  1. It may be, but as we're dealing with a highly complex and authentically modelled simulation, the official tutorials may at least refer to its contents correctly, both written and verbally. Particularly as the tutorials are tasked with teaching people! If it was written incorrectly, it would be pointed out immediately!
  2. While folks are helping to correct typos in the manual, it seems only right to do the same with the training missions! In the start-up tutorial, the voice over pronounces the word "aileron" [ay-ler-on] as "airelon" [ay-rer-lon]. I guess I'm being ever so slightly pedantic in mentioning it, but it's a pet irritation of mine! :smilewink: Aced only by people saying that a cockpit has "good visibility" when they actually mean "good field of view".
  3. Hi - thanks for replying. Yes, I've cleared the BIOS, reset everything several times, updated... all has made no change. The board is a couple of months old and it seems to be that replacing the same module always does the trick. I haven't found anything on the ASUS forums which has helped. I guess if it persists I'll have to send it back, but i don't want to be without it for weeks... Luke
  4. I wonder if anyone can offer some advice... You can see my specs below. I have recently started suffering from problems during boot up. Specifically, the MB does not even make it past POST before the on-board LED displays a "55" status, which according to the MB booklet means no memory installed. After much swapping of components and head scratching, I found that I can cure the problem temporarily by powering down, removing one of the 2 memory modules and immediately plugging it back in again before booting again. Then all works fine. That is, until I've powered it all down, left it over night, then the same thing happens again. All of my memory module tests have revealed no errors and the PC works fine once it's up and running. I can't imagine it's a problem caused by a dirty pin or socket because removing and replacing fixes the problem, temporarily, and why would it play up again later on? It seems like completely powering down any residual current in the module is fixing the error but I can't understand why? I'd be grateful for any thoughts :-) Luke
  5. For me, activating ASW created more problems than it addressed. Lots of choppiness, stutters, artefacts... So much so that I've disabled it for the time being. It certainly went some way to curing the ghosting effect on fast moving objects but the ghosting never really bothered me that much. Prior to ASW I got very solid performance consistently with nothing but an occasional stutter. That's with most things set high and a PD of 2.0 It's interesting to see how different people's experiences compare, though it can be quite a subjective subject. As a possible aside to that, I could see no appreciable difference when using the cntl+1, 2, 3, 4 keys, though ASW did appear to be active according to my Oculus service logs, and the evidence mentioned above.
  6. Make sure you rename the downloaded file with a .reg extension.
  7. I'd noticed the same thing. However, it is still there for me, even after the latest patch at the time of me writing this...
  8. The spectre of un-finished stuff seems to have become quite a trademark of DCS in the last few years. However, I'm not complaining, though it does concern me a little. On one hand we have the benefit of early access to these awesome modules but I can't help wondering if this in some way numbs the developer's focus when it comes to completion and bug fixing. Having said that, the incredible complexity of these products would simply make error free beta testing impossible if it weren't for the hundreds of us doing it for them, so without early access, we'd probably end up with very buggy incomplete modules anyway. It's a catch 22. I guess that allowing early access boosts the cashflows of what must be small developer companies, so I'm all for that. However, like taxes, I have no objection to paying provided my cash goes to the right places! I do hope that our early access payments aren't simply going to exclusively fund the next module before the previous one is finished. In any case, we have been treated to so much awesomeness recently, the level of our expectations has become extremely high. We are very lucky to live in such a golden age of technology advancements such that we have access to this amazing simulator in our own homes. Only a few years ago it would have seemed impossible. Perhaps we've just overdosed on incredible awesomeness, and like a drug, we need more and more to satisfy our cravings. In summary though, I'd rather we had it like it is with unfinished manuals and bugs which refuse to go away, rather than what we had a few years ago, which by comparison these days looks really quite primitive :-)
  9. Did you have to modify anything to make it work in DCS 2.0? I'm finding that when I speak "start mission" to start the mission once loaded, it tries to initialise but suspends listening because it can't the temp files it wants. On closer inspection I can see that it's running a cmd batch file which is trying to copy .miz files from my users directory which don't exist. I'd certainly like to find a way of making it work :-)
  10. Hi, I have just discovered Voice Attack (and VAICOM which I love the look of). I only really fly around Nevada at the moment. I can't see a definitive answer as to whether VAICOM works in DCS 2.0. Does it? Also, as importantly, has anyone created an F-5E profile for it, or can i easily mod an existing one? Cheers!
