Hunting for the stutter-free VR experience.
Panzerlang replied to Panzerlang's topic in Virtual Reality
Before my OS reinstall I was finding Pimax' native OpenXR and Quadviews to be marginally better than the external solutions. That's all I have installed now. -
Got a Pimax Crystal Light today - the good news and the bad news...

That's illegal under UK law. The retailer is legally obligated to handle all and any warranty issues for a product they sold. I used to live in Hailsham. -

I believe that interrupt setting reduces the amount of CPU checks, not increases them. Forgot to mention...it's made no apparent difference. What DID make a visible difference was updating my NVidia drivers. My W11 reinstall had an old 550 driver auto-loaded and it produced noticeably less micro-stutter than the most current one (566-something). -
I've half watched quite a few of his videos but I've spotted the trend where he'll give the latest new freebie a good run in the sun, doing his best to keep more coming. Praises it up (whatever it is) but adds a couple of minor "nit picks" to give the veneer of the afore-mentioned credibility. He's hidden my comments from public view so he can have his tantrum but not bright enough to calculate the screenie, otherwise I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have revealed his true self with this doozie. Yep, this is the guy handing out advise to the VR public. Mark (GYGO) on the other hand, even after giving Jaap from Pimax a platform to respond, didn't stop whaling on them in his comments. He doesn't whore for freebies, which is why I regard anything he says in HIS videos as legit. Influencers have an obligation to strive for ethical standards and that should be obvious. Posting videos with 'opinions' based on badly erroneous data, especially where they can do financial harm to a company, not on. Anyway, here's Steve in his own words. Priceless!

I already did that. It seems that DCS likes to flog one (or more) cores to 100% and that's why nobody can completely eradicate the stutter. -
Yes, many of us 'cynics' are already aware of the greed-agenda motives of these so-called reviewer/influencers. Free kit and lots of monetized clicks & views, whatever product they've been given to 'review' will get the solid thumbs-up, with a couple of minor "nit picks" to give a veneer of credibility. VR Flight Sim Guy, clearly miffed that Pimax didn't send him a Super to 'test and review', so he advises people not to pre-order, citing a clearly erroneous bunch of BS about how it will HAVE to be down-sampled from native rez and how that will degrade the image (he thinks a VR panel is the same as a monitor, lol). And then tells people to wait for him to get a purchased one with his opinion before getting one themselves. I pointed that out, he called me a 'troll' and removed my ability to reply. Lol. Furiously building his echo-chamber over there.

102 FOV, other than that it would be a no-brainer for sims.

I tried OBS, Bandicam, NVidia Shadow Play and FRAPS, all produced in-game stuttering. I reinstalled my OS (W11 Pro) and after the update to 24H2 I noticed what I think is a new feature, "Game Bar". It has a video capture widget in it that as far as I've been able to see doesn't impact game performance at all. Example video here: It might be worth a shot (upgrade to W11 24H2).

PowerSettingsExplorer app is here: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/windows-power-plan-settings-explorer-utility/32886 Change the highlighted value to 5 (from 15) and see if it reduces stutter in DCS I guess. I haven't tested yet and I'm not holding my breath. -
Are You Planning on Buying Pimax Crystal Super or Crystal Light?
Panzerlang replied to jww123's topic in Virtual Reality
Since they updated the return window to two weeks and there's a $400 discount for Crystal owners I decided to give the Super a go and pre-ordered it. I'm also impressed with their native Quadviews software. I would have bought the Somnium VR1 if they sold them to Japan but they dropped the ball on that. -
The seat is rolled back against a rail and the joystick is pulled back on its floor panel into the front and bolted so it can't slide forward when the rudder-pedals are pressed.

I can't find the Latency stuff. Did the power throttling disable though (by enabling it, lol). -

So what was the "one thing"? Your post is confusing. -
Yeah, here too, that entire line was missing from my lua file. It all worked three days ago (first time it was ever fired up in DCS), three days later the green connection icon for "game" was black. I have no idea how a line in a file can simply vanish by itself. I'll see if it works next time I go on our group's MP server.

They're on it. Fingers crossed. Calvin, please check your DMs, TY.

"Lamentation" and "wish" are not "expectation".

Now I'm really baffled. New W11 app, Game Bar?
Panzerlang replied to Panzerlang's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah, I kind of figured the readout is probably not worth the code in which it's written. I'll run resource monitor in the background and see if what you say is on the money (I expect it will be). -

And here's the real head-fk...the 13900k has FIFTEEN PHYSICAL CORES, running at 5.5ghz (native, not OC'ed). DCS is multi-threaded so it has access to all of them. Meanwhile, over at IL2 Great Battles, one core and no stutters. A less demanding engine but whut? The DCS engine is fifteen times + more demanding? Or is it a component on all motherboards that simply cannot channel fifteen cores' worth of data sufficiently well enough? -
Resolution/PD question for you smart guys
Panzerlang replied to teewhite7's topic in Virtual Reality
Putting a 4090 with your 10900k would probably be a partial waste of money, that CPU would bottle-neck the GPU to some degree or other. There is a significant improvement in visuals with the Crystal vs the G2 (I had a G2) but you need a well matched CPU with a 4090 to have it run well. For you that's a financial quadruple whammy (Crystal + mobo + CPU + GPU). Not forgetting a new CPU cooler and maybe RAM (DDR4 to DDR5). -

Putting this here too, hopefully ok... I'm guessing this is a new item in W11 24H2, 'Game Bar'. The picture says most of it. Unfortunately the screenie doesn't capture the DCS FPS window but that, as always, was giving the "CPU Bound, Main Thread" message, in mostly red but sometimes yellow. Meanwhile the Game Bar window (have to alt-tab to see it) shows CPU at 37%. I'm assuming the Game Bar app is functioning correctly. On the up-side, this Game Bar has a video capture function and I could see no sign of it sucking resources that impacted visibly on the game. It records from the VR one-eye monitor output though, so the resolution isn't great. Other great news, the Mig21s that used to stutter past me while taxying are now almost totally stutter free. I think the fresh W11 install has fixed a lot of issues. But back to the main issue and what is my dumbass missing here? CPU at only 37% while the game is running (not paused) but DCS says "CPU Bound"? Eh? Whut?! -

Yeah, good point. Why should any fully-owned piece of hardware require an online login?! Imagine if that was needed for the CPU or GPU etc. Fix it Pimax, this kind of intrusive meddling is unacceptable. You have absolutely zero right to require an owner of your hardware to have to be logged into your server in order to use his fully-purchased hardware. We don't need 'social credits' either.

Uum...did you guys try to actually use the headset? I get the server message but the headset works.
