a subsequent actuation of the paddle switch. Neither appear to be happening in the EA right now.
  25. Nice job. You caught the VV nicely when you rolled out downwind. Just get the carrier lights turned on!