  11. A note about GPU/CPU utilisation Now that I'm exclusively flying with a CV1, and having read much about performance, I had a look at how my system is performing. With medium to high settings, as with most people I find that in busy areas such as KLAS, ATW is a frequent feature pegging the FPS to 45. However, unlike many other posts I've read, my GPU is being utilised to its potential, showing values of 80%-99% when things get busy. Many have reported that their GPUs in particular do not seem to be worked as much as they expect, and that they are seeing GPU load levels of around 40%-60% suggesting that FPS limitations are occurring elsewhere. In addition, my CPU is working harder in response to load, but not so surprisingly is never being maxed out on any core. As observed by others, the major settings factor appears to be view distance, though of course raising the PD has a very significant impact on performance in the CV1. With this said, I think I'll take a chance on a GTX1080 very soon with the expectation that I'll see similar performance but with a higher detail capability. How many of you have seen similar results and what are your thoughts on the merits of my pretty standard non-Ti GPU verses a top spec fast clocked 1080?
  12. Real Gazelle lift... If you look at this video, it's clear that the pilot is easily able to lift into a stable hover without the slightest hint of a skid forward. If you look closely, you can see that there is very little aft cyclic being applied - nothing like the momentary correction needed in DCS. Aside, (it's already been mentioned) the rotor is clearly turning much faster than the visual model in DCS suggests. In DCS, with the rotor RPM gauge showing 340rpm+ as it should be for flight, the external model seems to rotate at around 150rpm at a rough guess. It's a great module but Polychop do seem to have exercised a little 'poetic licence' when it comes to the flight model in particular. It makes me curious as to how the flight model is being calculated during the lift off phase and the skids interaction with the ground. Something is certainly odd about it. And another thing... Balanced turns appear to be next to impossible if you believe what the slip ball is telling you. If you fly a turn in accordance with the slip ball indications, you end up with a very under ruddered turn, slipping out of the turn direction. You can see this clearly during replays. A balanced turn seems only possible if you apply far more 'in turn' rudder than the ball suggests. [ame] [/ame]
  13. TV - big frame rate hit I've noticed that I get a very big frame rate hit with the targeting tv screen turned on. Typically, I see a drop from a steady 80+ (with vsync off) frame rate down to 40, whatever part of the map I'm flying in. My specs are: Intel i7 6700K @ 4.0Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus MB with 16gb Ram @ 3000Hz, GTX980 GPU. I usually use vsync which locks my frame rate @ 60 and it never drops below with everything maxed out. However, the TV makes it plummet. Any one else seeing this?
  14. Pilots! Controls aren't 'twitchy', birds are twitchy. The controls are 'responsive' and you need to adjust your flying style accordingly! Some of the best pilots I've trained in real Extra 300s over the years have been ex Gazelle pilots, because they have a relaxed and smooth set of hands and are able to make smooth control pressure changes without over controlling. There's no harm in taming her down with input curves to compensate for the inherent limitations of desk top joysticks. Stick with it because this is going to be one hell of a fun module
  15. Hi, I'm loving DCS 2.0 but miss the Mig29 etc from LOMAC. Is there any way I can use the aircraft from my original LOMAC, or must I also buy Flaming Cliffs? Many thanks, Luke
  16. In NTTR I've noticed that the yellow/black taxiway markings actually move in relation to the ground, depending on which direction you view them from. If you alt+F11 and wonder around, you'll see a kind of parallax effect taking place.:music_whistling:

  18. I'm confused now! What version should we be running for the Alpha? Mine currently says 2.0.1.49921 Is that after today's update or is today's newsletter referring to a newer version about to be deployed?
  19. Hi, When ever I create a mission that involves me flying around with a wingman and/or any other aircraft in my flight, I'd like them to fly in closer formation. Currently, my wingman gets into formation as instructed but he's so far away as to be barely visible. How can I get him to close right up with me. I suspect I'm missing something very obvious! Thanks! Luke
  20. I was wondering whether I should have HT enabled or disabled in my BIOS. It's currently disabled on my i7-3770K /GTX980 system. Not really understanding how the DCS architecture works, I wondered if anyone knows...? Luke
  21. At Nellis... "Wind 220@10, taxy runway 03 Same everywhere... 180 degrees out.:music_whistling:
